Chapter 179: Chapter 179: You’re Not Allowed to Tease Me During the Day

Adrian Quincy’s cold gaze swept over her as he said in a deep voice, "Didn’t you see your sister-in-law standing here?"

Yara Quincy instinctively glanced at Claire Sinclair, who wore an innocent expression. Though reluctant, she didn’t want to anger her brother, so she obediently called out, "Sister-in-law."

Claire Sinclair nodded but said nothing, not wanting to make the situation any more awkward.

Adrian Quincy walked to Claire Sinclair’s side, took her hand, and led her into the building, leaving his sister with nothing but his cold, distant back. "Grandpa isn’t well, so there’s no need for a birthday banquet. I’ll take Claire to see him when I have time."

"But, big brother, Mom already told all our relatives we’re having one," Yara Quincy said, hurrying after them. "If you do this, she’ll be upset, and so will Dad."

Adrian Quincy stopped and glanced back slightly. "That’s fine. I’ll just bring Claire home that day."

"Brother..." Yara Quincy was utterly speechless.

Adrian Quincy said no more and led Claire Sinclair into the Quincy Manor dining hall.

Yara Quincy stood frozen to the spot, unable to get the image of her brother and Claire Sinclair holding hands out of her mind.

’In her mind, the only one in the world worthy of her brother is Quinn. If not Quinn, then it has to be the strongest female soldier in the manor.’

’Only then would his safety be guaranteed...’

’Claire Sinclair is so weak. How could she possibly protect him?’

’She’s not worthy, plain and simple!’ 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

’No, this won’t do. When I get back, I have to talk to Mom and Dad about this. My brother’s happiness and his future legacy are at stake. I absolutely can’t let him continue to be so reckless!’

...

The late-night supper at Quincy Manor was simple—just noodles with egg and greens.

Claire Sinclair was starving and in no position to be picky. She ate so quickly that she didn’t even leave a drop of broth behind.

Only after she’d finished did she realize her Mr. Quincy hadn’t even gotten halfway through his bowl. ’Did I eat too fast???’

"Mr. Quincy, why are you eating so slowly?"

"I already ate. I’m not that hungry."

"You ate without waking me? And you let me sleep until it was dark out. What a waste of time."

"You were exhausted. Sleep is better for recovery."

At the mention of that, Claire Sinclair couldn’t stop herself from thinking about them tumbling in the sheets in broad daylight. Her face instantly flushed red.

"From now on, you’re not allowed to seduce me during the day."

"Okay. I’ll seduce you at night, then."

"Not at night, either!!!"

"Then in the morning."

"The morning is even worse!"

Claire Sinclair felt utterly defeated by this man. ’A man’s boundless energy might be a blessing for him, but for a woman, it’s a total disaster!’

A faint smile touched Adrian Quincy’s lips, seeming to light up the darkness with its boundless affection. "If morning and night are both out, then how about right before we go to sleep?"

"I can’t be bothered with you..." Claire Sinclair didn’t even want to reply.

As soon as he finished his noodles, Claire Sinclair hurried back to their room, brushed her teeth, and lay down in bed.

She thought he would get into bed too, but to her surprise, he only sat on the edge of it.

Claire Sinclair gazed at his gentle face. "Aren’t you going to sleep?"

"I still have a few things to take care of. You go to sleep first."

"Well, don’t stay up too late. I have to work tomorrow, so I’m not waiting up."

Adrian Quincy slowly lowered his head and gave her a light peck on the lips before leaving.

...

Due to a fire in the neighboring building, the Astoria Daily office was closed for the day. However, everyone still had to report to one specific location...

Now, over a year after her graduation, Claire Sinclair was back at her alma mater for a single purpose: the Astoria Daily’s company-wide physical fitness test.

The test consisted of a single event: a 3000-meter run for the men, and an 800-meter run for the women.

Henry Hartwell had arranged for a physical education teacher from Xylos University—supposedly an old college classmate of his—to help administer the test.
