Chapter 149: Chapter 149: The Hacker Strikes
Claire Sinclair squeezed his large hand back and gave him her most reassuring smile. "As long as you’re here, I’m not scared at all."
Adrian Quincy gently pulled her into his embrace. A thousand words couldn’t compare to the warmth of her trust in him.
The car moved slowly through the night, gradually pulling into the grounds of Quincy Manor.
Claire Sinclair hadn’t expected him to bring her here. She couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you bring me here?"
"You can stay here tonight. I’ll take you to work in the morning."
As he spoke, Adrian Quincy opened his door and stepped out of the car.
Claire Sinclair quickly followed him out of the car. "But what about a change of clothes?"
’She couldn’t very well wear a backless dress to work tomorrow, could she?’
Adrian Quincy looked back at her. "Come with me."
Claire Sinclair was speechless.
Adrian Quincy led her into his room. It was decorated in a minimalist, pure white style that felt both familiar and foreign. The space was immaculate—even the floor was spotless.
He nudged Claire Sinclair into the bathroom. Before he left, he said, "Take a shower and get some sleep. You can wear one of my shirts for now."
"You still have to work so late?"
"I just have to handle a few things. You go ahead and sleep."
And with that, he was gone.
Claire Sinclair felt a pang of disappointment, but she understood. There had been an incident at the hotel, so of course he had to deal with it.
...
「In the first-floor office.」
The hotel security sweep was complete. Aiden Howkins had returned with his team and was now in the office making his report.
Aiden Howkins walked up to Adrian Quincy, tablet in hand, and passed it to him.
"Young Master Quincy, our sweep of the hotel revealed no security threats or casualties. However, we did find this in the surveillance room."
Adrian Quincy took the tablet and saw the message glowing on the screen: "On June 2nd, you are cordially invited to witness The Prankster Alliance’s grand revel. May you all be filled to the brim with evil."
Aiden Howkins said, "When we returned to the surveillance room, the guard on duty had been knocked unconscious, and that message was on the computer. I suspect it was a hacker, one who came well-prepared. Unfortunately, neither guard saw their attacker’s face. And aside from Shadow, the surveillance footage shows no other suspicious individuals."
Adrian Quincy’s cold gaze remained fixed on the tablet. After a moment of thought, he made a decisive command.
"Shadow wouldn’t expose himself on camera so carelessly. He must be connected to the hacker pulling the strings. Notify the network security department at once. I want that hacker’s IP address found as soon as possible."
"Yes, sir!" Aiden Howkins affirmed.
He was about to leave and get to work, but he noticed Adrian Quincy was still staring at the tablet with a grave expression. He was clearly still pondering something, so Aiden remained where he was.
After a long moment, Adrian Quincy spoke, his lips barely moving. "Something is going to happen on June 2nd. Their target might not be limited to us. Issue a notice to strengthen security in all major, crowded public venues. Also, recall everyone from the network security department. I want them on standby."
"Yes, sir!" Aiden Howkins replied forcefully. Then, he asked more tentatively, "Young Master Quincy, any other instructions?"
Adrian Quincy waved a dismissive hand, saying nothing more.
Aiden Howkins then left to carry out his orders.
Adrian Quincy remained in the office for a long time, his eyes glued to the message on the tablet. It wasn’t until an enchanting face he adored uncontrollably surfaced in his mind that his gaze finally shifted to the clock.
Midnight.
Tablet in hand, Adrian Quincy left the office.
When he returned to the white bedroom, he saw her standing before the closet, folding the gown she had just taken off. She was wearing one of his white dress shirts.
Her long, slender legs were bare, and the sight half-hidden beneath the hem of the shirt held a mysterious allure, as enigmatic as the night itself...
