Chapter 209: Chapter 145: 99.99% Pure Childhood Sweethearts

"Here! This is the milk tea for day four."

After lunch, Shen Yuan brought a cup of milk tea for his Eldest Female Cousin as usual.

Yang Yishui happily accepted the milk tea, a smile touching her lips. She looked at Shen Yuan cheerfully and asked, "We’re back to a normal class schedule tomorrow. Any thoughts?"

Shen Yuan shook his head. "Thoughts? What thoughts? It’s Thursday. Venmo me 50 so I can get KFC tonight."

The moment she heard that, Yang Yishui frowned. She snapped, "KFC every day? You want me to tell your mom?! How many times have you taken Li Zhi to KFC in the last few days?"

Shen Yuan quickly explained, "Hey, it hasn’t been that many times! Just three. Besides, we didn’t eat that much. We just went for ice cream, that’s all."

Yang Yishui rolled her eyes at him. "It’s only been four days since the 4th, and you’ve already had ice cream three times. Now you want to go again today? Isn’t that pretty much every single day?"

Shen Yuan grew a little sheepish. He rubbed his nose and mumbled, "Well, you could take me somewhere else then..."

Shen Yuan had only said it offhandedly, never expecting Yang Yishui to actually agree.

"I’ll take you guys for hot pot tonight."

At that, Shen Yuan grabbed Yang Yishui’s hand, his big, innocent eyes wide as he asked, "For real? My dearest sis?"

Yang Yishui nodded. "Come find me after school, and we’ll go together."

"You got it!"

Shen Yuan immediately scampered gleefully back to his classroom.

"What’s got you so happy?" Li Zhi asked, a little puzzled by his cheerful demeanor.

Hearing Li Zhi’s question, Shen Yuan leaned over to the pretty girl’s desk to share the good news.

"Sister Shui said she’s taking us for hot pot for dinner."

Li Zhi blinked, a flicker of pleasant surprise in her eyes.

But her surprise quickly turned to puzzlement. She looked at Shen Yuan, confused. "Why would Sister Shui take us out for hot pot all of a sudden?"

"I hit her up for 50, and she complained that I take you to KFC too often. Then she offered to take us for hot pot instead."

Shen Yuan shrugged. "Who cares why? We’re getting free food."

"Fair enough."

The last class on the afternoon of the 7th was Old Zhou’s. He had taken over their study hall period.

Right before the end of class, Old Zhou put down his lesson plan and brought up another matter.

"Just a heads-up. You should all know this already, but I’m going to go over it again so no one forgets."

"Starting tomorrow, the schedule is changing. The school gates will open at 6 a.m., so day students, don’t come too early. Morning self-study is moved to 7 a.m., so boarding students, remember to eat breakfast before coming to class. The long break between classes will now be for morning exercises, and the Student Affairs Office will conduct unannounced checks for anyone skipping."

As Old Zhou spoke, he looked out at the students. "If you’re not feeling well and can’t participate in the run, remember to get an excuse note from me. If the Student Affairs Office catches you and our class loses points, don’t come crying to me."

"The school gates will be locked at 1 p.m., so don’t forget. Evening self-study is unchanged. Oh, and you’re still getting your half-day off this Sunday afternoon."

Hearing Old Zhou’s words, Shen Yuan’s eyes brightened. ’I guess that counts as good news,’ he thought.

After all, after the National Day holiday, they had school straight from the 8th until after the monthly exams finished on the 17th.

For the first- and second-years, that was a ten-day stretch, but for the third-years, it was nearly two weeks.

Without some time to catch their breath in between, the pressure would be a bit too much.

When the pressure built, anything could happen.

A few fledgling romances would be a mild concern; a student on the rooftop, however, would be a catastrophe.

’It’s just half a day, after all,’ he mused. ’It won’t set us back much.’

As soon as school let out, his Eldest Female Cousin left with Shen Yuan and Li Zhi.

It wasn’t until they were in the car that Shen Yuan realized something. "Sis, we only have a little over an hour, right? Is that enough time to eat?"

Yang Yishui nodded. "Don’t worry, I already had Yang Liu get everything set up for us. When you two are about finished eating, I’ll call a car for you."

Shen Yuan’s mouth twitched. From what his Eldest Female Cousin was saying, it sounded like she had no intention of driving them back.

This wasn’t the first time his Eldest Female Cousin had screwed him over.

But when it came to being screwed over in exchange for a hot pot meal, Shen Yuan had to admit he was a willing victim.

The drive to the hot pot restaurant was quick, less than ten minutes.

As Yang Yishui and Li Zhi walked into the restaurant, Shen Yuan noticed the eyes of at least six or seven people land on them.

The two of them had completely different auras.

His Eldest Female Cousin exuded the poised and intellectual confidence of a young teacher, while Li Zhi, beside her in a school uniform, was overflowing with youthful vibrance.

It was only natural that a pair like them would turn heads when they entered the restaurant.

Among the onlookers were even a few young couples.

All Shen Yuan could think was, ’You can’t hide the look in your eyes when you like one person. But when you like two? You’d better learn to hide that real quick!’

"Shuishui! Over here!"

They hadn’t been in the hot pot restaurant for long before Shen Yuan saw someone wave Yang Yishui over.

Yang Liu. She was Yang Yishui’s older paternal cousin, which made her distantly related to Shen Yuan as well, he guessed.

Actually, Shen Yuan had met Yang Liu quite a few times.

The restaurant was owned by this cousin’s husband. The food was delicious, so his Eldest Female Cousin was a frequent customer.

Which meant, naturally, that Shen Yuan had tagged along for a free meal more than a few times himself.

While his Eldest Female Cousin was catching up with her cousin, Shen Yuan took Li Zhi to the sauce station.

"How do you like your sauce?"

"A little on the spicy side, and not too much sesame paste," Li Zhi said.

Shen Yuan nodded. "I’ll make a bowl for you then. You can add anything else you want to it yourself."

Li Zhi gave a soft hum of agreement.

Their tastes were pretty similar. Generally, whatever Shen Yuan liked, Li Zhi did too.

Shen Yuan prepared three bowls of sauce.
