Chapter 71: Priest
A priest...
Roseus considered his new title carefully. Seeing this change in his system felt hard to believe.
To go from a follower to a priest seemed like a huge jump. This was a title given to religious leaders of the main orthodox churches and religions. Now, he had been given one of these titles himself.
Without even looking at his system, there were a few things that he could tell would come with this change.
First, his Greycloud Longsword skill, which granted him five bolts of lightning from Rai’zac had been restored. Previously, he has used two to kill that Lieutenant Ulysses, which meant that he had three left before the weapon would be destroyed. That had been restored to five.
He also knew that his ability to control his powers over the storm had been increased. His control still remained at a significant level, but he knew that using these skills would require less of his energy.
As for the changes to his actual system, two new powers had appeared.
[Storm Jumping] ~ Teleport inside of a nearby lightning bolt from up to fifty meters away.
[Thunder Seams] ~ Applies clothing or armour with a resistance to all forms of shock/lightning. The heavier the clothing or armour, the most resistance can be applied.
Reading this, Roseus’s Understanding of the supreme system grew.
It seemed that through each pact rank increase, one would earn a number of general passive buffs, as well as active skills. This differed from the Sailor System, where skills could be directly earned through engaging in life at sea.
Finally, there was one more area of his system which had underwent changes. This was his Ship Modifications system.
A new modification had appeared, and it happened to be his first tier III mod.
- Two Churches (Tier 3 Mod) → When a crew contains priests belonging to two different religions or gods, ship maneavourability is significantly increased.
This...
From the description of this modification, Roseus was able to confirm that Zaliah was at the priest rank of her bond with Yazu.
This was something he had already suspected, however he was surprised to find that she was only at rank two in her pact with the god. With the amount of time and dedication she had put towards her religion, shouldn’t she have been higher?
Perhaps it’s because there is a specific requirement that needs to be met in order to progress to the next pact rank...
Finally, with all of Roseus’s new information examined, he finally donned his clothing once and left Thunderpoint Peak.
The descent down the mountain back towards the dockyard town was much quieter than before.
Where he had once faced thunder remnants every minute, he now only passed the animals of the forest, who dared to come out of their hiding spots.
After a long walk, he arrived back at the dockyard town. Although it was night time, this streets were quiet, if not for the sound of thunder in the distance.
As he passed houses, he felt eyes staring at him through doors that just barely creaked open.
At least a handful of the towns residents dared to have a look and sea what was happening in the town. Of course, they were not brave enough to step outside, incase the storm suddenly decided to appear once again.
That meant that the only one who walked through these streets were Roseus.
As he did, he heard a child’s voice call out from behind a barricaded window.
"The storm man! Is he the storm man!"
"Shush, move away from the window!" A woman’s voice came afterwards. "We don’t know that it is safe yet."
The storm man... That’s right, it must strange them seeing someone walk the nightime streets for the first time. Even Captain Lionheart and the Templars didn’t dare leaving the comfort of the church.
As he arrived back at the Stormshield Tavern, where his crew mates were staying, he swiftly realised something.
He wouldn’t be allowed back inside, as the tavern keeper was still too afraid to unlock his door and remove his barricaded until morning.
He let out a great sigh, as he sat down and rested against a fountain located in the town centre.
With his back against the cold stone, he suddenly realised just how tired he had become. Using the powers bestowed onto him by Rai’zac was much more draining that he had expected, especially since he had used them before becoming a priest.
So with that, Roseus closed his eyes and allowed sleep to take him.
~~~
"Rose... Rose, wake up!"
Captain Roseus woke up to the blinding lights of the sun shining down on him.
Crouched down in front of him was Dawn. Her singular green eye looked at him worryingly.
As he opened his own eyes and looked at her, he was confused as to why she wore such a frightened expression.
"What’s wrong?" He asked.
Dawn looked at him closely. "Your eyes... They’ve changed."
When Roseus looked around, he found that there were many towns people surrounding him, watching him as though he was a performer.
He heard them whispering words such as, "was it him?" And, "how did he survive at night?" He even heard somebody question whether he was a prophet.
That was because on the strange night which he had decided to climb to the peak, the storm decided to leave the town alone. Not to mention, he was the only one who dared to remain out in the streets during that night, and even slept there.
After they saw him wake up, the crowd slowly began to disperse. It was almost as if they were worried about his wellbeing, and wanted to make sure that he was not dead.
Roseus turned back to Dawn and asked in confusion. "What has happened to my eyes?"
Dawn titled her head slightly sideways and explained.
"Can’t you feel it? Where your eyes were once fully black, they now seem to hold a slight spark of golden light right at their center. It’s only noticeable if you are up close."
My eyes have become slightly golden...
Dawn placed her hand on her captain’s chin and positioned his face so that she could get a better look at him. Such a act would usually make her blush, but she was more focused on her captain’s wellbeing at the moment.
"Just what happened to you at the mountain peak?"
