Chapter 278: Chapter 278: You Have to Eat Even If You’re Not Hungry
’Adrian Quincy, you really are a madman!’
Claire Sinclair finally relented. "Alright, I won’t file for divorce for now. Get up."
Though he had succeeded in making her stay, Adrian Quincy knew he had been utterly defeated. He rose as gracefully as he could, as if his kneeling had never happened.
Claire Sinclair couldn’t bear to look at his face and averted her gaze. "There’s no point in doing this."
"I’ve already made my position clear. Unless you can convince me otherwise, I will not divorce you."
"..."
From that moment on, Claire Sinclair had a new goal in life: find a reasonable excuse to convince him to agree to a divorce.
’Fine. She would just have to keep trying to divorce him.’
"Claire, let’s go inside and eat the porridge."
"Aren’t you eating?"
"I’ll eat with you."
"That’s more like it..."
’If she were the only one eating, she wouldn’t touch it. How boring would it be to eat alone?’
The two returned home and went into the dining room.
Adrian Quincy seated his wife at the table and placed a bowl of porridge in front of her before getting his own.
Claire Sinclair took a bite and found it was surprisingly good. She ended up eating two whole bowls until she was stuffed. The man, however, seemed to have no appetite; she had finished two bowls, yet he hadn’t even finished one.
"Why are you eating so slowly?"
"I’m not very hungry."
"You have to eat even if you’re not hungry. You barely ate anything this morning."
"Okay," Adrian Quincy agreed, and continued to eat the porridge.
In truth, it wasn’t that he wasn’t hungry, but that he disliked red dates. He couldn’t stand their flavor, and he wasn’t particularly fond of eel either.
He had cooked this porridge specifically for her and had only agreed to eat with her because he was afraid she wouldn’t touch it otherwise...
Her belly full, Claire Sinclair took out her phone to browse while she waited for him to finish eating.
She was idly scrolling through social media when a news story caught her eye, and she read it aloud. "The weather forecast says that in the next half-month, Noval will experience a once-in-a-century torrential downpour. Experts predict a catastrophic flood may occur. What a jinx, always saying such unlucky things."
Adrian Quincy looked up at her, the corners of his lips lifting slightly. "The weather in Noval has been abnormal this year. Rainfall has remained high, and the groundwater levels in the mountains and rivers are at capacity. The experts’ prediction isn’t baseless."
"Huh?" Claire Sinclair hadn’t expected him to be able to converse on such a topic, and for a moment, she was at a loss for words.
’She had only read it aloud out of boredom.’
"In previous years, when floods hit Noval, I would personally lead teams there for disaster relief. I’m quite familiar with the area."
"Well, I hope a flood doesn’t happen. Natural disasters always drain resources and cost lives. Some people even make the ultimate sacrifice. That’s the last thing I want to see."
Adrian Quincy suddenly fell silent.
Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "Did I say something wrong?"
Adrian Quincy shook his head slightly, took out his phone, and made a call. "Send people to Garlan Dam immediately. The rainy season is approaching, and that crack we saw before could lead to a catastrophe. It needs to be repaired right away."
"Yes, sir!"
After hanging up, Adrian Quincy went back to eating his porridge.
Claire Sinclair stared at him with a strange expression. "What’s Garlan Dam?"
"It’s a local dam I passed during a mission. There aren’t many villages nearby, but the downstream area is densely populated. If the dam were to fail, it could lead to a major catastrophe."
"Oh. I’ve never been to a place like that, so I can’t really picture what you’re describing."
"Garlan Lake is quite beautiful. I’ll take you to see it when I get the chance."
"Okay!" Claire Sinclair loved natural scenery and wasn’t a fan of the artificial lakes in the city, finding them all cookie-cutter and lacking character.
’But would she ever get that chance?’
