Chapter 199: Chapter 141: My Relationship with Li Zhi Has Many Kinds, Part 3
"But there’s always someone better than you, a sky beyond the sky! I, Zhou Shaojie, can confidently say my math scores are in the top ten in all of Huaiji, but I can’t even make it out of the province."
With that, Ah Jie gestured to the side. "If you don’t believe me, ask Li Zhi. I remember she also did the Math Olympiad training for a while in her sophomore year."
Hearing this, Shen Yuan looked at Li Zhi curiously. "Really?"
Shen Yuan genuinely knew nothing about this.
Li Zhi nodded. "It was during my sophomore year. I only joined for a bit, but I couldn’t even compete at the city level."
"In all of Huaiji, that is," Li Zhi added.
Shen Yuan didn’t say anything.
In truth, forget about all of Huaiji.
Even in Jiyang—heck, even right here at Jiyang Middle School—there were students better at math than Li Zhi.
As for Shen Yuan himself, the less said, the better.
He couldn’t compete his way out of Jiyang Middle School, let alone out of Class 15.
Shen Yuan shook his head. "I’m done thinking about it. Let’s get back to studying. For mere mortals like us, all we have is the college entrance exam!"
With that, Shen Yuan turned back to Ah Jie. "Come on, walk me through another problem."
"Bro, why the hell can’t you just ask your childhood sweetheart!"
Shen Yuan shook his head. "I’d feel bad tiring her out."
Hearing this, Ah Jie’s mouth fell open.
’A clean kill wasn’t enough; he had to go for the heart.’
During the last period of evening self-study, Old Zhou ambled into the classroom.
"Keep studying, just lend me your ears."
"I don’t know if any of you listened to me and actually studied over the break, but the break’s over. I’ll skip the lecture. To put it simply: get your mind back on your schoolwork."
"This month’s exam is being pushed back a week to the 16th. But that’s not the important part."
As soon as Old Zhou said this, he saw a few students raise their heads, their eyes gleaming with hope for the sports meet.
But before that hope could even fully blossom, Old Zhou cut them off.
"It’s not the sports meet. The sports meet hasn’t been scheduled yet."
Hearing this, a collective sigh rippled through the class.
After the National Day holiday, what else did the seniors have to look forward to this semester?
The sports meet, a long weekend, New Year’s Day, and the short winter break.
Old Zhou continued, "This time, the midterms will be a joint city-wide exam. All the high schools in the city will use the same test. The city will release rankings afterward, so you’ll be able to see how you stack up against everyone else in Jiyang."
Then, as if he’d just remembered something, Old Zhou added, "Oh, right. This exam will be structured similarly to the college entrance exam, so I expect you all to take it seriously."
The moment he finished speaking, Old Zhou turned and left the classroom without a backward glance, leaving a room full of students staring at each other, momentarily stunned and unsure what to do.
After a long moment of silence, someone in the classroom suddenly cried out.
"Holy shit!"
A student complained resentfully, "Damn it, the 16th is a Saturday! What about our Sunday off?"
"We’ll be testing for two days, Saturday and Sunday. We probably just won’t have evening self-study on Sunday. What more do you want?" another student explained with a sigh.
"But wait, what about us boarders?" a student who lived in the dorms complained.
Someone guessed, "Maybe they’ll cut some of the evening study sessions, or they might show you guys a movie."
"Hell yeah! You think one movie is all it takes to win me over? In that case, I want to see *Interstellar*!" a student shouted excitedly.
"Seconded! I wanna watch it too. And it’s definitely not for Anne Hathaway. I’m just a pure admirer of Nolan’s work!"
"Well, I appreciate Anne Hathaway, so I propose we watch *Love & Other Drugs*."
"Is that what you call ’appreciating’?"
Listening to this banter, Li Zhi couldn’t help but look at Shen Yuan curiously.
"Is that movie any good?"
Li Zhi had seen *Interstellar*—with Shen Yuan, no less—but she’d never seen *Love & Other Drugs*.
Shen Yuan pursed his lips, trying to figure out how to explain it to the sweet girl.
After a moment, Shen Yuan said, "Some of the scenes are... pretty revealing."
Hearing this, Li Zhi’s face immediately twisted into an expression of disgust.
"I just knew a Selaan like you would’ve seen it."
Shen Yuan: ?
’Well, damn. So this was a setup? She was hunting him this whole time?’
