I prioritized finding a new place over selling the house. I did not set any standards for choosing one. The only condition was whether we could move in as quickly as possible, and I left everything else to Do Yehyun.
At first, Do Yehyun asked me this and that, but once he realized I was not going to make any proper decisions, he later set his own standards.
He did seem to be walking all over each place, carefully inspecting every corner, saying he would find a decent house in his own way, but I had no idea whether he was actually looking properly.
“Should we come again next time?”
“No. Finish it today.”
So we looked at six places in one day and chose the one that seemed the best among them. Of course, my decision was not really mixed into it.
In the end, the place Do Yehyun chose was an apartment a little distance away from our current house, and, by sheer coincidence, it was only a fifteen-minute walk from Im Haekyung’s home.
'I’ll make sure to go there by car every single time.'
I stared blankly at Do Yehyun as he turned on the sink faucet, then said to the realtor,
“Yes, he likes it.”
“Haha.... Yes, sir! Then let’s start with the contract.”
Since the place was empty anyway, the moving date was set quickly. On the day we signed the contract, I arranged the movers and move-in cleaning all at once, then, while I was at it, headed not home but to a nearby hotel.
After arriving at the hotel, I paid on-site for two rooms on the same floor, then went straight to a restaurant in the same building for a meal.
I left the menu choice to Do Yehyun as well and took out my phone.
Among the messages that had piled up over the past few days, I looked for the one I needed to answer first.
That day, I was emotionally worked up.
Still, my decision hasn’t changed. It’s not just about trust... the longer I stay around you, the more I feel like I’m becoming strange. It’s not simply that I dislike you.
There were too many things I pretended not to see while working with you. That was what didn’t fit me.
Joo Seowon.
There had been no proper contact from them, and then, a few hours ago, they had suddenly sent a message.
'I didn’t think one would come.'
I wrote a reply without hesitation.
Yeah, I understand.
I’m moving in a week.
I’ll leave the house empty until then, so use it comfortably?
If they combined the per-job pay I had given them and the money they had received from SH, it should be more than enough to find one place to live.
Soon, the read mark appeared, but no reply came back.
Do Yehyun had finished ordering on his own and was quietly staring at me. I put my phone down, looked at Do Yehyun, and smiled.
“Do you have something to say?”
“.......”
Do Yehyun chose his words carefully.
“Did things fall apart with Seowon?”
“Yeah.”
“To the point that you’re changing your home address?”
So he had somehow figured out the purpose of the move. This time too, I obediently agreed.
“Yeah.”
“Don’t you... need Seowon?”
“Well....”
Explaining everything that had happened then was extremely annoying, so I quickly conveyed only the important parts.
“I didn’t know it, but the trust was already broken. It wasn’t simply that a few things had gone wrong. We didn’t match from the beginning. Our ranges of acceptance were different.”
“Ranges of acceptance?”
“Moral ranges of acceptance.”
“.......”
“Anyway, the biggest reason I hired them was ‘information’... but if mutual trust gets disrupted like this, can I trust the information Seowon gives me?”
I was not saying I thought Joo Seowon would betray me and carry information somewhere else. Still, if...... if my actions truly crossed the standard of their own moral code, was there any guarantee Joo Seowon would not feed me false information for the sake of some private sanction?
'There isn’t.'
Even if they did not look it, they were fairly capable. Which meant that if they made up their mind to deceive me, it would be nothing.
The moment I knew they had lost their utility as an informant, Joo Seowon’s employment value dropped instantly. Of course, they had quit on their own before I could do anything.
I looked at Do Yehyun and added with a smile.
“Of course, it was their choice too?”
Just then, the food arrived at the table. I turned my gaze for a moment to the dishes being placed one after another on the table.
Not long after the meal began, I heard Do Yehyun’s answer.
“I understand.”
“.......”
“For you... that kind of ‘need’ comes a little more first....”
That kind of “need”?
I thought briefly about the emphasis in Do Yehyun’s words, then put some food onto his small plate and answered.
“Yeah.”
He calmly accepted the plate without saying anything else.

Since I planned to get rid of some of the furniture from the old place, I first had the essentials for daily life, including the bed, brought into the house. I still had to bring clothes and various belongings, but it looked more or less livable now.
After even the move was finished, I finally felt like I could start doing something in earnest. Of course, the things I needed to do had also conveniently come pouring in at just the right time.
I checked the messenger on my phone. In a group chat that did not seem °• N 𝑜 v 𝑒 l i g h t •° to particularly require any replies, announcements were coming up one after another.
← Haeseong Team 1
There is Gate support today. Awakened personnel available for support, please contact your team leader so the list can be submitted.
Support needed — 1 healing-type, 0 attack-type, at least 1 person drafted per team)
Please submit the attendee list for the August seminar.
Right...... just as Im Haekyung had said, I had finally ended up transferring to Haeseong.
The transfer was simpler than expected. I did not know whether it was because Im Haekyung had personally approved it, but the day I visited Haeseong, I was immediately assigned to a team.
Maybe because they had existing data, Do Yehyun became key personnel in an instant. Haeseong had quite a few healers too, but excluding Do Yehyun, there was only one healer who could enter Gates and self-heal.
Do Yehyun did not seem to particularly like Im Haekyung, but contrary to my expectations, once he moved his affiliation to Haeseong, he adapted quickly.
'Adapted?'
To be precise, it was not that he talked to other people much. He just acted no differently at SH or Haeseong. If you did not bother with sociability, adapting anywhere was easy. The fact that other people had a hard time was not really my problem.
And I had been assigned to a team too, but....
← Seok Jiwon
Seok Jiwon
I’m the Team 1 leader.
Long time no see.
'Can I block my team leader?'
I thought about it for a moment, then wrote a half-assed reply.
Yes.
A reply came back instantly. Since it was nothing particularly useful, instead of answering, I deleted all the messages and put my phone down.
Right. Transferring to Haeseong was a fixed course anyway.
But if there were problems, one was that Seok Jiwon, who owned a share of that bullshit scandal between Im Haekyung and me, was my team leader, and the other was that I...... had been assigned as attack-type.
'Are they insane?'
Immediately after the team assignment, I complained to Haeseong’s final decision-maker, but no reply came back for quite a while.
And the reply that eventually arrived was like this.
You’ve been to an S-rank Dungeon twice, so how can I put you in appraisal-type? Even if I’m generous, you’d be defense-type. And there are many appraisers better than you, Jehyun, so no.
What?
I immediately called them.
— Jehyun.
“I was an appraiser at SH too, so this is a little difficult.”
— You’re a dopamine addict anyway, so just enjoy this much thrill.
“Guess who put me in an S-rank Dungeon twice?”
— One time, you followed obediently, didn’t you? Why are you blaming me for the fact that you were short on dopamine then? Mm, and if you keep speaking casually, I’m going to have a hard time too. I’m still your superior now, Jehyun.
Busy noise came from Im Haekyung’s side. I paused briefly after hearing their words.
“I was short on dopamine?”
— There’s no way you’d listen to me properly, so if you’re being obedient, the problem is on your side. Mm, wait... can you give that to me later? Yes, I’m on the phone right now. Ah, it’s just... just a personal call.
What?
Since I had nothing more to say anyway, I was about to hang up when Im Haekyung’s voice came through.
— Enough. Come to work. Normally, we don’t let anyone enter Gates for the first week after joining. Besides, public opinion improved because you cleared an S-rank Gate a few days ago, so you should show your face at a time like this.
“When I looked it up, it hadn’t improved that much.”
— Of course not. With the way you usually talk, your image can’t be renewed in an instant. Even if you’re angry, don’t curse at reporters.
“I just told them to move?”
— Don’t even say things like that.
With those words, the ear I had the phone pressed to went muffled again. Im Haekyung had probably covered the microphone to talk to someone on their side.
'Ah.'
Come to think of it, I had the main thing to bring up.
“Guild Master.”
— .......
“Can I ask you for a favor?”
— No.
“Can you do that Mental Domination thing from back then one more time? I need to find something out.”
Im Haekyung seemed to grasp the context from my words alone. After being quiet for a moment, they soon answered obediently.
— I’ll do that. There’s something I want to see too.
Something they wanted to see....
Well, it was not surprising, since their goal was probably to relieve their dopamine in moderation through me too.
Soon, Im Haekyung continued.
— Then come to work first, won’t you? You should already know your team leader, so go adjust a little. Or make people adjust to you, Jehyun.
“Do I have to work at the company too?”
I did not think they had hired me to work in the first place.
'Fuck, isn’t it enough if I just show up? What work too?'
Then a faint laugh came from the other side, followed by Im Haekyung’s voice.
— Gayeong, can you draft Jehyun into Team 1 today and register him on the Gate entry list? Ah, it doesn’t matter that it hasn’t been a week. He was always a talented person, yes. Tell them I approved it.
This bastard, seriously.
— Have a good trip.
Then the call cut off.
I looked blankly at the phone screen, then immediately reopened Seok Jiwon’s messenger and contacted Jiwon out of nowhere.
Can I enter a Gate today?
The reply came back right away.
Seok Jiwon
Huh? You haven’t even been transferred for long, so why?
I calmly wrote back.
I don’t know. The Guild Master told me to.
Maybe I hurt his feelings....
After a moment, the reply came in one word.
Seok Jiwon
Whoa.
Looking at that one word, I cheerfully gathered my artifacts. Right, it was about time I entered some easy-ass Gate and milked it a little.
I did not particularly like that unfortunate rumor floating around, but, well...... there were some things in this world that simply could not be helped!
