Chapter 135: Chapter 116: You Were Just Sleep-Talking About Wanting to Eat Candy
Shen Yuan glanced at He Zhiyu and Zhuo Peipei in the front row, who were still buzzing with excitement.
’I really don’t get what those two shippers are thinking. It’s just a piece of candy.’
’What’s there to be so excited about?’
’Sure, Li Zhi put it in my mouth herself, but it’s not like I haven’t fed her before.’
’Tsk, I even fed her shrimp yesterday! And she was the one who leaned in to eat it!’
’Good thing you two didn’t see that. If you had, you’d probably have fainted from excitement, wouldn’t you?’
Shen Yuan snorted. A head then popped up from behind him.
"Young Master Li, I want some too." Ah Jie’s eyes were glued to the milk candy in Li Zhi’s hand. There wasn’t a hint of yearning for a sweet ship moment in his gaze, only a desperate craving for the candy itself.
Seeing this, Shen Yuan quickly fished a milk candy out of his desk. He handed it to Ah Jie like a generous father, muttering, "Here, here, take it. Take this candy from your dear old dad."
But Ah Jie completely ignored the candy Shen Yuan offered. His gaze remained locked on the one in Li Zhi’s hand as he said disdainfully, "I’ve had that kind of candy before. It’s no good. I want the one from Young Master Li."
"Hey! You brat! So you’ll call anyone with candy ’dad,’ huh? If you don’t take this candy from your dad now, you’ll be getting a slap from your dad later."
Ah Jie squirmed, a cheeky grin on his face, and kept muttering, "Don’t want it, don’t want it."
Watching the two of them fool around, the corners of Li Zhi’s mouth lifted into a faint smile.
Then, the beautiful girl reached out, took the milk candy from Shen Yuan’s hand, and gently offered it to Ah Jie.
Shen Yuan watched her delicate, fair arm, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
The sweet taste of the milk candy in his mouth slid down his throat.
"Thanks, Young Master Li."
As Ah Jie took the candy, he shot Shen Yuan a wink. He unwrapped it, tossed it into his mouth, and his cheek immediately bulged in a happy curve.
’Fam, another successful score.’
Meanwhile, He Zhiyu and Zhuo Peipei paid no attention to Ah Jie’s antics at all.
From Ah Jie’s position, he couldn’t have actually seen what happened between Shen Yuan and Li Zhi.
’The dumbass kid just wanted some candy, what’s there to even say?’
The milk candy gradually melted, disappearing completely before the lunch break even started.
But the sweet flavor of the candy seemed to linger in his heart.
Shen Yuan smacked his lips, fished another milk candy out of his desk, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth.
’This sugary feeling is really nice.’
Shen Yuan figured he was starting to like eating candy.
’After all, the latest round of review sessions has started. My brain is working overtime, so I definitely need some sugar to refuel.’
"Just tossing some trash."
Shen Yuan casually tossed the wrapper into the small trash bag hanging from the side of Li Zhi’s desk.
Li Zhi didn’t say anything.
The beautiful girl was already asleep.
Li Zhi always took a nap for about half an hour during the lunch break.
Whether she slept during the first or second half of the break depended on whenever she felt tired that day.
Usually, Li Zhi slept during the first half.
Today, however, she was sleeping during the second half, likely because the events at noon had left the beautiful girl a little flustered.
Which made it hard for her to fall asleep during the first half.
The beautiful girl rested her cheek on her folded arms. A few strands of dark hair tumbled past her ear and onto the edge of her desk. Her pale pink lips were unconsciously pursed, giving her a docile look in her sleep that was completely different from her usual demeanor.
Shen Yuan propped his chin on his hand, his gaze sliding from the line of Li Zhi’s shoulder to her faintly trembling eyelashes.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed. The sweetness of the still-unmelted candy between his teeth suddenly felt richer, more intense.
Shen Yuan licked his lips, as if he could still feel the lingering warmth of Li Zhi’s fingertips.
The bell signaling the end of the lunch break shattered the classroom’s silence. Li Zhi’s folded arms stirred. Her lashes fluttered open, revealing hazy, sleep-clouded eyes.
The beautiful girl instinctively buried her face deeper into her arms. A few strands of hair slid down to the tip of her nose, swaying gently with each breath.
"Good afternoon."
Leaning on his chin, Shen Yuan turned to the side, his fingers idly spinning an unopened milk candy.
His voice was deliberately low and lazy, but his gaze traced a path from Li Zhi’s sleep-flushed cheeks to the tips of her slightly mussed hair.
"Ngh..."
Li Zhi slowly propped herself up, looking toward the source of the voice with her eyelids still half-closed.
The beautiful girl’s pale pink lips parted slightly. Her muffled, nasal voice was thick with lingering sleepiness. "Mmm... good afternoon."
The words had barely left her mouth when Li Zhi’s gaze fell and landed on her trash bag.
"Just how much candy did you eat?"
Shen Yuan chuckled. "Three or four pieces."
"You’ll get cavities."
A low laugh rumbled in Shen Yuan’s throat. He placed the milk candy on her desk with a soft THUD. "Want to replenish your sugar levels? You were just sleep-talking about wanting candy."
Her response was a suddenly sharp glare.
"You’re the one who sleep-talks! You’re always muttering in your sleep."
"If I was, I must have been reciting physics formulas."
Li Zhi shook her head. "No. You were barking like a dog."
The corner of Shen Yuan’s mouth twitched. He suddenly lost the desire to continue this conversation.
Just then, however, Shen Yuan saw Li Zhi’s hand land on the candy.
The beautiful girl unwrapped it and popped the candy into her mouth.
"Thanks."
Shen Yuan chuckled.
Afternoon classes proceeded as usual.
The weekly test papers were reviewed quickly, as they covered recently studied material. If students didn’t understand something, they could either find a teacher after class or ask a classmate.
Before they knew it, it was the last self-study period of the afternoon.
No teacher commandeered today’s study hall, so the miserable third-year students could "happily" do their homework.
The current homework load, nearly half a test paper per subject, was honestly a bit much.
Waking up every day to half a test’s worth of homework for six different subjects was enough to make anyone depressed just thinking about it.
It was at times like these that Ah Jie’s purpose became clear.
Without the entertainment Ah Jie provided, the study atmosphere in Class 15 wouldn’t be nearly as good.
"Anything you want for dinner?" Shen Yuan asked, leaning closer to Li Zhi.
Young Master Li answered without a shred of hesitation. "Meat."
A typical carnivore.
"Want a chicken cutlet?" Shen Yuan suddenly asked. His voice wasn’t too loud or too quiet, just audible enough for Li Zhi beside him.
Li Zhi heard him and nodded without the slightest hesitation. "Get one for me."
Shen Yuan’s brow furrowed slightly. "So I take it you’re not planning on going out?"
"Yup!"
The corners of Li Zhi’s mouth curved up into a sweet smile as she pressed her palms together in front of Shen Yuan. "Pleeeease."
Seeing her act like this, Shen Yuan sighed helplessly. He took a deep breath and turned to look at Ah Jie across the aisle.
Shen Yuan suddenly lifted his foot and kicked out in Ah Jie’s direction.
Since Shen Yuan had long legs, he only needed to lift himself slightly off his stool to kick Ah Jie’s.
"Whoa! What the hell are you doing?"
Caught completely off guard, Ah Jie was so startled by the sudden kick that he nearly fell off his stool.
However, he quickly remembered they were in study hall and immediately lowered his voice, glaring at Shen Yuan angrily.
"Jie! I want a chicken cutlet!" Shen Yuan declared, feeling completely justified and not the least bit apologetic.
Ah Jie rolled his eyes. "If you want one, then go get one yourself! What are you calling me for? It’s not like I can fry one up for you!"
"Get two for us. I don’t feel like moving. How about this, I’ll pay you an errand fee of one bottle of Coke."
As he spoke, Shen Yuan brandished his phone, the screen showing that he had already sent Ah Jie a red envelope.
Seeing the red envelope in the chat window, Ah Jie’s dissatisfaction vanished instantly, replaced by a fawning grin.
"You got it! Just wait here, boss!"
With that, Ah Jie went to find Yang Ze.
"Ze, you want a chicken cutlet for dinner?"
Yang Ze turned around. "Yeah. Since you’re already getting one for Shen Yuan, you might as well grab one for me too."
Ah Jie rolled his eyes. "He paid an errand fee."
"Alright, then I don’t want one," Yang Ze said, starting to turn back around.
Ah Jie quickly grabbed him. "Bro, come with me. I’m scared to go alone."
"It’s right at the damn school gate, it’s a two-minute walk! What the hell is there to be scared of?!"
Ah Jie lowered his head shyly. "I have social anxiety, you know."
Yang Ze rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine, fine. We’ll go together later."
With that, Yang Ze went to find Chen Mingyu.
"Ai Muyu, want a chicken cutlet?"
Chen Mingyu looked at Yang Ze and Ah Jie like they were a pair of idiots.
’It’s just a damn chicken cutlet. Do they really need to create a whole chain reaction for it?’
’If you dumbass high school boys are that bored, you can go do some Huanggang Papers.’
