Chapter 423: Chapter 423: What Good Does Slandering Me Do You?
A tidal wave of rumors and gossip flooded the screen, catching Claire Sinclair completely off guard.
While the rumors weren’t entirely true, many of the details hit the mark. Evergreen Garden really was a gift from Adrian Quincy, and she and Adrian did indeed have an intricate connection.
’Who on earth is trying to ruin me?’
Claire Sinclair clenched her fists, her mind in turmoil.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. She thought of someone. ’Could it be Melanie Sinclair?’
Only a few people knew that Logan Linden was in prison for rape. It couldn’t have been leaked by the Linden Family, because no family would want the entire internet to know their son was a rapist.
That only left Melanie Sinclair.
’That damn bitch!’
Claire Sinclair’s fingers flew across the keyboard, and she quickly pulled up a recent chat log—
Lovely Jasmine: President Judd, was the dirt I gave you juicy enough?
Reporter Bro Judd: Vicious stuff. But how sure are you about it?
Lovely Jasmine: I’m her stepsister. You think I wouldn’t know about the skeletons in her closet?
Reporter Bro Judd: Alright. I’ll organize this and get it published. This is a real bombshell!
...
The chat log was too long, and Claire didn’t have the patience to read it all. But she had the answer she needed: the mastermind was that disgusting woman, Melanie Sinclair.
’No, I have to calm down!’
Claire Sinclair shook her head, forcing herself to calm down. Then, she published a new post: What do you gain from trashing me?
It was just that one sentence, with no further explanation.
After posting it, Claire put the matter aside and got back to work.
Before she knew it, it was time for her lunch break. Claire propped her phone up on the desk and opened the livestream page on her social media app.
With the negative press exploding online, Claire’s livestream had barely been active for thirty seconds before tens of thousands of viewers flooded in, and the number was still growing rapidly.
Claire calmly addressed the camera. "I wanted to keep a low profile, but someone has gone too far. I have no choice but to come forward and say a few words."
After a pause, her expression turned serious as she declared, "Melanie Sinclair, I’m giving you three days to come forward, apologize to me, and admit to everyone that you started these online rumors. If I don’t see a public apology from you in three days, I will let everyone know how you stole my ex-boyfriend, and how you used my naivete to make money for you two shameless lovers to buy a house. Oh, and I almost forgot. You go by a new name now, Jasmine Sinclair. You’re known for that innocent persona of yours, aren’t you? The wife of Hugh Carson, the President of ClickCart."
At this, a flicker of anger appeared in Claire’s eyes. "And a little reminder for all you netizens out there: your brains are for telling right from wrong, not for blindly jumping on a hate bandwagon. Even if there are some dark spots in my past, it’s a past where I was abused by my father with no way to fight back, where my stepsister stole my boyfriend. This ’dear’ sister even had the gall to show up in front of me, pregnant, to gloat that she and my ex had been secretly seeing each other for two years. You all want to see proof? Then you should hope Melanie Sinclair doesn’t apologize. As long as she has the nerve to keep smearing my name, I’ll release every last piece of evidence."
With that, Claire ended the livestream.
Her colleagues were still in the office. Hearing Claire’s composed account of her past, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of shame.
They had known Claire for so long, yet they hadn’t trusted her character. Not only had they failed to speak up for her, but they had almost become part of the online mob piling on the hate... They were utterly mortified.
