Chapter 295: Chapter 295: Not Reserved at All

He was in camouflage fatigues, still not wearing the clothes she’d brought for him...

"I guess white isn’t suitable for wearing out here, is it?"

"The clothes would get dirty. But the socks and underwear are fine. I put them on."

"Really?"

Adrian Quincy deliberately walked over to her and pulled his waistband down slightly, revealing the elastic band of his underwear.

Claire Sinclair’s face flushed beet-red. "What are you doing...?"

’He has absolutely no shame!’

"Letting you check for yourself."

"How childish..." ’Yeah, right! I just saw his abs! Damn, he’s sexy. Too bad this isn’t the time or place to touch him, or I’d definitely get a handful.’

"Eat something first. I have to head to the front line in a little while. You can go back to Mount Goldspring and continue volunteering. I’ll have someone pick you up and bring you back tonight."

"I..." Claire looked up imploringly into his gentle, dark eyes. "I want to go with you to the front line to shoot a live stream. Is that okay?"

She blinked a few times for good measure.

To Adrian Quincy, it was clear she was trying to sweet-talk him.

"The front line is too dangerous. You can’t go."

"I promise I won’t leave your side. I’ll head back as soon as I’m done filming. Besides, I still have to go film the conditions of the victims over there."

"No."

"Adrian..." Claire grabbed his arms, rose onto her tiptoes, and tilted her head up to nip at his lips.

’Damn it!’

He was utterly incapable of refusing her kisses.

Adrian Quincy surrendered in less than a second. After a few moments of her teasing, he seized control of the kiss.

Just as things were about to spiral out of control, Adrian Quincy abruptly pushed his wife away. Panting heavily, his voice hoarse, he said, "Now is not the time. I’ll give you more when we’re back."

"..."

So, while they didn’t get to ’start the engine,’ he did, at least, agree to take her to the front line.

Claire successfully got into his official car. They drove a short way up the mountain road before stopping in the middle of a collapsed section.

After getting out, they had to walk for several minutes, eventually reaching the edge of Garlan Dam.

The original structure of Garlan Dam was completely submerged. The floodwaters let out a deep, muffled roar, like a death knell that struck fear into the heart.

Claire Sinclair silently took out her phone, opened her social media app, and started a live stream.

Once the stream began, she immediately spoke into her phone, "Hello, everyone. This is reporter Claire Sinclair from the Astoria Daily. My current location is on the eastern edge of the Garlan Reservoir..."

After describing the perilous situation at Garlan Dam, Claire turned the camera toward Adrian Quincy.

"Now, I’d like to interview the man in charge of the flood discharge operation, Mr. Quincy. Could you tell us a little about the plan moving forward?"

Adrian Quincy’s gaze fell on his wife’s sweat-streaked face. He couldn’t resist stepping forward to wipe her brow as he spoke. "In one hour, the evacuation of the last downstream village will be complete. At that point, we will detonate charges in the four diversion channels in the Mount Garlan area. The flood discharge will be carried out in four phases to relieve pressure on the downstream region."

He described the initial plan succinctly, without a single wasted word.

But then he added, "When you go back later, change your socks. If you don’t have a spare pair, wear the ones you brought for me. Your feet will get itchy if you leave them in wet socks. And when you’re live streaming over there, watch where you’re going. Don’t step in another ditch."

Caught off guard by his sudden show of concern, Claire instinctively glanced down at her feet.

Sure enough, at some point while she was walking around and broadcasting, she’d stepped in a ditch. Her shoes were caked with yellow mud and completely soaked through.

For a moment, Claire forgot she was still live. Her face flushed as she said, "You too. I’ll be waiting for your triumphant return."

"Okay."

"I’ll get going, then."

"Nancy Lockwood, escort Claire over there."

"Yes, sir!" Nancy Lockwood affirmed.
