Chapter 28: Chapter28-Infernal Scribe

Cold moonlight cascaded down.

Owen gazed at Mia, who had arrived before the temple, and asked indifferently:

"What is it?"

Mia respectfully bowed and replied:

"Great Deus Initium, among the people Thomas brought back, two are herb hunters from Black Iron with unclear intentions. Should we take them down immediately?"

Since becoming an Infernal Envoy under Owen, she had diligently patrolled the village.

During the recent worship ceremony, she had noticed the two, but out of concern for public reaction, she chose to ask Deus Initium's opinion privately at night when no one was around.

"No need to act for now."

Owen spoke indifferently.

He had already discerned that those two were not ordinary. After all, herb hunters had extensive connections, far beyond those of common villagers.

They even had ties to major factions within Black Iron.

But so what?

After witnessing divine miracles, they would gradually become his devotees and might even help spread his faith within Black Iron.

Although the forces within Black Iron would undoubtedly be skeptical and unlikely to believe that a true deity existed in this realm, they would at least serve as vanguards.

"A deity... I wonder how far my domain extends before encountering another deity."

Owen narrowed his eyes.

Based on his previous assumptions, another deity should not be too far away.

Yet, according to Thomas and the others' investigations, there were no rumors or traces of other deities nearby.

Clearly, this realm was vast, and deities were spread out with great distances between them. Short-term encounters were unlikely.

Then, Owen's gaze fell back on Mia.

Although she was young, she had high emotional intelligence and was meticulous in her actions. She was indeed worth cultivating.

It was time to formally bestow her divine office.

"Mia, from this day forth, you shall hold the title of Infernal Scribe under my name, governing all ghosts within Hell and my domain!"

As Owen spoke, divine ordination was initiated. Ten divine points surged out of him in radiant brilliance, transforming into a magnificent black-gold robe that draped over Mia.

The light on the black-gold robe moved like a living entity, extending onto Mia's skeletal frame. The hellfire burning within her suddenly flared up violently!

Her skeletal structure became even more grotesque and fearsome, spikes protruding, while hellfire spread to the ground beneath her, leaving blackened scorch marks.

Compared to her previous form as an Infernal Envoy, her power had more than doubled, and an aura of infernal majesty now surrounded her.

"And I grant you a Hell's Scythe!"

With a wave of his hand, Owen conjured a long, sleek black scythe, exuding an eerie, swirling nether energy, appearing in Mia's hands.

The hellfire surging within her intensified under the stimulation of the nether energy, burning even fiercer, like a fire consuming oil.

Not long after, Mia evolved from a tier-2 Infernal Envoy into a ghost comparable to a tier-3 Awakener, now bearing the formidable infernal authority of an Infernal Scribe!

Feeling the tremendous transformation within her soul, Mia was overwhelmed with gratitude and immediately bowed respectfully:

"Thank you, Deus Initium, for your divine gift!"

The power bestowed by Deus Initium was far greater than anything she had ever experienced before. If her past self were to stand before her now, she was absolutely confident that she could erase that version of herself with a single strike!

As Mia ascended to Infernal Scribe, ghosts within Hell beneath the Divine Space looked on with envious eyes.

Previously, the difference between Mia and them had not been great, but now, she had become ten times stronger!

"Edgardo!"

"From this moment forth, I bestow upon you the divine office of Infernal Judge. Assist Mia in governing the ghosts and managing Hell!"

Owen's gaze fell upon Edgardo.

Edgardo had once been a long-lived elder of Annasi, but a month ago, he reached the end of his lifespan. His soul had been brought back by Mia, transforming him into a ghost.

As Owen's commanding voice descended from the Divine Space, ten divine points, like golden orbs of light, rained down and merged into Edgardo's being.

The hellfire within him surged upward, skyrocketing him from a mere tier-1 ghost to an advanced tier-2 ghost.

Simultaneously, a book materialized in his hands, filled with records of all ghosts under his jurisdiction.

Infernal Judge!

Edgardo glanced at the book in his hands, then gazed devoutly towards the Divine Space above.

Though he saw only mist, in his heart, the awe-inspiring image of Deus Initium had already formed.

Beside him, Ethan felt a slight sense of loss. He was Mia's brother and among the first ghosts.

Now, Mia had gained Deus Initium's favor and had ascended to Infernal Scribe.

Even Edgardo had earned a divine title, becoming Infernal Judge.

It must be that he had not done well enough!

He swore to himself that he would work even harder for Deus Initium in the future!

In Black Iron.

Inside a lavishly decorated hall, a rather plump herb tycoon indulged himself in extravagant feasting, his mouth greasy with meat, a stark contrast to the frail man kneeling before him.

As the frail man spoke, the herb tycoon, who had been entirely focused on eating, suddenly froze, his pupils contracting sharply. His eating slowed as he asked in shock:

"A deity?!"

"A deity has appeared in Annasi?!"

This renowned herb tycoon of Black Iron stared at Jackson in disbelief.

He wondered if this man had gone insane after venturing into the Fallen Lands.

How could something so absurd be true?!

In this world, there were no deities!

Only spellbeasts and countless eerie creatures!

The so-called deity Jackson spoke of was undoubtedly a spellbeast or a disguised eldritch entity with the sole purpose of devouring people!

From what he knew, there was a self-proclaimed "mountain god" on a peak outside Black Iron, which was actually a colossal spellbeast. It deceived and threatened nearby villagers, coercing them into luring devotees of deities to be eaten.

Thinking of this, the herb tycoon took a sip of wine and smacked his lips:

"That deity you mentioned—how does it eat people?"

Jackson was momentarily stunned, then hurriedly shook his head:

"Eat people? Respected Fox, he truly is a deity, not a disguised spellbeast!"

"Jackson, you're such a fool. There are no deities in this world! It's all spellbeasts in disguise, looking for a meal!"

Seeing Fox's absolute disbelief, Jackson began to waver.

After all, he had traded with the herb tycoon for decades. This man had traveled extensively and engaged in both legitimate and illicit dealings.

If he was so adamant that deities did not exist, perhaps he was right.

After all, Jackson did not know much about Annasi and had only lived in the village for half a month.

Maybe the so-called deity really was a spellbeast, simply fattening them up before slaughtering them.

But then he hesitated.

If Deus Initium was truly a spellbeast, would a spellbeast grant Rich Soil? Would it provide them with superior medicinal seeds?

And possess the power to turn so many villagers into Awakeners?

The more he thought about it, the more his mind became a tangled mess.
