Chapter 349: Chapter 349: It Turns Out His Identity Is Not Simple
It was almost 4 AM by the time Claire Sinclair finished the project.
Her laptop screen was tiled with a hundred tiny surveillance feeds, all of which she had hacked into. The feeds were too small to make out any details.
But that didn’t matter. Claire Sinclair waited patiently. After a while, the watch on her wrist suddenly vibrated. Her phone, sitting beside her, immediately displayed an alert: 25 Eastwatch Road. S-class fugitive. Crime: Fatal hit-and-run.
At the same time, her laptop automatically switched to surveillance feed #42.
A man with shifty, rat-like eyes appeared on the feed. It was none other than Lynch, the fugitive the police had publicized online.
Just as Claire Sinclair was about to call the police, her watch vibrated again.
The screen switched to surveillance feed #1, and a familiar, devilishly handsome face appeared...
’Orion Osborne?’
She glanced at her phone in confusion. The alert read: Kapok Crossing. Suspicious Male.
’Usually, a "Suspicious Male" alert meant the person either had multiple identities or was a dangerous, undocumented individual. Such people posed a significant threat, as they could be international fugitives or special operatives like spies and assassins.’
’No wonder he’s so mysterious. He even showed up at The Bitter Sea. Turns out there’s more to him than meets the eye.’
Claire Sinclair made a mental note to steer clear of him in the future. It was the only way to avoid trouble.
She glanced at the time. It was almost five o’clock. Only then did Claire Sinclair finally get to bed.
-
Having barely slept, Claire Sinclair overslept the next day.
She was "gloriously" late again by the time she arrived at the news agency, and Henry Hartwell promptly summoned her to his office.
With her head down, Claire Sinclair couldn’t suppress a yawn. Her voice was languid as she said, "Teacher Hartwell, I’m sorry. I’m late again."
Henry Hartwell said with a wry smile, "Young people need to learn some restraint. Especially in our line of work. If you were suddenly sent on an out-of-town assignment, I guarantee you wouldn’t be able to handle it."
Claire Sinclair immediately perked up. "Teacher Hartwell, are you sending me on an out-of-town assignment? Is there a new assignment?"
Henry Hartwell smiled. "What are you so excited about? Even if I were giving you an assignment, it wouldn’t be out-of-town."
"Then what is it?" Claire had a gut feeling that Teacher Hartwell had a new assignment for her.
"At the end of the month, Princess Morinka of Yarrow will lead a group of artists to our capital, Aethelgard, for a cultural exchange. As usual, our agency and the TV station next door will be doing a special feature on it. During her visit, the princess might meet with Young Master Quincy and Ethan Kingsley. What are your thoughts?"
’Princess Morinka was the third and most favored princess of Yarrow’s royal family. She was also the most popular heir to the throne, beautiful and graceful, like a princess straight out of a fairy tale, and was deeply loved by her people.’
’If she were only here for a cultural exchange, there would be no need for her to meet with Adrian Quincy and Ethan Kingsley, Aridia’s two most popular presidential candidates. She definitely had an agenda.’
"Teacher Hartwell, I’m a bit out of my depth here. Why don’t you just tell me what you think?"
"Alright, I’ll tell you what I’m thinking. Princess Morinka is facing a precarious situation back in Yarrow herself. Her motives for bringing this cultural delegation to Aridia are anything but simple. As for whether she meets with Young Master Quincy or Ethan Kingsley, that decision will have a major impact on both candidates’ political careers."
’As expected, even Teacher Hartwell sees it that way.’
Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, "Does this mean that whoever Princess Morinka gets close to will get a huge boost in popularity?"
