Chapter 213: Chapter 149: Fallacy of the Common World

Upon hearing this, veins bulged on Zheng Xiu’s forehead.

"Grandpa also said, if you regret it, don’t look back."

Xiaozhao finished, mimicking the old man’s tone, then added timidly.

Clearly, the Mighty Man’s current expression frightened him.

Zheng Xiu fell silent.

Staring at the tightly shut door, Zheng Xiu blinked. The Dice Deceitful Object emerged from between his brows at his Will, spinning rapidly by his side as if it were alive.

[inspiration]!

[Scouting]!

Strange wisps of black energy flowed through the house. Under his Spiritual Vision, the moving black currents felt to Zheng Xiu like... wind.

"Stop skulking around!"

With a cold snort, Zheng Xiu shot out a fist like a bullet. His body lunged like a Fierce Tiger, and the wooden door instantly shattered.

BOOM!

Dust flew as a storm of black raven feathers billowed up from the floor!

Raven feathers!

The raven feathers, kicked up by the gale, swirled through the room, gathering into an eerie vortex.

One by one, the raven feathers began to melt before Zheng Xiu’s eyes, and a putrid stench washed over him.

"CAW—"

First came a shrill caw. Then, the feathers that had melted into black liquid coalesced like modeling clay, reforming into a jet-black Raven.

The first, the second, the third, the fourth...

Zheng Xiu watched, wide-eyed, as Raven after Raven was reborn from the feathers.

"Monk! Get back!"

The moment the Monk saw the Mighty Man punch open the door and raven feathers drift out, his face fell. ’This is bad,’ he thought. His expression twisted into a malicious smirk as he prepared to make a dishonorable move—turn and grab the little brat to use as a hostage. But when he looked back, the boy who called himself Xiaozhao, the sixteenth-generation Purifying Witch of Jingtang Town, had vanished without a trace, as if he had never been there at all!

The writhing black liquid dripped like scalding asphalt inside the dim, dilapidated house. Wherever it landed, it corroded fist-sized pits into the floor, which sizzled and billowed with black smoke.

All that remained in the house now was a pure blackness, spinning silently like a vortex.

"Alas."

A faint sigh echoed from within the black vortex.

’There’s someone inside the vortex!’

"Go!"

The hairs on Zheng Xiu’s body stood on end, each one ramrod straight.

[Intuition] triggered. But this time, it didn’t bring Zheng Xiu a clear "vision of his death." Instead, for a split second, an endless darkness flashed through his mind, as if he had completely closed his eyes and could no longer see a thing.

[DEATH].

Six faint points of bloody light glowed, and the word "DEATH" abruptly surfaced in Zheng Xiu’s mind.

His chest swelled, and the phantom of the Caged Sparrow burst forth from his torso. It soared high into the air before diving down and merging into Zheng Xiu’s Tianling Acupoint.

"You are already so close to the Darkness?"

The black vortex was like a doorway, and from within, the old man’s voice emerged, laced with shock and uncertainty.

But in the next moment, the old man sighed again.

"Then go where you belong."

An inky-black light solidified into a single wing behind Zheng Xiu, as black markings spread downward from the center of his chest.

Zheng Xiu quickly took on a demonic appearance, with a pale face and sharp fangs.

"Monk!"

Zheng Xiu spun around and grabbed the Monk, who was just about to shoot into the sky and flee.

SHIIIIINK!

A piercing sound of rending air echoed behind Zheng Xiu. A black hand shot out, faster than his ascent, and seized him by the calf.

Zheng Xiu had flown more than ten meters high. He glanced back, and his pupils contracted violently.

A tall, shadowy figure with unnaturally long limbs was rapidly striding out of the black vortex.

The strange being was tightly wrapped in tattered black cloth like a beggar, not a hint of skin exposed. Its messy, withered white hair was particularly jarring.

The area where "its" eyes should be was covered with several thick layers of red cloth. Within the fabric, six points of bloody light faintly pulsed, like six eyeballs hidden behind the red blindfold. It was a chilling sight.

The strange being’s spine was bent, and it shuffled out of the vortex hunched over like an old man. As it reached the center of the courtyard, its long, thin arm, still gripping Zheng Xiu’s ankle, was stretched out over ten meters long.

"You’re..." A thought sparked in Zheng Xiu’s mind, and amidst his shock, a terrifying guess surfaced. "The Night Lord?"

The old man in the vortex did not reveal himself, but he heard Zheng Xiu’s words and said indifferently:

"That is the Crow Fosterer, ’Jiu’."

Upon receiving confirmation, Zheng Xiu forcefully threw Ruchen away.

Ruchen’s vision blurred, and he saw Jingtang Town rapidly shrinking in the distance.

Zheng Xiu had tossed him out of the town like a piece of garbage.

"Die!"

Zheng Xiu closed his eyes. He flicked his captured right foot upward, unleashing a terrifying burst of strength that yanked the Crow Fosterer high into the air. Then, using his single wing to spin his body in midair, the long arm gripping his ankle was pulled taut. The rotational force then allowed him to brutally slam the creature toward the ground.

KABOOM!

From a distance, Zheng Xiu’s leg connected to the Crow Fosterer’s arm looked like a black axe, swinging down in a vertical chop.

With a massive crash and a cloud of billowing dust, the Crow Fosterer slammed into the ground like a cannonball.

"Jiu, go. Bring back the Human Pillar."

The Night Lord barely had time to get the words out before the black vortex—the doorway inside the house—was smashed to smithereens as the Crow Fosterer’s body crashed through it, taking the entire house with it.

Zheng Xiu glanced down at his ankle. The Crow Fosterer’s five fingers were clamped around it like an iron hoop. His ankle was already misshapen, having been twisted to the point of breaking.

Of course, the pain of a mere fracture wasn’t enough to faze Zheng Xiu. He was frowning because when he had slammed the Crow Fosterer into the ground, the sound of the impact wasn’t that of flesh and bone. It was more like a pile of meat paste, making a strange "SPLAT" sound the moment it hit.
