Chapter 129: Chapter 112: Be a Little Quieter, He’s Sleeping (3)
But now, Ji Ningning had changed her mind.
Ji Ningning suddenly realized just how shallow her previous view had been.
Something was definitely, definitely, *definitely* off about those two!
Ji Ningning suppressed her shock and started to tidy up her desk.
Even so, her mind was completely preoccupied with Shen Yuan and Li Zhi.
Ah Jie burst into the classroom, his boisterous voice heralding his arrival. "Yuan!" he bellowed in Shen Yuan’s direction. "Your dearest fath—"
Before he could finish, a sudden chill ran down the back of his neck, as if pierced by an invisible icicle.
He looked up and his gaze met Li Zhi’s.
Young Master Li’s previously lowered lashes were now raised, and his pitch-black eyes, cold as tempered ice, were fixed on him.
It was a sweltering day in mid-September, yet Ah Jie felt a chill run through his entire body.
Under Young Master Li’s severe gaze, the end of Ah Jie’s sentence caught in his throat, and the hand he had raised to slap Shen Yuan’s shoulder froze mid-air.
He saw that Li Zhi’s left hand was still on her test paper, but her right index finger was now pressed silently against her lips. The morning light filtering through the window converged on her fingertip, creating a sharp, silver line.
Shen Yuan, sprawled on his desk, was completely oblivious. Wisps of his hair rose and fell with his steady breathing, and a greasy smudge from an egg pancake still clung to the corner of his mouth.
Ah Jie gulped, then tiptoed over to his seat, even breaking down the simple act of pulling out his chair into three excruciatingly careful movements.
By the time his rear end finally made contact with the chair, Li Zhi had already lowered her gaze.
Feeling that piercing gaze lift, Ah Jie slowly let out a sigh of relief.
Ah Jie may have been relieved, but Zhuo Peipei, the head of the Kissing Association who had just entered the classroom, practically short-circuited when she saw the scene.
He Zhiyu was in even worse shape. The young author had been watching events unfold ever since she sensed something was up, and her knuckles were white from how tightly she was gripping her gel pen.
There was no interaction between Li Zhi and Shen Yuan at that moment, but even so, when Li Zhi’s warning glance at Zhou Shaojie reached He Zhiyu’s eyes, it instantly melted into a tenderness she had never managed to write in *Defend and Steal*.
SNAP. The tip of her pen poked through the scratch paper as a scorching thrill shot up her spine.
’This is a hundred times more thrilling than any fictional Sugar Text!’
He Zhiyu’s and Zhuo Peipei’s gazes collided abruptly across the aisle.
Zhuo Peipei was strangling her backpack strap, her eyes shining with a terrifying light from behind her glasses. He Zhiyu’s lower lip was bitten white. In that instant, they both read the tsunami of internal screaming in each other’s eyes.
’The tension of a real-life ship really can leave you breathless!’
He Zhiyu stared at the greasy smudge on the corner of Shen Yuan’s mouth. ’Fuck, that’s not grease, that’s frosting!!’
He Zhiyu decided then and there. ’Fuck it, I’m going home today and rewriting everything!!’
’What the hell was that crap I wrote before?!’
’Fuck!’
Li Zhi suddenly noticed the strange, abrupt silence that had fallen over her surroundings. Her eyelashes fluttered, but she didn’t let her gaze sweep around wildly.
She didn’t know why everyone had gone quiet, but she knew exactly what she had to do.
’Play it cool, I have to play it cool!’
’I absolutely cannot let them find out that I’ve noticed them!’
’Otherwise, that whole Kissing Association crew will celebrate today like it’s a national holiday.’
What Li Zhi didn’t notice, however, was that her nervousness had caused her to spin her pen much faster than usual.
Unfortunately for her, this subtle motion was not enough to draw the attention of Zhuo Peipei and He Zhiyu.
While everyone was lost in their own thoughts, Shen Yuan, the center of all this attention, suddenly stirred.
The slightest twitch drew every eye.
The moment Shen Yuan moved, all eyes snapped back to him.
However, he only shifted his head.
He also smacked his lips, licking away the frosting—oh, no, the greasy smudge—from the corner of his mouth.
For a moment, a single thought echoed in everyone’s minds.
’You dumbass, Shen Yuan!’
As for Ah Jie, that wasn’t what he was thinking.
He was filled with resentment.
In the end, Shen Yuan didn’t manage to sleep all the way until the morning self-study session began.
As the classroom filled up, Li Zhi couldn’t very well give a warning to every single person who came in.
"Yaaawn—"
Shen Yuan gave a long, satisfying stretch.
After shaking the sleep from his head, Shen Yuan lazily propped himself up and let his gaze fall on Li Zhi’s face.
The morning light slanted across Li Zhi’s lowered lashes, casting a shimmering, golden-leaf pattern on the porcelain-white curve of her cheek.
The beautiful girl’s skin seemed translucent in the sunlight, reminding him of lychee jellies specially frozen in the freezer during summer.
"’Morning, Young Master Li.’"
Hearing Shen Yuan’s lazy tone, Li Zhi shot him an exasperated look.
"’Sleep, sleep, sleep. You don’t rest properly at night, so you have to catch up in the morning. How much study time are you wasting?’"
Shen Yuan just grinned sheepishly. "’I’ll make it up, I’ll make it up right now! I’ll start studying this instant.’"
With that, Shen Yuan immediately pulled out his language arts textbook.
Today’s morning reading session was for language arts; he couldn’t slack off.
