Chapter 39: Chapter39-The Role of the Fig

Owen understood the importance of staying ahead. This was precisely why he had such high expectations for the upcoming annual sacrificial ceremony.

If he could extend his lead once again, the gap between him and other gods would widen, making it even harder for them to catch up.

From refining Infernal Artifacts to completing missions ahead of others, he had seized every possible advantage.

One thing that particularly caught Owen's attention was the quality of sacrificial offerings. Although sacrificial items couldn't be directly linked to a god, boosting the strength of his devotees would inevitably result in stronger offerings.

After the hundredfold amplification, his offerings would become priceless treasures, coveted by every god.

For now, he needed to observe Thomas's next actions. With his greatly enhanced strength, what path would he take?

Owen couldn't intervene too much, as any direct involvement would invalidate the sacrificial offerings—turning a massive profit into a total loss.

Tier-5 Phase Mission Unlocked

"Path to Godhood, Tier-5 Phase Mission Completed. Tier-6 Phase Mission Unlocked."

Owen quickly checked the new mission details.

Mission Objective:

"You have slain two spellbeasts with powerful backgrounds. Their factions have now set their sights on you. At this time, gods are weak, and humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. You must step forward and restore the gods' lost prestige!"

Current Task: Eliminate five Tier-5 Spellbeasts.

Owen narrowed his eyes.

Five Tier-5 Spellbeasts?

This was no small challenge.

Back when he was a 1 Star Ancient God, he needed to use multiple god skills just to compete with a Tier-5 spellbeast.

Now that he had advanced to 1 Star Peak Ancient God, he could fight a Tier-5 spellbeast within his domain.

However, fighting five at once would require significant divine point expenditure.

At this stage, most gods hadn't even reached 1 Star Ancient God, meaning this mission was impossible for them to complete.

This mission was the turning point—a milestone where gods would start to pull ahead of one another.

Looking at the mission rewards, Owen smirked.

Mission Rewards:

20 sets of Level-2 Ice Crystal Armor5 sets of Ferocious Beast Armor3 Mid-Tier Awakening Scrolls70 divine points

"Excellent. The divine path shall flourish under my rule!"

Owen's eyes gleamed.

For him, slaying five Tier-5 spellbeasts wasn't difficult.

He didn't even need to personally take action—Thomas and his subordinates could handle it.

"Armor rewards... Looks like preparations for the Divine War have begun."

Owen murmured to himself.

For gods, Divine War was inevitable. It was the driving force behind their constant need to improve.

No one wanted to die.

Once the Divine War began, no god could remain uninvolved. Every time the war erupted, it was a battle to the death—winners took everything, losers lost everything.

One mistake meant total annihilation.

Owen had unfinished business—he still needed to find the mastermind behind his past misfortunes and exact revenge. He wasn't going to die here.

Many other gods had the same mindset. They had just ascended to divinity—they would rather die fighting than become subjugated servants.

"I wonder how far the other gods have progressed..."

Curious, Owen opened the Divine Chat Interface.

Instantly, an overwhelming flood of messages scrolled across the screen.

Divine Chat Interface

[Damn it! What kind of world is this? A goat shaking her fat ass at me, trying to seduce me! A succubus—this is basically a succubus! I'm a god! How could I be tempted? But, well... I won't lie, that was some good temptation.]

[Still playing around? I'm already a 1 Star Ancient God! The feeling of power is incredible. Once Divine War begins, who's going to stop me?]

[Exactly! Buying Beginner Blessing Scrolls for 5 divine points each! I'll take as many as you've got!]

[Terrible luck. These spellbeasts are too strong. My village got massacred, and I wasn't strong enough to stop it. Absolutely miserable.]

[You think that's bad? That guy who sold Infernal Artifacts for 20 divine points—after I bought one and advanced, I realized I could craft them myself! He scammed me for 10 divine points! If I find out who he is, he's dead!]

[Scammed? That guy's a legend. He started selling Infernal Artifacts when we were still nameless gods. He's been ahead of us for ages. You think he didn't already make a fortune?]

[He's probably already a 1 Star Peak Ancient God by now.]

[I just barely became a 1 Star Ancient God, and he's already at 1 Star Peak? Is this guy cheating?!]

The chat was buzzing with discussions—some gods were boasting, while others were praising stronger gods.

Owen carefully analyzed their conversations.

It seemed that many gods had finally reached 1 Star Ancient God.

While he had been growing rapidly, they had also been finding ways to advance.

As for the one god complaining about being scammed... Owen ignored him.

He had worked hard crafting Infernal Artifacts—how was it his fault people were willing to pay for them?

Just as Owen was about to close the chat, a private message notification popped up.

"Mary the Goddess?"

Owen raised an eyebrow in surprise.

He had previously traded with Mary, purchasing Prismatic Succulents from her.

Had she found new resources to sell?

Mary:

"Are you interested in figs?"

Owen:

"Figs?"

Owen muttered to himself.

He was indeed intrigued.

Resources that could enhance an awakener's strength were rare.

More importantly, figs had a special property—they accelerated the growth of other medicinal plants.

Prismatic Succulents, for example, took a long time to mature. However, with fig pollen, their growth rate would drastically increase.

Without enhancement, a Prismatic Succulent might take a year to mature.

But with fig pollen, it could mature in just six months.

Mary continued her pitch.

"Figs are rare and invaluable. They can rapidly mature Prismatic Succulents and enhance their quality significantly. Once upgraded, they'll provide far greater benefits to awakeners compared to standard Prismatic Succulents."

Owen smirked.

"Name your price."

Mary didn't hesitate.

"30 divine points."

Owen frowned.

"Too expensive."

Unlike Prismatic Succulents, figs were consumables. Once used, they wouldn't regenerate—making them a one-time investment.

Mary adjusted her offer.

"Since we've traded before, I'll give you a friendship discount—28 divine points."

Owen countered.

"20 divine points."

He knew figs were hard to sell. Other gods might be interested, but the price would scare most of them away.

And 30 divine points was outrageous. Even 28 was too much.

He refused to be ripped off.

"Too low—25 divine points at the very least."

"21 divine points. That's my final offer."

After some back-and-forth, they finally settled on 25 divine points.

A price both found acceptable, and the deal was quickly finalized.

Owen glanced at the newly acquired fig in his hand, a curious glint in his eyes.
