Chapter 252: Chapter 160: Shen Yuan Must Die
After spending some quality time with the kittens, Li Zhi headed home.
She had an evening self-study session later, so the pretty girl needed to go back for a nap to recharge.
Shen Yuan walked Li Zhi home and, while he was at it, brought his own schoolbag back.
Yes, getting his schoolbag was just an afterthought.
"See you tonight, then."
Shen Yuan said with a smile, standing at Li Zhi’s door.
However, Li Zhi just rolled her eyes at him and retorted bluntly, "Then don’t let me see you this evening, or I’ll kill you."
Although her words carried a slight threat, they held no real malice. Instead, it felt more like a playful, intimate joke.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, that won’t do." Shen Yuan waved his hands hastily, explaining with a sheepish laugh, "My mistake. I meant see you after dinner."
Li Zhi’s attitude didn’t soften at his explanation. She continued, "Hmph! Idiot! Now go finish half a test paper of homework, and then do half a chemistry test paper. That’s your task for this afternoon! I’m checking it during the evening study session."
With that, she turned to close the door.
Just as the door was about to shut, Shen Yuan, quick as a flash, shot out a hand and pressed it against the door, holding it open.
Startled by the sudden move, Li Zhi looked at Shen Yuan with a questioning gaze.
Shen Yuan took a deep breath to compose himself, then said to Li Zhi, "If I finish a whole chemistry test paper, is there any reward?"
His voice held a hint of anticipation.
The corner of Li Zhi’s mouth curved up into a sweet smile.
She said slowly, "Your reward will be doing another one during the evening study session."
Shen Yuan couldn’t smile anymore.
After Li Zhi closed the door, Shen Yuan returned home.
The moment he entered his room, Shen Yuan picked up Naonao.
"Naonao! What was your mommy just doing in my room?"
The kitten, deaf to his pleas, stared back with wide eyes, its ears flattened in alarm.
Seeing this, Shen Yuan shook his head and put Naonao down.
As for the other cat, San Geng, it had already scurried away warily the moment it saw Shen Yuan pick up Naonao.
Looking at his two little traitors, Shen Yuan snorted. "Go on, take your mommy’s side. All my hard work scooping your poop can’t compare to your mommy coming over to play for one afternoon, huh?"
With that, Shen Yuan went back to his study to start his homework.
It was nearly 1:00 PM when Li Zhi went back for her nap. By the time Shen Yuan finally ground his way through the tasks she had assigned, it was already 4:00 PM.
’I can rest a bit, have dinner, and then head to school.’
After packing his schoolbag, Shen Yuan took out his phone.
’I haven’t checked QQ in the last couple of days. I wonder if that He Zhiyu fellow has posted any updates.’
Opening his feed, the first thing Shen Yuan saw was a post from Ah Jie.
—Man is born free, yet is everywhere trapped in a chat box, left on read.
’This idiot is getting all angsty again.’
Don’t be fooled by how Ah Jie was usually a cheerful goofball; on his QQ feed, he was a total melodramatic art kid.
It was probably a case of "the me online isn’t the real me."
But Shen Yuan was different.
He went online to be the emperor.
’Angsty crap? It could get the hell away from him!’
Shen Yuan quickly commented on Ah Jie’s post:
—Delete this. It’s my turn to post it.
After commenting on Ah Jie’s post, Shen Yuan scrolled down and saw a post from He Zhiyu.
The author, possibly trying to hide his identity as the writer of "Defend and Steal," had specifically posted on his QQ feed about beating a small game during the long break.
Shen Yuan chuckled, liked the post, and commented: With all that time, I’ve already caught up with "Defend and Steal."
Scrolling further down, Shen Yuan found a post from the campus confession page.
The first post was a lost-and-found notice for a meal card, which, in a way, could be considered a type of confession, he supposed.
The second post was an actual confession.
—To the senior I saw at the sports meet, does anyone know what class she’s in?
When Shen Yuan saw the picture attached to the post, his eyes widened.
Because the senior in the photo was none other than Li Zhi!
In the photo, Li Zhi was sitting in the Class 15 rest area, reading a book.
The beautiful girl sat upright on the chair, her spine as straight as a slender bamboo shoot. Her knees were pressed together, supporting an open book, while her long, jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulders, a few strands dancing in the gentle breeze.
The light in the photo softly illuminated her profile. Her lowered lashes cast delicate shadows on her eyelids, her slender fingers gently pinched the corner of a page, and her lips were slightly pursed in concentration.
The noisy surroundings seemed to be separated by an invisible barrier. Only the ends of her hair fluttered when she turned a page, the contrast between the lively movement and her serene posture creating a powerfully artistic image.
Looking at the photo, Shen Yuan could tell that this was no mere candid shot.
’Wait, was whether or not it was a candid shot the fucking point here?!’
Shen Yuan quickly took a screenshot and found Zhuo Peipei on QQ.
Shen Yuan: [Image]
Shen Yuan: You’re dead!!
Zhuo Peipei replied quickly.
Zhuo Peipei: ?
Zhuo Peipei: I run the campus confession page. You think I can fucking refuse to post something like this?
Shen Yuan: You’d post it even when it’s about a childhood friend?
Zhuo Peipei: ? Did you and Li Zhi make it official?
Seeing Zhuo Peipei’s message, Shen Yuan was rendered utterly speechless.
But soon, Zhuo Peipei sent another message.
Zhuo Peipei: Get a grip, Lao Yuan! The first-years are pretty aggressive, you know? And you know perfectly well how gorgeous Lychee is, don’t you?
Shen Yuan: Lychee?
Zhuo Peipei: Oh, it’s the nickname we gave Li Zhi. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Shen Yuan blinked and typed back a reply: "It’s pretty sweet."
