Chapter 1465: The Effort
Erend had honestly expected too much from this attempt. A part of him had hoped that he would be able to control the Black Rage during his very first meditation session. He needed to master it as quickly as possible before it endangered the people around him, and deep down, he had foolishly wished that he could simply confront it once and succeed immediately.
But that expectation had clearly been unrealistic.
There was no way something this powerful could be mastered in an instant, even if it was ultimately a part of himself.
Erend looked toward Velrion and gave him a small smile.
"Thank you," he said sincerely. "You’ve helped me a lot. And thank you as well, Sky Anchor. Without you, I might’ve gone berserk just now."
The Sky Anchor’s gentle voice echoed inside his mind a moment later.
"I merely suppressed it temporarily. The only person who can truly stop the Black Rage is yourself. In the end, it is you who must control your own power."
"Is that so?" Erend murmured.
He fell silent for a moment as he pondered her words. Perhaps he was slowly beginning to understand what kind of path he needed to take.
"Wait a little longer," Velrion said while returning his attention to the ritual materials. "The artifact I’m creating should suppress your rage for a considerable amount of time."
Velrion immediately began working once more. He arranged the remaining materials inside the ritual formation before imbuing them with his Magic power. The spirit he had summoned floated beside him and continuously poured its spiritual energy into the ritual. The herbs gradually dissolved into particles of light while the diamond-shaped crystal absorbed both the Sky Anchor’s energy and Velrion’s Magic. Several ancient runes slowly formed in the air before compressing themselves into a single object.
Meanwhile, Erend turned his attention back toward the Sky Anchor.
"Can you completely free yourself from the Void Architect now?" he asked.
"Yes," the Sky Anchor replied almost immediately.
Although she possessed no physical face, Erend somehow felt the smile of happiness and warmth within her voice.
"The Five Archmages successfully rewrote my purpose. I now exist to protect this world rather than destroy it. The Void Architect has also become significantly weaker because of everything you all had done. He can no longer influence me."
Erend smiled faintly. "That’s good to hear."
This entire journey had been worth it.
Despite everything they had endured, they had ultimately succeeded in saving the Sky Anchor. What had once been one of the Void Architect’s creations designed to bring destruction had now become a source of life and protection for the world.
Then, another thought entered his mind.
There were still two other creations of the Void Architect that remained missing.
Those two would most likely become major problems in the future.
Erend looked up at the massive white crystal monolith and briefly wondered whether he should ask about her two siblings. However, he decided that could wait for another day. Right now, controlling the Black Rage was far more important.
After several more minutes, Velrion finally completed the artifact.
He walked toward Erend while holding a simple silver pendant attached to a black cord. The pendant itself was a small circular piece of polished crystal no larger than a coin. Faint white light flowed quietly beneath its surface, giving it an elegant yet unassuming appearance. It looked more like an ordinary accessory than a powerful Magical artifact.
Velrion handed it over carefully.
"This artifact will suppress your rage and stabilize your emotions," he explained. "However, it isn’t absolute. You must still control the Black Rage with your own will. I created it using the Sky Anchor’s power, so it should be effective enough to assist you."
Erend accepted the pendant and immediately felt a gentle stream of benevolent energy flowing into his body. The energy felt warm and calming, subtly easing the lingering restlessness inside his heart.
"Thank you," Erend said as he stored the artifact inside his pocket. "I’ll keep it with me."
"That’s the least I can do for you," Velrion replied quietly.
Despite his words, Erend could hear the regret hidden within his voice. The Archmage clearly wished he could do more to help the man who had saved Leonora and the Sky Anchor.
Erend lightly patted Velrion’s shoulder.
"Don’t look so gloomy," he said with a smile. "You’ve already done more than enough."
Velrion simply nodded in response.
Soon afterward, the two of them decided to leave the underground chamber. Before they departed, the Sky Anchor’s gentle voice echoed inside their minds one last time.
"Good luck, Erend. I believe you’ll overcome this."
Erend smiled and silently thanked her before walking out of the chamber alongside Velrion.
—
Erend and Velrion returned to the surface shortly afterward. Although the Black Rage remained a problem he had yet to solve, Erend felt much better than before. The anxiety lingering inside his heart had not completely disappeared, but at least now he knew there were ways to suppress it. More importantly, he was no longer blindly walking toward an unknown danger. He had finally taken his first step toward mastering it.
"I’ll be returning to my tower now," Velrion said as they walked through the palace corridor. "You’re free to explore the palace or visit the Grand Library if you’d like."
Erend nodded. "Alright."
Velrion stopped walking for a moment before looking at him with a slightly apologetic expression.
"I can only hope for the best, Erend. I’ve done everything I can, but this matter is beyond my capabilities."
Erend smiled faintly. "I told you already. You’ve done more than enough."
Velrion gave him one final nod before turning toward another corridor that led to his tower.
Meanwhile, Erend remained standing in silence for several moments.
With everything finally settling down, another thought suddenly entered his mind.
There was someone he had been thinking about.
Someone he realized he had missed far more than he expected.
He had spent the past several days fighting Nyssara, confronting the Black Rage, and worrying about countless problems that threatened the world. Only now, after everything was over, did he finally have the chance to think about her.
Aurdis. He wondered how she was doing.
A faint smile appeared on his face before he changed directions and began walking back toward the garden. Somehow, after everything he had experienced, seeing her was the one thing he wanted most right now.
"I wonder how you’ve been, Aurdis?"
