Chapter 438: Chapter 421: The Soy Sauce Squad
Regardless of their past differences in status, everyone was now at least acquainted.
From Bu Qingyun, they learned that while the Ten Great Sects were powerful, that was just what was on the surface. Organizations like the Immortal Commerce appeared to be mere merchant guilds, but in reality, they were the truly terrifying ones. They possessed vast networks of connections, could leverage intelligence to play all sides, and hired desperate Cultivators as enforcers. They were not to be underestimated. Besides, for any merchant guild to grow to such a scale, it was guaranteed to have a powerful faction backing it.
Only by venturing into the outside world did one realize just how insignificant they once were.
Wang Meng actually had a strong desire to contend for supremacy here with Zhang Xiaopang and the others, but there was no such opportunity. With their current strength, if they couldn’t reach Minor Perfection, they would have no chance to develop here at all.
While making progress himself, Wang Meng hadn’t forgotten his brothers from the Holy Hall. However, Master Wang wasn’t omnipotent. He had wanted to get Zhang Xiaopang and the others into the Cultivation Academy, but judging from Old Demon Lv’s attitude, while people might bend the rules a little as a favor, they couldn’t go too far. After all, the rules of the Star Alliance had to be respected, at least on the surface. Acting with complete disregard for them would upset the balance.
Master Wang could only give up on the idea. In truth, Yang Ying and the others’ Cultivation was certainly not bad; they just lacked this kind of opportunity.
The opportunities of Cultivation came from the vast world outside, where danger and fortune coexisted.
Wang Meng and the others followed Lu Chenfeng and were teleported to an unknown world.
The sky in this world was dim, giving the feeling that it was about to fall. The air was filled with a raging wind that carried a corrosive sensation. The ground was covered in cracks. Although there was vegetation, it was all on the verge of death, yet somehow still clinging to life.
Wang Meng and the others had already been warned. Their mission here was simply to observe and broaden their horizons. They were not to act rashly, and especially not to leave the group, or else not even the gods could save them.
Fan Hong suddenly grabbed Wang Meng’s hand, gripping it tightly and startling him.
"Mengzi, I’m nervous!"
Fan Hong really was nervous. His palms were sweaty, and his face was flushed red.
Nearby, Hann Yun couldn’t help but show a mocking smile. Song Yifan, however, just chuckled. "It’s fine. We’re just here to watch the show and gain some experience. It won’t be our turn to fight."
Surprisingly, Song Yifan’s reassurance was more effective than Wang Meng’s hand. Fan Xiaoniao took a deep breath and let go of Wang Meng. "Alright, I’ll just be a promising spectator!"
Wang Meng, on the other hand, was sensing this wondrous space. This was a Primordial Space, possibly a place where Primordial Cultivators once practiced, or perhaps a Small Thousand Realm from the Primordial Era.
Small Thousand Realms had lives of their own; they were born and they were destroyed. Some were on a path to prosperity, while others were headed toward decay.
The place before them had surely been glorious once, but at this moment, it was filled with desolation.
However, places like this held a great allure for Cultivators. Although they were unsuitable for cultivation and survival, the Magical Artifacts or Secret Techniques left behind by Primordial Cultivators were what modern Cultivators found most intriguing.
Lu Chenfeng, Yun Potian, Mu Jiuling, and Fan Ru walked at the very front, like four great mountains.
This Primordial World was somewhat detrimental to a Cultivator’s life force. Those at the Minor Perfection realm, like Wang Meng and the others, would be harmed. However, the four leaders formed a barrier that blocked this corrosive effect.
Bu Qingyun, Hann Yun, and Yi Fan were observing their surroundings with rapt attention, especially the techniques of the four leaders up ahead. Although they hadn’t yet reached that level, they could now understand what they were seeing. A master’s comprehension and application of Magic represented the Dao they had realized, and observing it was immensely helpful.
As the Sect Leader of one of the Ten Great Sects, Lu Chenfeng’s strength was indeed extraordinary. The occasional bolts of void lightning that appeared were all blocked by him.
Fan Ru, Yun Potian, and Mu Jiuling dealt with the few stray attacks that got through, seemingly conserving their strength.
In a place like this, wasting energy was taboo. Every action had to be layered according to priority. The four of them, Lu Chenfeng included, were currently top-tier figures, but even they had reached this point step by step. Their combat style contained an instinctive sense of order.
And all of this was experience.
Suddenly, Lu Chenfeng stopped. A dozen or so meters away, the ground abruptly collapsed. A yellow light shot into the sky, and a colossal, earth-yellow, rust-covered behemoth slowly emerged from within the light.
Lu Chenfeng smiled faintly. "A Guardian Puppet. It seems no one has been here before. Our luck is good."
Yun Potian smiled. "I’ll take care of this one."
With that, he took a step forward, leaving the formation the four had created.
At that moment, the Guardian Puppet on the other side fully revealed itself. It stood about a dozen meters tall, its body tattered and covered in patches. At its core was an array formation covered in Talismans, and its key joints were inlaid with massive Crystal Stones.
The giant’s eyes opened, emitting a brilliant light that seemed almost alive.
ROAR—
The metallic roar shook the heavens and the earth. Fan Hong’s vision blurred, and it felt as though his internal organs were about to leap out of his body.
Wang Meng placed a hand on Fan Hong’s shoulder, and the roaring sound became less intense. Fan Hong looked at the others. Bu Qingyun seemed completely unaffected. A faint white light glowed around Song Yifan. Yi Fan and Hann Yun were also unfazed, merely forming a Spell with their hands to resist it.
Sonic attacks were also a type of Magic. These individuals came from renowned Major Sects, and their training in all aspects of Combat Magic was indeed comprehensive, leaving them with no obvious weaknesses. This was the result of being nurtured by a great power.
Fan Hong felt a wave of shame. He felt that the old man really shouldn’t have brought him to a place like this. With his level of strength, he was only fit to stay at the Cultivation Academy.
The giant’s roar did not stop; instead, it grew fiercer, surging toward the sky. The ground shook, and the unstable tears in the air became more severe, yet the four Sect Leaders showed no intention of intervening.
For them, exploration was one goal, but an equally important aspect was learning. After several millennia, or perhaps even longer, the fact that this puppet still possessed such power naturally piqued everyone’s interest.
Yun Potian faced the impact head-on, his hair flying wildly, but his eyes revealed only curiosity. He also wanted to see what this puppet was capable of.
Although Fan Hong had Wang Meng’s help, his face was still somewhat pale. Another’s help was ultimately secondary; what mattered most was one’s own Cultivation, and his was simply too poor.
Nearby, Hann Yun frowned. If it weren’t for Fan Ru’s presence, he wouldn’t have been able to resist making a few sarcastic remarks. As it was, his eyes were filled with an expression that screamed "useless."
Fan Hong wasn’t a very confrontational person, but everyone has their pride. After accepting Fan Ru and his own identity, he had never used his status to show off or bully others, yet now he was being looked down upon because of it.
A wave of depression washed over him.
"Fan Xiaoniao, in this world, the only person who can look down on you is yourself. You haven’t even reached Minor Perfection yet, so the real test hasn’t even begun. Senior Fan Ru must have his reasons for bringing you here this time. If you just wallow in self-pity, that’s what will truly make people despise you!"
Wang Meng sent via voice transmission.
Fan Hong still just smiled bitterly. "A piece of trash like me..."
"No one is born strong. Every person who comes into this world is bound to have their own talent. With a Natural Life Mark Second Layer, I should have lived and died a mortal, but here I am, standing right in front of you!"
"But I’m not you..." Fan Hong was still dejected. Not everyone had Wang Meng’s kind of ruthless drive.
Fan Hong just kept shaking his head. Wang Meng was helpless. ’Tough love doesn’t work on everyone, it seems.’
Just then, seeing that its roars were ineffective, the giant slammed its fists into the ground. A white light erupted from the earth and shot straight toward Yun Potian.
Yun Potian smiled, took a step forward, and stomped down hard on the white light.
BOOM...
The ground exploded into a shower of rubble as violent Elemental Qi burst forth. Yun Potian had already appeared in front of the giant. Who would have thought that this tall, clumsy, and even tattered giant could throw a lightning-fast punch at Sect Leader Yun?
Absolutely top-tier Mechanical Art. Its arm didn’t even twist—a no-blind-spot attack.
BOOM...
Yun Potian was also keen to test the puppet’s strength, and he met the attack with a punch of his own.
Yun Potian’s figure wavered, but the giant only staggered slightly as well.
It could actually match a Great Perfection master blow for blow.
Yun Potian moved again, appearing behind the puppet like a bolt of lightning. But then, the puppet’s head swiveled directly around to face him, its arms twisting around as well. It brought its fists together, clapping them right where Yun Potian was.
It solidly executed a pincer attack.
BOOM...
Yun Potian was hit.
Fan Hong couldn’t help but gasp, "Oh no!"
"If you don’t know what you’re talking about, then shut up! How could a mere puppet possibly harm our Sect Leader!"
Hann Yun said coldly.
Sure enough, Yun Potian hadn’t been hit. His hands had blocked the puppet’s own, and he launched himself into the air. He descended like a bolt of lightning, striking the puppet directly on the head.
BOOM...
The puppet staggered, and the Crystal Stones on its body flared with brilliant light. It suddenly lunged to grab the rebounding Yun Potian. But Yun Potian simply used the force to push off and descend again. BOOM... BOOM BOOM BOOM...
Four consecutive attacks all struck the giant puppet.
The massive puppet swayed. The light in its eyes flickered continuously as if it were struggling, but it eventually dimmed and went out.
Yun Potian smiled faintly, flew to the giant’s chest, and pressed down hard on the central Crystal Stone. The giant’s body abruptly shrank, finally turning into a palm-sized figurine.
"This puppet is quite powerful. Congratulations, Younger Brother Yun."
Lu Chenfeng said with a laugh.
"Haha, this Primordial Puppet is truly extraordinary. However, it’s clearly very old and can’t use its full power. If I take it to the Ghost Axe Divine Skill Sect or the Artifact Pavilion for repairs, it might be able to unleash its true potential."
Yun Potian was very satisfied with this puppet. It was a pretty good Magical Artifact.
"Haha, both of those places are run by butchers. Asking for their help won’t be cheap," Fan Ru chuckled.
"Haha, I imagine they’ll be interested in something from the Primordial Era. I should be able to get a discount."
Yun Potian smiled.
The younger cultivators behind them had also broadened their horizons. To think that a Primordial-era creation could be subdued like that was truly amazing.
"Let’s go. This is just the beginning."
Lu Chenfeng said, and the group continued forward. Perhaps sensing the intruders, the atmosphere of the Primordial Land grew even more oppressive.
Fan Hong was in bad shape, but Fan Ru acted as if he didn’t see, completely ignoring his plight. Wang Meng extended his Elemental Power and Spiritual Power to protect Fan Hong. This godforsaken place was simply too dangerous for someone like Fan Hong, who wasn’t even at Minor Perfection. (To be continued.
