Chapter 235: Chapter 154: Heart-Stirring Poison
Shen Yuan could guarantee this was the most grateful he’d been to Old Li all month.
’Thank you, Old Li. When the time comes, I’ll let our kid take Li Zhi’s last name.’
’I wouldn’t mind marrying into her family.’
The sports meet was still underway. Li Zhi sat in the stands, feeling a little conflicted.
’So I couldn’t get out of it after all.’
Li Zhi had even come up with a plan to put Shen Yuan off.
’At most, I’d just let him see the clothes.’
But then, a single phone call from Old Li had completely derailed all her plans.
"Seriously..."
Li Zhi pressed a hand to her forehead and sighed.
’Xishi Tofu...’
To be honest, when Li Zhi first heard Shen Yuan’s request, she was a little resistant.
How should I put it...
Xishi Tofu is an essential banquet dish in Jiyang, and it’s a common staple when people from Jiyang host guests.
Especially when hosting important guests, you’ll almost always find a bowl of Xishi Tofu on the table.
However, the dish held another, more special meaning for Li Zhi.
It was the first dish Li Zhi had ever learned to cook, and besides Old Li and her mom, no one had ever eaten the Xishi Tofu she made.
As mentioned before, every family has a different way of making Xishi Tofu.
And as for Shen Yuan wanting to eat Xishi Tofu, Li Zhi had actually guessed his true intentions the moment she heard the request.
’It’s not like it’s hard to guess what’s on that moron Shen Yuan’s mind.’
Just as Li Zhi’s mind began to wander, Shen Yuan plopped down right beside her.
"Li Bao, what are you thinking about?" Shen Yuan’s voice suddenly echoed in her ear, breaking her out of her reverie.
Li Zhi turned, annoyed, and rolled her eyes at him before snapping, "I’m thinking about how to poison you tonight."
However, Shen Yuan seemed completely oblivious to her displeasure, still grinning as he said, "What kind of poison? The poison of lovesickness?"
"Get lost!"
Li Zhi really didn’t feel like talking to Shen Yuan anymore.
Seeing her pouty, tsundere-like expression, Shen Yuan wasn’t angry in the slightest. Instead, he chuckled and asked nonchalantly, "Is there any food at home?"
Hearing this, Li Zhi paused. She racked her brain for a moment before answering uncertainly, "I think... we’re out..."
"Then should we stop by the supermarket on our way home after school?" Shen Yuan immediately suggested.
Li Zhi sighed in resignation. ’I guess there’s no other way,’ she thought, nodding in agreement. "That’s the only option, then."
Hearing Li Zhi’s reply, a brilliant smile immediately spread across Shen Yuan’s face, as radiant as a flower blooming in spring and just as pleasant to see.
"What are you smiling at?" Seeing his smile, Li Zhi’s irritation flared up again, and she angrily smacked him on the back.
It was not a light slap. It made Shen Yuan squirm on the spot, letting out an "Oof!"
Seeing Shen Yuan’s pained expression, Li Zhi’s mood instantly improved.
"Hmph! Serves you right for making me mad."
"What did I say? All I said was that we’re out of food and should go to the supermarket! Was that wrong too?" Shen Yuan protested his innocence.
"I didn’t like your smile."
Shen Yuan: ?
"Young Master Li, you’re being a bit of a tyrant."
Li Zhi snorted. "Anyway, you’re paying for the groceries and everything."
Shen Yuan nodded eagerly. "No problem."
’Of course he had to pay!’
’How much could the ingredients for Xishi Tofu possibly cost?’
Shen Yuan wasn’t worried in the slightest.
Tofu, wood ear mushrooms, minced meat, diced bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, cornstarch... Li Zhi’s place would definitely have all the other seasonings.
’The supermarket trip was probably more about stocking up on snacks for the pretty girl, anyway.’
...
"Li Bao! You want some snacks?"
Shen Yuan pushed the shopping cart, following leisurely behind Li Zhi as his gaze roamed over the snacks lining the supermarket shelves.
"Grab whatever you want. Just ask yourself if one bowl of tofu is going to be enough to fill you up," Li Zhi said without turning around, a hint of teasing in her voice.
"OK!" Shen Yuan answered cheerfully. The word was barely out of his mouth when Li Zhi heard a RUSTLE of snack packages being grabbed behind her.
She turned around curiously, only to see Shen Yuan standing before the shelf with several bags of snacks in his hands and a satisfied grin on his face.
"Is this enough?" Shen Yuan asked, chuckling as he caught her gaze, clearly quite pleased with his "haul."
Li Zhi glanced down at the cart and saw it was already piled high with potato chips of all different flavors and other assorted junk food.
"Did you really need to grab one of every single flavor?"
Though she said that, she didn’t tell him to put any of it back. "Let’s get some other things, too. I’m craving some spicy snack strips."
Shen Yuan nodded quickly, then, as if suddenly remembering something important, he asked, "Oh, right. Do we have any drinks at home?"
Li Zhi shook her head, the corners of her lips twitching into a grin. "Nope. But if you’re offering, you can fill my fridge for me."
Shen Yuan rolled his eyes at that and grumbled, "I can’t carry all that."
’Was she kidding? Li Zhi’s fridge was huge! Even just filling the top two shelves would take at least three cases of canned drinks.’
’Lugging all that from the supermarket to her place would be exhausting.’
’It’d be too awkward to carry.’
"Tch. Wimp."
Not to be outdone, Shen Yuan immediately retorted, "Heh, if you’ve got the guts, then let me shower at your place. As long as you agree to that, I’ll go lug all of it right now!"
’If Li Zhi actually dared to agree, he would immediately call a cab and go home without a second thought.’
’Even though it was only a five-minute walk from the supermarket to her apartment.’
Obviously, there was no way Li Zhi was going to agree to Shen Yuan’s proposal.
