Seoyeon’s Fan Club Buzzes with Anticipation for Her Next Project, The Gyeongseong Lady

Lately, Seoyeon's fan club had been quiet, waiting eagerly for her upcoming project, The Gyeongseong Lady. Occasionally, discussions about her magical girl role versus her rival Cha Seo-ah surfaced, though fans agreed they were too different to compare.

Then suddenly, a new post appeared.

Post Title: "What’s with this trending topic on Japan’s Twitter?"

"What’s this Dokkiri thing, and who’s Seoyeon-chan? Isn’t that Joo Seoyeon?"

At first, fans thought it was just a prank post. Maybe somewhere else it would have gone unnoticed, but this was Seoyeon's official fan club.

Sure, the club occasionally got posts from "antis" that bordered on harsh, but it was all in the spirit of loving the actress. Naturally, any images or videos she posted on her Instagram account spread fast within the community.

  • "Seoyeon’s in Japan."
  • "How do you know?"
  • "She posted a video from the airport on Instagram. Narumi Sora’s with her."
  • "Did they take a translator?"
  • "Wait, Seoyeon has Instagram? I didn’t know that."
  • "Seoyeon has an Instagram account??"
  • "I think her manager manages it."

So, they knew Seoyeon was in Japan. But what on earth was she doing there to be trending on Twitter? In fact, her rank was around #7 but rising fast.

  • "Apparently Dokkiri means something like hidden camera prank in our country."
  • "What??"
  • "Seoyeon’s on a hidden camera show? No way, I can’t miss this."
  • "Quick, someone share the link! 'Hidden Camera of Bathing Seoyeon.smi' <-link"

└ "Dude, that’s a gorilla spinning around in a bath."

  • "Gorillas are so outdated, are you new here?"
  • "That clip gets you banned from the cafe now."
  • "This place is still a fan cafe, I guess; they even manage spam like that."
  • "Gorillas aren’t even shocking anymore."
  • "Ah."

The fan club had come to life with renewed energy. Soon enough, they found the variety show episode Seoyeon was in.

The prank involved Japanese actors at an inn, with Seoyeon unknowingly participating. And then, the sight of Seoyeon piercing a mannequin with her bare hands...

  • "Seoyeon has practically become a human weapon now..."
  • "Lol, she even dodged paintballs mid-air once."
  • "Honestly, she’d probably yawn and pick her nose while catching a falling mannequin."
  • "Seoyeon doesn’t pick her nose."

For a rare moment, the show captured Seoyeon looking frightened, much to the amusement of her fans. Sure, she looked scared, but fans were more curious about what she’d do next.

Post Title: "Japanese Reactions are Crazy."

"Who’s got a good chicken place recommendation to watch this with?"

    Comments:

  • "Came here smiling, now I’m dead serious."
  • "Starve, bro."

Some fans enjoyed the Japanese reactions to Seoyeon, eagerly awaiting updates on how the hidden camera prank would unfold.

  • "If it’s Seoyeon, she’s bound to do something epic here."
  • "She pretty much owns variety shows whenever she’s on, lol."
  • "For real, lol."

The hidden camera prank officially began. Seoyeon, visibly shaken, walked down the hall, unaware of the ghost actor sneaking up behind her.

All the lights in the inn went out, plunging it into darkness.

Through the night vision camera, Seoyeon’s figure looked clearly terrified, her posture tense, completely different from the confident way she’d walked just moments before.

043: "Behind you, behind you, behind you!"

045: "Seoyeon-chan is adorable, lol. She’s totally frozen!"

046: "Honestly, I thought she wouldn’t be scared at all."

050: "The person in the ghost costume—is she famous? I think I’ve seen her before."

051: "Really? She must work a lot of events, then."

052: "Are there elites in ghost acting, too?"

In the darkness, a long-haired woman in ghostly makeup began to move. Normally, Seoyeon would have noticed right away. But now, she seemed genuinely disoriented.

The ghost actor approached from a hidden partition in the hallway, catching Seoyeon off guard.

When Seoyeon sensed something behind her, she turned her head, a normal reaction.

But as she locked eyes with the ghost, she froze completely.

068: "Wait, what?? Are her eyes turning red?"

069: "Is that a special effect? Or are her eyes naturally like that?"

070: "Lol, no one has eyes like that."

    071: "Cool~"

072: "I love black hair and red eyes."

073: "No, no, guys, that’s not the point! Something’s weird, lol."

Seoyeon’s eyes glowed red as she stared down the ghost. Then, with a soft thud, her legs gave out beneath her, and she crumpled to the floor.

  • "Did her legs just give out?"
  • "Honestly, I’d be the same."

The viewers anticipated Seoyeon’s next reaction. Would she scream and run, or would she laugh it off?

Normally, celebrities reacted one of two ways in these situations.

They either played it cool, shrugging off the scare, or went into over-the-top panic mode.

Celebrities from abroad usually chose the first route, as they thought it looked cooler to stay calm. Japanese celebrities, on the other hand, often gave exaggerated reactions that viewers loved.

    Which would Seoyeon choose?

    As they watched intently...

    Suddenly, she began crawling.

344: "Wait, Seoyeon-chan is crawling away?"

345: "There’s something kind of sexy about her crawling away."

With her legs still shaky, she crawled on her hands and knees to escape. But something was strange—her crawling speed was unusually fast.

The ghost actor’s footsteps quickened to catch up, yet Seoyeon’s crawling didn’t lose any ground. It was like Achilles and the tortoise.

As the ghost sped up, Seoyeon’s crawling only got faster.

380: "No way, lol. How is she crawling that fast, lol."

391: "The ghost looks panicked, lol."

    401: "Loooool."

403: "Seoyeon-chan, the ghost is waving at you to wait."

At that moment, Seoyeon’s mind was blank. Her only thought was to escape the ghost.

So she crawled as quickly as she could in the direction she last saw Sora and her manager, Park Eun-ha, hoping to get help.

But seeing Seoyeon coming, they shrieked and fled, too.

    Just imagine.

Seoyeon, with her long hair cascading over her face as she crawled, her red eyes gleaming in the dark, moving without using her legs.

What reaction could you expect from anyone who saw that?

    "Kyahhhhh!!!"

「"It’s scary! It’s so scary! What even is that!!」」

Eun-ha and Sora screamed as they ran, Sora even reverting to Japanese in her panic, her mind unable to recall any Korean.

003: "So Sora-chan really is Japanese, huh?"

012: "Wait, are we already on a new thread? She’s really popular, lol."

034: "Anyone who sees that would want to post about it."

067: "No, Seoyeon-chan is terrifying, lol."

068: "If I saw that in person, I’d probably faint, lol."

What’s worse, Japanese actors were running away with Eun-ha and Sora. One actor, initially dressed as a ghost to scare them, had ended up fleeing with them.

201: "I honestly thought that zombie was part of their group."

208: "Oh, did he drop his axe?"

280: "It’s a plastic axe, right? Metal would be dangerous."

302: "Seoyeon-chan is amazing. Is this reverse scare acting?"

308: "If that’s not intentional, then wow, her acting is incredible, lol."

Amusingly, Seoyeon was the one running away. She thought she was running with Sora and Eun-ha for safety, not realizing they were fleeing from her.

Other ghosts appeared nearby, but she paid them no mind. And then, while crawling, her red eyes locked onto a dropped axe.

558: "She picked up the axe?"

580: "Wait, wait, wait, lol. No way."

Could it be? Was she going to grab the dropped axe? As fans held their breath, Seoyeon gripped the axe and started striking the ground with it as she crawled.

Her crawling speed visibly increased, with a booming thud, thud, thud! echoing throughout the old inn, escalating the fear among those running away.

Even the actors who had meticulously prepared their ghostly looks couldn’t compete.

    801: "Lololol."

    840: "Lmao."

    856: "Looool."

921: "They’re no match, lol. Japanese ghosts, step it up, lol."

"How could they possibly step it up against that, lol?"

941: "Seoyeon-chan really is a genius actress. Is this the dignity of a genius actress??"

942: "Was she trying to scare them back from the start?"

951: "I don’t know, lol, but if she planned it, that’s amazing."

Some viewers began to think Seoyeon was purposefully playing a ghost to scare everyone. After all, how could anyone mistake her for a terrified victim with that performance?

Ghosts and humans alike fled in terror.

"Hurry, close it! Quickly, quickly, quickly!!!"

An actor in zombie makeup urgently shouted, as if genuinely pursued by a ghost. Just as the partition door was closing—

With a loud clunk, something got caught.

    Everyone looked down.

Axe wedged in the gap, with a pair of red eyes gleaming through the crack.

    034: "Nooo, lol."

    041: "Wait for us, lol."

    042: "Lololol."

048: "This is too scary, lololol."

058: "You’re supposed to scare her! Why are you freaking out, lol."

134: "Honestly, if I were there, I’d have passed out ages ago."

213: "Not just passed out—I would’ve wet myself, for real."

And with that, the viewers shared their reactions.

"Wow~, that was terrifying. Seriously, I was so scared."

A follow-up interview played, featuring the first actor who dropped the axe and ran.

"The axe? Oh, no, I didn’t mean to drop it—I was just startled! It’s scary! Look at her! She’s terrifying!!"

The actor pointed dramatically at Seoyeon, who had just walked out.

"I never imagined she’d catch on to our prank and turn it around on us."

"Yeah, honestly, I was thinking, ‘What is she doing?’ as I chased her."

The actress who’d initially chased Seoyeon laughed, recounting her attempt to follow Seoyeon until she picked up the axe.

"When she started crawling back with the axe, I was thinking, ‘Wait, what am I supposed to do?’"

"Oh, that would have been so funny."

    "No, not funny at all!"

"I’d heard Seoyeon is called a genius actress in Korea, and now I finally get it. If she can improvise like that, her screen acting must be incredible."

The subtitles showed mention of Seoyeon’s current works, Dream Future and her upcoming movie, The Chaser, which was set to release soon.

The Chaser was surprisingly releasing in Japan shortly after its Korean debut, possibly because the director had a strong following in Japan.

    034: "Wow, that was fun."

045: "Honestly, I didn’t expect much, but that was so entertaining."

084: "I thought it was amazing how she didn’t hold back and just went for it."

121: "I heard her movie’s coming out soon."

128: "Wasn’t interested, but I might check it out."

340: "Lolol, what? Seoyeon-chan’s trending #1 right now, lol."

412: "Lol, this is amazing, lol."

And so, as the broadcast ended, Seoyeon’s name, previously below the Dokkiri topic, now shot up to claim the #1 spot on Twitter trends. Posts with Seoyeon’s gifs and clips spread rapidly.

"Seoyeon, if you don’t mind, could you make a cameo appearance while you’re here?"

People were already reaching out to Seoyeon, eager to collaborate after seeing her remarkable performance on Dokkiri.

    Of course, from Seoyeon’s perspective...

    “That wasn’t acting.”

For once, she felt embarrassed by their misconception. Even for her, being mistaken for “acting” when she’d been genuinely terrified was a bit much.
