Chapter 234: Chapter 157: Xie Luohe
"Save who?"
"Do you know that woman?"
Chu Chengfeng shook his head. "I don’t."
"Then how do you know she doesn’t need saving?"
"That’s called having a keen eye. If you spend a year or so wandering the Jianghu, you’ll get the gist of it. I’ve never been wrong about this kind of thing. That woman is far too fearless."
"If even you can see it, why can’t they?"
"Hey! What do you mean, ’even I can see it’!?" Chu Chengfeng was amused by Zheng Xiu’s words. "I am ranked on the Weapon Manual at number—"
Zheng Xiu deadpanned, "Thirty-eight."
"Good that you know."
Seeing that Chu Chengfeng had no intention of interfering, Pei the Second paid him no further mind.
At that moment, Pei the Second sneered, drew a curved saber from his waist with his right hand, and slammed his left palm on the table in front of Feng Bei.
"Xie! That shipment your Yunhe Village hijacked the other day—don’t you know that road is Black Wind Stronghold’s territory?!"
"Oh, I know."
Feng Bei sat there, deftly spinning a pair of chopsticks in her hand, their movements a blur of afterimages. Even as Pei the Second stood menacingly before her and slammed the table, she didn’t so much as raise her head. Her gaze was fixed on the spinning chopsticks as she said in a soft, languid tone, "That’s precisely why I went to hijack it."
A vein bulged on Pei the Second’s forehead. He ground out through clenched teeth, "Yunhe Village and Black Wind Stronghold have always minded their own business. Patriarch Xie, what you’ve done... how am I supposed to answer to my brothers? You’ve made things very difficult!"
"Difficult? Then don’t bother." Feng Bei’s eyes narrowed. "Just tell them it was I, Xie Luohe, who had it taken. If anyone wants an explanation, let them come to me."
CLACK.
Upstairs.
The half-chewed chicken bone fell from Chu Chengfeng’s hand, clattering near his feet. He was frozen in place, his face ashen.
Zheng Xiu was also stunned.
’Xie Luohe?’
’Feng Bei is Xie Luohe?’
’Or does Xie Luohe just happen to look like Feng Bei?’
At first, Zheng Xiu only found the name somewhat familiar.
But it didn’t take long for him to remember.
When they had first entered Shuzhou, the four of them had split up.
Yue Yan and Dou Xie took a different route. When they regrouped later, Yue Yan had mentioned the joint tomb of Gongsun Mo and Xie Luohe.
Although the name had only surfaced once in Zheng Xiu’s memory, ever since he had learned that the Ghostly Realm in the World in the Painting was, in fact, Gongsun Mo’s memories, it was easy for him to make the connection.
’What is going on right now?’
Zheng Xiu was a little confused.
Inside the World in the Painting, inside the memory world of Gongsun Mo from two hundred years ago.
The man who looked just like Zheng Xiu was actually Gongsun Mo.
The woman who looked just like Feng Bei was actually Xie Luohe.
Zheng Xiu stared at this "Xie Luohe," whose bearing and demeanor were completely different from Feng Bei’s. He couldn’t tell at all: was the woman before him Feng Bei, or was she a Xie Luohe who just happened to look like Feng Bei?
He couldn’t tell!
While Zheng Xiu and Chu Chengfeng were reeling in shock for their own different reasons,
the situation below grew even more tense.
"You damn bitch!" one of the hot-tempered bandits roared. "We tried to be reasonable, but you threw it back in our faces! Don’t think you’re so high and mighty just because you’re ranked fiftieth on the Weapon Manual! Goddamnit! Patriarch Xie, you don’t even have your bow with you! Without it, you’re nothing! Our Second-in-Command is just talking to you so you know why you’re dying! You really think you’re walking out of here alive today?"
"Hahahaha..." Xie Luohe suddenly burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Other people are ranked fiftieth on the Weapon Manual because that’s as high as they can get. I, Xie Luohe, am ranked fiftieth because that’s where I want to be."
Xie Luohe was laughing heartily. She looked at the hot-headed bandit from Black Wind Stronghold and pointed her chopsticks at him. "You were saying... you don’t plan on letting me leave alive? Hmm? Is that your intention as well, Pei the Second?"
Pei the Second’s face was grim, his silence a clear confirmation.
Xie Luohe smiled and looked up at the second floor, at Chu Chengfeng and Zheng Xiu, who both wore complex expressions.
"You, the young master and the little brother up there, did you hear that? They’re definitely going to kill you to shut you up."
Pei the Second lunged at Xie Luohe with his saber. "Stop trying to sow discord!"
With a flick of her wrist, Xie Luohe casually tossed the chopsticks.
Pei the Second had just raised his saber, not yet having brought it down, when he froze in place as if he’d been electrocuted, completely still.
Xie Luohe said, "What a coincidence. I wasn’t planning on letting you leave alive, either."
A bloody hole had appeared on Pei the Second’s forehead.
