Chapter 416: Chapter 416: What Does This Thing Taste Like

Yun Ji was going to teach her how to purify the contaminated water.

Yun Ji walked to the riverbank and tapped the surface of the water with his fingertip. The once crystal-clear water instantly turned murky.

"Purifying it isn’t actually that difficult..."

Qiao Xixi listened intently. The lessons went on for several days.

Unlike anything she had ever learned before, she felt an indescribable exhaustion every time she finished a lesson.

Early one morning, she went to the riverbank with Yun Ji again. After he tapped the water, that section of the river turned murky once more.

Qiao Xixi jumped into the river and moved to the center of the contaminated water. Instead of forming hand seals, she stood in the middle of the water and began to dance, using her entire body.

Yun Ji had told her this was the God Inviting Purification Dance. The dance would mobilize the energy in her body, which in turn would purify this section of the water.

As Qiao Xixi danced, the murky water around her gradually cleared. Wisps of black energy continuously rose from the surface like steam.

As Qiao Xixi gracefully held her final pose, her body seemingly suspended in the water, the mist rising from the river shattered like glass.

Outside the barrier Yun Ji had created, the black and red mist surrounding the monster fighting Jin Ling suddenly faded. When it tried to launch a sneak attack from behind, its outstretched claws turned illusory in mid-air.

Jin Ling pounced like a nimble tiger, landing in front of the monster and slamming it to the ground with one paw. Before the creature could recover, his sharp claws had already torn open its chest and dug out the Dark Origin Stone.

A shadow suddenly fell over him from above. Jin Ling looked up to see a massive Black Phoenix descending rapidly, landing on a large tree not far ahead.

Jin Ling didn’t rush forward. Instead, he watched coldly as the Black Phoenix transformed into Kunlin.

Kunlin turned, his gaze landing on Jin Ling, a bloodthirsty smile in his eyes.

"Jin Ling. I’ve found you."

Jin Ling watched him, his expression unreadable. "Where’s Xixi? What have you done with her?"

"She’s in a very safe place. I’ll take you to her right now."

"Alright."

Looking completely convinced, Jin Ling followed behind Kunlin.

They had only walked a short distance when the sound of a Bone Bell echoed through the forest.

Jin Ling remembered the beastfolk guard saying that when the Bone Bell rings, you must stop all movement or be killed by the monsters.

So, the instant he heard the Bone Bell, he froze.

Kunlin, however, kept walking as if he hadn’t heard a thing.

A moment later, the forest began to rustle. Wisps of black mist materialized before his eyes, and even Kunlin became wreathed in a dark red fog.

In the blink of an eye, the mist coalesced into bizarrely shaped monsters.

They resembled birds and Deer Beasts, yet they weren’t quite like normal animals, as these monsters had extra eyes or fingers.

The Bone Bell was still ringing. Kunlin suddenly stopped and looked back toward Jin Ling’s position.

"Hm? He’s gone." He gave a strange laugh. "It seems the Bone Bell has rung."

He stood still for a moment, still staring in Jin Ling’s direction, then slowly walked back, stopping right in front of where Jin Ling stood.

"Where could he be? Here?"

Kunlin suddenly leaned in close to Jin Ling, his face almost touching Jin Ling’s.

Jin Ling’s pupils contracted and his body tensed. ’If Kunlin really can’t see me,’ he thought, ’this distance is close enough for a quick kill.’

But he didn’t move. ’That rule exists for a reason.’

Sure enough, Kunlin slowly straightened up. His hand suddenly transformed into a sharp blade and thrust toward Jin Ling’s position.

But just as the blade was about to touch Jin Ling, it passed straight through his body without causing any physical harm.

Kunlin’s strike missed, and his face instantly twisted in frustration.

"He actually didn’t move!"

The beastfolk guard had been right. After the Bone Bell rings, as long as you stand perfectly still, the monsters can’t harm you, even if they’re right in front of you.

Moreover, the monsters couldn’t hear the bell, so they had no idea when it would stop ringing. They would eventually leave after failing to find the beastfolk.

Sure enough, after circling the area and returning to Jin Ling’s position to find nothing, Kunlin looked bored and turned to leave.

Just then, a plume of black mist shot out, rapidly enveloping Kunlin’s entire body.

"Kunlin, so this is where you were hiding."

Jin Ling was left speechless.

A flash of excitement crossed Kunlin’s crimson pupils. In an instant, he also transformed into a mass of black and red mist, tangling with Sangze.

Sangze’s actions instantly attracted a large horde of monsters, which attacked him in a frenzy.

Sangze quickly separated from Kunlin and reverted to his human form. There wasn’t a trace of fear in his dark pupils, only an indescribable excitement. His madness was on par with Kunlin’s.

Kunlin stared at him coldly. "I do love the ones who aren’t afraid to die."

Kunlin spread his massive wings. "Go. Tear him to shreds."

The monsters swarmed Sangze, their numbers so overwhelming that Jin Ling could no longer see him.

He frowned, then charged forward with a tiger’s roar.

At the sound of the tiger’s roar, the smile in Kunlin’s eyes widened.

"So you really were hiding there."

A chaotic melee erupted.

The shrill cries of the monsters echoed throughout the mountain forest.

Sunxiao and Feiyan frowned when they heard the commotion coming from the forest.

"Why are Jin Ling and Sangze moving?"

After the Bone Bell began to ring, they had both stopped under a large tree. Back then, the locators for Jin Ling and Sangze were stationary, but just a moment ago, both had started moving.

"We’re not supposed to move when the Bone Bell rings. They shouldn’t be making any noise. It must be that madman Sangze acting up again. Let’s go take a look."

Sunxiao watched their locators, which showed them moving constantly within a small area. Feiyan’s guess was probably right.

"Let’s go."

The moment they moved, they felt an unusual fluctuation in the air. Without hesitating, they sped toward Jin Ling and Sangze’s location.

Soon, they saw the two of them slaughtering monsters.

Sangze looked at the handful of bloody Beast Crystals in his grasp. "I’ve always wondered what these things taste like."

With that, he tossed all the Beast Crystals into his mouth and began to chew them. CRUNCH. CRUNCH.

Kunlin’s face stiffened at the sight.

The moment Sangze swallowed all the Crystal Stones, a black mist erupted from his body. A strange power flooded his limbs, and he threw his head back with a wild laugh.

"Incredible! HAHAHAHA! Now die!"

He shot into the air and lunged at Kunlin.

Feiyan frowned in disgust. "He’s a madman."

「Meanwhile, by the Heavenly Pool River.」

Qiao Xixi stared at the completely purified river. Her vision swam with black spots, and she collapsed into the water.

Yun Ji’s expression shifted. He rose into the air and flew toward Qiao Xixi, but before he could reach her, her body sank rapidly beneath the surface.
