Amidst the mob, a slightly overweight, decently suited middle-aged man—likely the school principal—was hollering at the top of his lungs. His voice was ragged, dripping with commands and curses as he tried to leverage his worldly authority to force the crowd—mostly school staff—to back off and give him the front-row spot.

“Back off! All of you, back off!”

“Get out of my way, you lowly insects!”

At a time like this, however, secular authority was compressed to absolute zero. Nobody gave a damn about him; no one was listening. His bloated frame was entirely swallowed by the tide of bodies, shoved around until he could barely keep his footing.

Finally, under the crushing weight of countless gazes—a toxic brew of envy, jealousy, and fanaticism—the Headless Angel slowly extended its hand.

Or rather, to be exact, the supple, pristine white ribbons coiled around its body cascaded down on their own, moving as if alive. The ribbons danced in the air, searching, selecting.

They wrapped around a woman. A female teacher who had kept her head down from the start, kneeling quietly among the crowd, praying in silence.

Among the sea of male staff, she was one of the few women. Dressed in a modest dark skirt suit and glasses, she looked around twenty-five, exuding a gentle aura. The moment those pure white ribbons grazed and tangled around her, she was lifted by an invisible force.

As if sensing something, she slowly raised her face. It was a gentle, delicate face, now streaked with tears, her eyes brimming with an ineffable wave of emotion.

The moment she was chosen by the Angel, the crowd’s cacophony abruptly morphed. The desperate pleading for the Angel’s selection shifted into a unified chorus of praise.

The Angel’s choice was never wrong. It had selected the universally acknowledged, best-natured female teacher in the entire school. She was one of the rare few who had clawed her way through countless obstacles as a woman to earn her tenure. Strong-willed, persevering, kind to others, and beloved by both peers and students. She sought neither fame nor profit, pouring her heart entirely into the kids...

Right now, those pristine ribbons seemed to embody that flawless virtue, winding tighter and thicker around her under the burning, yearning stares of the masses.

The Angel began to carry her skyward. As she was hoisted higher and higher, the details the ordinary folks on the ground could make out grew blurrier.

Only Pandora, and the handful of Rank-3s present, could rely on their extraordinary vision to clearly see the details as she ascended further.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

The pure white ribbons bound her tightly, from shoulders to waist, down to her legs. Even though she was visibly uncomfortable, her breathing turning ragged, the incredibly virtuous teacher maintained her restraint and submission.

The look on her face actually grew more devout. The closer she got to that massive, holy, fanatically worshipped Pure-White Silhouette, the more devout she became, as if she were rushing toward a sacred metamorphosis.

However... the moment the Angel actually brought her before the colossal Pure-White Silhouette, close enough to nearly touch that smooth, featureless white surface—things changed.

“Aaaaaaaaaah—!!!!”

A blood-curdling, pitch-shifting shriek of absolute, terrified agony erupted from that petite frame! It was the absolute limit of what her lungs and vocal cords could push out.

Yet, her limit was nowhere near enough for the rabidly praising crowd on the ground to hear. The high-altitude winds effortlessly swallowed that feeble sound. Almost no one could hear her horrifying, utterly desperate wails.

And even fewer could see—like the Rank-3s on the rooftop with their supernatural vision—the devotion on that gentle face shattering into pieces in an instant. After the fanaticism fractured, what emerged on the young teacher’s face was an utterly collapsed despair. And a fear so profound it seemed ready to tear her soul to shreds...

What did she see? What did she experience?

No one knew. Even the Rank-3s couldn’t answer that. Because the very next second after she let out that agonizing scream—her silhouette vanished. Like a drop of ink falling into clear water, instantly diffusing. Absorbed into the body of that colossal, holy Pure-White Silhouette.

......

“That Humanoid...” Ophelia Sterling frowned, her gaze fixed on the spot where the giant Pure-White Silhouette had faded. She seemed to be wrestling with her vocabulary, searching for an accurate description. “Doesn’t seem to be a creature? It’s more like...”

Pandora filled in the blank for her: “A Gateway.”

“Exactly,” Poppy took the baton, her expression grave. “Like a gateway to heaven. Categorizing it among ‘Anomalies,’ this has to be a highly specialized type.”

The three of them, plus Elsa standing behind Pandora, were the only four who had clearly seen exactly what just went down. The teacher’s disappearance—rather than being consumed—looked far more like she had followed that Headless ‘Usher Angel’ through some sort of gateway. And her instantaneous breakdown and despair right before the end was highly likely tied to whatever scene she witnessed past that Pure-White Silhouette gateway...

“Shame we can’t see what’s inside from down here,” Ophelia said icily, withdrawing her gaze.

For no other reason than the fact that, right after the Headless Winged Angel ushered the teacher inside, the colossal Pure-White Silhouette in the sky was rapidly shrinking and fading, ultimately vanishing into the azure canopy as if it had never existed. Staring any longer was pointless.

Even that vast, holy hymn had died down to a halt right at that moment. Down on the campus, the mob on the athletic field gradually calmed. It was as if they were waking from a collective bout of sleepwalking; they looked around blankly, staring at each other with tear-stained faces, the fanaticism completely drained from their eyes.

Order began to organically, slowly restore itself. But to say the so-called “Gateway to Heaven” Anomaly left zero impact after it vanished... that wouldn’t be entirely true.

At the very least, Pandora and the others noticed the... stillness lingering over the crowd once the frenzy faded.

It wasn’t a normal calm. It was an eerie, unnatural stillness, as if every intense emotion had been surgically extracted from their psyches. Eyes void, movements mechanical, their murmurs of conversation dropping to whisper-level volumes. It seemed they had temporarily lost the capacity to feel anything strongly at all.
