Chapter 49: Chapter 48: The 5 Ghosts of Yin Mountain
Chen Yuan and Luo the Thirteenth Lang killed their way forward, accumulating over a hundred Spirit Pills.
Meanwhile, perched on the branches of a massive, withered tree, four figures watched Chen Yuan and Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s every move.
They were, in fact, still a great distance from Chen Yuan and Luo the Thirteenth Lang.
However, one of them—a woman with a curvaceous figure in a red dress and a mask that left her slender waist exposed—held a Copper Mirror. Reflected hazily within it were the very images of Chen Yuan and Luo the Thirteenth Lang.
These four were none other than the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts, all but their leader, Elder Qi’s Dao.
The Yin Mountain Five Ghosts were five Loose Cultivators of considerable notoriety who roamed the Border of Youning.
They were ruthless and treacherous, fleeing to Ning Province whenever they caused trouble in You Province, and vice versa.
They had even killed someone from the Sun-piercing Alliance and were hunted for a thousand li across You Province by the Alliance. Yet, they managed to escape, though they hadn’t dared set foot in You Province recently.
Aside from their leader, ’Illusory Yin Master’ Qi Daoist, the group consisted of three men and one woman.
The woman controlling the Copper Mirror and observing Chen Yuan’s party was the second-in-command, ’Blood Robe Embroideress’ Qin Honglian.
Standing behind Qin Honglian was a towering, burly brute with a hideously savage face. He carried a Giant Sword on his back and was the third member, ’Blood Hulv’ Han Gang.
To Han Gang’s left was a short and ugly dwarf wearing strange Iron Armor and a pair of gloves covered in blades. He was the fourth member, ’Earth-Drilling Child’ Xin Ziyin.
The final member was the most normal-looking of the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts. Dressed in a snow-white scholar’s robe, he was handsome, if a bit pale, with alluring ’peach-blossom’ eyes and a Judge’s Pen in hand.
He was the fifth member, ’Jade-Faced Scholar’ Liu Lianxiang, but he was a ravenous lecher. He loved to ravage women before sadistically murdering them, and he preyed on men and women alike.
"These two seem a bit troublesome. They’ve dispatched so many Corpse Monsters in such a short time, making it look as easy as slicing vegetables."
’Earth-Drilling Child’ Xin Ziyin frowned slightly, his voice sharp and thin, like a child’s.
Liu Lianxiang curled his lip and said, "That bastard Wei Guangming only said he wanted us to help him snatch Spirit Pills and help him marry into the Three Sealed Demon Races. He never said we’d have to kill people for him.
That guy is going to make a killing from this. If he wins in the end and marries into the Three Sealed Demon Races, he’ll be marrying that beautiful maiden from the Bai Family, and he’ll get a huge dowry.
We’re doing all this work, but he’s getting all the benefits. If you ask me, he needs to pay more!"
Han Gang didn’t speak, just nodded in agreement.
Qin Honglian said coldly, "We can ask for more money, but only after the job is done right. We’ve offended the Sun-piercing Alliance, so we can’t return to You Province for the time being. We’ll have to lay low and make a living here for a while.
If we handle this job for Wei Guangming properly, it’ll be enough for us to live comfortably for some time.
The Iron Armor Sect has deep foundations. Maybe one of us can even use this opportunity to break through to the Sea of Reincarnation Realm."
After a pause, Qin Honglian continued, "They’re certainly a handful together. We need to separate them."
The moment she finished speaking, Qin Honglian gestured, and a blood-red insect flew out from her cleavage.
The blood-red insect was bizarre; it had four wings, a hard carapace, and spikes on its front and back. It resembled no known insect.
Qin Honglian wrote a small note and had the blood-red insect grasp it. With a light wave of her hand, the insect immediately sped away.
"I’ve used a Poisonous Insect to notify the Iron Armor Sect. They will deal with one, and we will deal with the other."
Liu Lianxiang suddenly let out a lewd laugh. "Let them handle that big oaf with the spear. We’ll take the one with the saber.
That saber user is quite handsome. And that cold, sharp aura... I like it!
When we make our move, be careful. Don’t you dare mar that pretty face of his."
Both Han Gang and Xin Ziyin silently took a step away from him.
Liu Lianxiang spat in contempt. "What are you two afraid of? One of you looks like an animated potato, and the other looks like he was dropped on his face at birth. Did you really think I’d be interested in you? Even Sister Qin is..."
Before he could finish, Qin Honglian’s icy gaze fell upon him, and Liu Lianxiang immediately shut his mouth.
Qin Honglian’s hands formed a Seal Technique. A moment later, a Poisonous Insect with a head larger than its body, its entire face a mass of compound eyes, flew to her side.
"The Poisonous Insect will lead the way. Prepare to move!"
...
Within the mist, Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s Long Spear skewered three Corpse Monsters at once. He effortlessly tore them to shreds.
"These things don’t seem that hard to kill. Why did the Three Sealed Demon Races even need to hire help from outside?"
Chen Yuan put away the Spirit Pills and said, "You and I are wielding top-tier Profound Soldiers, and the number of Corpse Monsters here isn’t too high, so it seems easy.
If a hundred Corpse Monsters were to charge us, we would also have some trouble. Only Martial Artists who have opened their Reincarnation Sea have the stamina to deal with them.
Moreover, the deeper we go, the more deeply the Corpse Monsters are stained by Demonic Qi, and the stronger they become."
Luo the Thirteenth Lang nodded, then suddenly said, "Why do I get the feeling we’re being watched?"
"It’s not a feeling. We are being watched. The Iron Armor Sect has always been overbearing. After we killed so many of their disciples, how could they possibly let us go?"
Chen Yuan’s perception was sharp. From the moment he entered this place, he had sensed something watching him.
But the thing watching him wasn’t a person; it was likely some kind of Secret Technique. Chasing it would be useless.
So Chen Yuan acted as if he didn’t know. He would simply deal with whatever came his way.
"You two are quite self-aware. In that case, kill yourselves. My Iron Armor Sect will grant you an intact corpse!"
Eight disciples from the Iron Armor Sect closed in. Their leader, a cultivator at the Peak of the Qi Casting Realm, watched the pair with a mocking gaze.
Chen Yuan glanced behind him. Qin Honglian and the others from the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts had also closed in, completing the encirclement.
"We take pay to solve problems. When you two reach the Underworld, remember this: you died at the hands of the Iron Armor Sect, not the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts."
Qin Honglian toyed with the compound-eyed Poisonous Insect in her hand, her gaze on Chen Yuan and his companion no different from looking at corpses.
’With eight elite disciples of the Iron Armor Sect, plus the four of them from the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts, forget about two Qi Casting Realm Martial Artists—they could even kill an expert from the Sea of Reincarnation Realm!’
Chen Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly. "They really think highly of us. Brother Luo, I’ll leave that bunch from the Iron Armor Sect to you. How about it?"
Luo the Thirteenth Lang was actually more efficient than Chen Yuan at dealing with Martial Artists from the Iron Armor Sect.
Chen Yuan had to brute-force his way through their Iron Conical Hats. Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s approach was much simpler. A single thrust of his Profound Flood Dragon Spear, concentrating all its force on a single point, could pierce right through man and shield alike.
"Brother Chen, are you really confident you can deal with these four?"
Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s expression grew solemn.
Although there were more people on the Iron Armor Sect’s side, Luo the Thirteenth Lang really didn’t see them as a threat.
However, the auras of the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts were bizarre and unfathomable. His intuition told him that these four were no ordinary rabble.
"Relax. It won’t be a problem."
Qin Honglian’s face sank. "Arrogant!"
Xin Ziyin sneered, "Courting death!"
Han Gang spat out one word: "Kill!"
His eyes gleaming, Liu Lianxiang stared at Chen Yuan. "So domineering!"
The instant Chen Yuan finished speaking, Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s entire demeanor transformed.
His simple, oafish demeanor vanished, replaced by a soaring battlelust and a piercing, cold gaze.
With a thunderous roar, Luo the Thirteenth Lang’s Profound Flood Dragon Spear shot forward like a streak of black light—a battle-tested flood dragon, ready to overturn the heavens and the earth!
At the sight of this attack, the faces of the eight Iron Armor Sect disciples paled. They simultaneously removed their Iron Conical Hats and took up defensive stances.
On the battlefields of Yan Province, facing the hardened elites of the Great Xia Court, Luo the Thirteenth Lang had led a vanguard of Death Warriors, charging enemy formations with unstoppable momentum.
How could Martial Artists from a sect of local bullies like the Iron Armor Sect ever comprehend the terrifying killing intent forged in such brutal Battle Arrays?
Back in Wangbei Town, when they fought, Chen Yuan hadn’t used his full strength, and neither had Luo the Thirteenth Lang.
Chen Yuan lifted his head and gave the Four Ghosts of Yin Mountain a grim smile.
The next moment, his Original Killing Intent surged. As the Blood Fiend Entering the Body commenced, a boundless, savage killing aura erupted, soaring to the heavens!
"Fall back!"
Qin Honglian’s face fell, and she let out a sharp cry.
This Level of killing intent, this utterly tyrannical Blood Fiend Power, instantly reminded Qin Honglian of a Demon Dao titan they had once encountered.
That person had merely revealed a fraction of his aura, and it had been enough to strip them of even the courage to fight back.
But now, it was too late to retreat.
A saber’s cry shook the heavens as a bloody light flashed from its sheath.
The very instant Qin Honglian and the other three heard the saber’s cry, the blade’s light was upon them!
In an instant, the Sword Momentum was as swift as a startled swan.
This strike from Chen Yuan was the true ultimate killing move of the Autumn Water Shocking Saber.
The Shocking Swan Slash, which perfectly displayed the might of a fast saber!
The saber’s cry reached their ears, but its light had already struck!
Han Gang roared, his body enveloped in Black and Red True Qi. He didn’t even have time to draw the Giant Sword from his back, instead forming a Fist Seal and hastily smashing it towards Chen Yuan.
A flash of Sword Aura, a spray of blood, and Han Gang’s entire right arm was cleanly severed by Chen Yuan’s strike.
But he only let out a muffled grunt, not retreating a single step. With his left arm, he drew the door-panel-wide Giant Sword and smashed it towards Chen Yuan!
The Blood Fiend power erupted. Chen Yuan’s sweeping Sword Momentum crashed against the Giant Sword, creating a deafening BOOM.
The slender Cyan Dragon Blood Drink was like a toothpick compared to Han Gang’s door-panel-wide Giant Sword.
Yet upon impact, the tyrannical Blood Fiend Power exploded outward, sending Han Gang flying.
Qin Honglian and the other two’s faces fell.
The third of the Yin Mountain Five Ghosts, ’Blood Hulv’ Han Gang, possessed Innate Divine Strength and had also cultivated a Horizontal Training Technique.
It could be said that his attainments in the Horizontal Training of Hard Skills even surpassed those of an Iron Armor Sect Martial Artist of the same level, and he also possessed boundless strength.
And yet, before Chen Yuan, his vaunted Hard Skill was like paper. In a single exchange, his arm was severed, a single clash sent him flying, and even his strength was no match for his opponent’s.
Blood Fiend aura soared from Chen Yuan’s body. His eyes were crimson, and his gaze as he looked at the four was like a predator watching its prey.
After cultivating the Inner Vision God Observation Method and gaining preliminary control over the Blood Fiend Power, Chen Yuan had not yet fought anyone with his full strength.
Therefore, he didn’t actually have a clear understanding of his own combat limits.
Now these four had delivered themselves to his doorstep, and each specialized in a different area.
To Chen Yuan, they were the perfect training dummies!
