Chapter 420: Brunhilde [Part 1]

First of all, there was a monster talking right now in front of me. And then it was growing even larger, easily swallowing the entire space with its shadows.

And those shadows, they seemed even deeper than normal. Making the darkness that surrounded us to grow thicker, and it clearly looked like the light was getting weaker here.

I inhaled and took a very heavy, helpless sigh.

Of course, this was not to say I was going to give up.

Or that I was going to call upon my precious villainesses. That would be so soft balls of me.

Instead, I fixed the Sentient Beast a glare.

"You think being overgrown is going to change anything? You’re even easier to defeat like this!"

The beast’s orange glow, like incandescent ancient flames, continued to observe me. Almost with a detached amusement that grew slowly attached.

The creature suddenly released a ferocious growl. The trees around me trembled, snow billowed from the ground and blew everywhere as though being smacked off by an invisible force.

Now, I was completely overwhelmed by such a creature but I was grinning. I was fairly confident I was not going to lose the fight. Not because I had all the cards needed.

But because winning seemed easier than losing.

I grinned smugly.

’That one definitely hit, I should put it down.’

The creature moved while I was yet consumed with my own awesomeness.

The moment the creature moved, it was disastrous.

Its terrible size, wasn’t just a fluke. The bastard pulled the trees with it.

The trees that grew in this forest were thin and tall. This caused them to gather around each other in clusters. It was like a bamboo forest if that made any sense. Of course, these trees were way thicker and fatter than bamboo sticks.

Several shards of them were shredded and went flying in a disastrous pattern as the beast broke into a furious and short race.

I had added fuel to the flames beneath my legs and in an instant shot myself off like a rocket, not knowing nor caring where I was going to land.

It seemed like I had managed to evade him with such furious speed. But behind me, was a tree that I was crashing right into.

Everything that happened then, happened in a flash of a second.

Something viciously fast, flew by and swept me off the path, saving me from the tree behind. The blur was instant and as soon as it had come, it had cleared.

The first thing I noticed was an annoying face, one I had tried to get rid of.

He smiled warmly.

"Oh goodness! I thought something had happened to you."

’He sounds worried?’

He really sounded like he was worried about me, this guy.

’He literally just met me! What the fuck is this obsession.’

Giving me a pitiful look, he said:

"Oh good gracious, you look so broken. Here, let me help with that."

I wanted to retort but his hand had moved quickly. He placed his cold palm on my neck and a warm feeling rushed out of it, filling me in whole.

It was strange. It certainly was Spirit Essence, but it was very different. It felt like the most pristine I had ever felt, something that shouldn’t be tainted.

Almost immediately, a sudden wave of relief followed the warmth. And as that wave settled across my entire body, some parts slowly registered again.

First was my neck, what had felt immovable was suddenly so easy to move again and I slowly straightened my neck.

I could also feel my legs again.

’Amazing!’

He healed me.

’Maybe he’s not so much of a bad guy after all.’

He continued to give me that warm smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

’Hell no way, no way I’m getting deceived. He definitely looks like a fraud.’

That smile was still frozen on his face and then I realized that I was far from the ground, my legs were in the air, I could feel one of his hands on my waist and the other one carefully cradling my neck.

I grimaced.

"Put me down. Now."

He slowly lowered me, one leg to the ground like a damn princess, then he stepped away. He gave me one last smile and turned away looking at the gigantic creature.

"We can’t deal with that alone friend... what do you say we deal with it together this time?"

He quickly added.

"Oh, right, I never got your name, what’s..."

I was sure, he would have quite the expression on his face because when he turned, I was long gone. I wouldn’t be there to see on his face how it felt to be jilted twice.

This time though. I never made it far.

And nothing slammed into me.

I just felt it, a tenebrous aura. Something that made a cold chill run down my spine. I came to a startling halt and froze, carefully trying to peer into the darkness.

The biting cold of the night grew even more frigid, this time with a weight that threatened to drag me down, to sink me.

There was something about the darkness that did not sit right with me.

Something powerful was there... that was what my guts, that had been honed over several battles with different strong individuals, were telling me.

That this was far stronger, fearsome than anything I had ever faced.

That I shouldn’t bother to cross swords with this one...

I needed to run.

’Run...’

Somehow, the entirety of my being seemed revolted by that feeling, the fear that overwhelmed me and for an instant made me convinced that turning around was a better option.

"Ohh? Not trembling beneath my Sovereign Frost. Amusing."

Step.

Step.

Step.

The steps were gentle, and elegant.

From the darkness, came a lady wearing a lavender polished armor that bore a kinship to the ancient samurai armor, but was far shorter, only reaching her mid thigh, then revealing her whitish body.

Beneath the armor itself was a white cloak that was flowing, but only extended behind her. Her silver hair with sharp bangs flowed like they commanded the cold winds. She gave this aura of someone born beneath falling petals and steel skies.

But when I looked at her, she was dangerously beautiful. Making my blood chill as I was reminded of my first time seeing Kassie.

Then it dawned on me.

The cold aura coming from her, the ancient feel. And beauty that could topple nations.

’Brunhilde.’
