Chapter 78: The Molten Core (1)

Dungeon Cores were objects of great and immense value.

It is said that it was the perfect source of magical power. Emerging nearly a hundred years after the fall of the Zodiacs, it was far beyond the eras of the Heroes who saved the world.

After all, it was the sealed Zodiacs who made them.

Yet this bestowal of life also gave these Dungeon Cores the power to evolve. Unlike their former creations, these cores did not have a limit!

But modern man found that this powerful living being that was bestowed life and thought, and could terraform lands and create monster kingdoms that terrorized lands.

But finding one would mean that a man was set for life.

Whether he chose to sell it or used it for his own, it would naturally mean either great wealth or incredible power.

After all, they were said to be the perfect Cores and assured one of growing up to level 20 easily!

And there before his eyes, Boldred saw the young mage wielding it and drawing mana from it!

"How is it...granting him such mana?!" The Battle Mage was shocked. Never before had he seen a Dungeon Core ’bestow’ mana to a human!

"That... Boss... We..."

"I know! We must have that!"

"Then come and get it!" Thane chuckled.

As the mana flowed in Thane, he channeled it and slowly, a small stone statue began to form in front of him.

The bright glow made the Red Chains see it!

The stone statue emerged and began to move and roar as it stood next to him.

Thane summoned a Groundling!

"Su-summoning?!"

Boldred trembled with greed.

"I will have that!" Boldred laughed.

"On me, Red Chains! Victory is before us and the prize of great power is ours!" Boldred ordered and the group began to march.

A Staff manifested on Thane’s hand. And suddenly, the glow of the Dungeon Core gave it power.

A large fire energy gathered on his staff.

Boldred made the charge and his closest allies followed.

Behind him the Captain all rallied the troops as they all rushed down.

"Bring me Cold Parter!" He roared and his sword bearer brought a massive blue steel sword.

Holding the blade, Boldred began to march.

Esau’s arrows were slow and Boldred would give the minimum movements to avoid the arrows from the Groundling.

"I don’t know what kind of a mage you are and what treasure you hold that you could employ a Groundling and summon one with that Core... But that... will be mine!" Boldred’s eyes revealed great greed and he marched on.

At first it was slow, but then he began to pick up the pace and he was sprinting faster than his allies. The large claymore then began to glow a shade of blue.

Seeing the wild charge, Thane smiled and channeled the mana.

"Let’s see you deal with this!" Thane shot a large fireball at Boldred!

The size was three times the size of the previous fireballs.

"Fool! No Fire mage can defeat me!" Boldred roared as he made a quick slash with the large blade.

SLASH!

To Thane’s surprise, the fireball was cleaved into two and the magic that composed it disintegrated!

The fireball disappeared as mist and vapor shot out.

Boldred rushed forward.

Immediately, Thane rushed back as he continued to shoot fireballs and Esau also slowly retreated.

"An Ice Sword? Perfect! I was worried if they could kill those fire golems!" Thane chuckled as he held on the Dungeon Core.

"Let’s see..."

Holding the Dungeon Core, Thane channeled the mana into it. His mind raced and thought towards the lessons he had about summoning. But now, he had a Dungeon Core. He would not need to study the tedious process but he used the docile Dungeon Core in his hands to do most of the hard work.

Thane’s eyes gathered as he poured his intent on the Dungeon Core.

RUMBLE RUMBLE...

The ground began to move as three small stony beings grew from the ground all at once.

All of a sudden, three Groundlings broke out from the earth.

"BUHINAKAMI!" The Groundlings cried as they were granted life.

Thane was pleased.

"I see... The last step is the most costly in terms of mana... If that’s the case..." Thane chuckled.

But Thane kept on pouring mana into it and twenty small bodies began to emerge from the ground and had the face of the Groundlings!

Thane then shot a fireball towards the entrance of the chamber as Boldred was about to enter.

BOOM!

The fireball struck the ceiling, but only gave Boldred pause for a split second before entering the room.

Some stones began to fall into the entrance for a few seconds.

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!

The entrance was now covered by stones.

"Let’s go-!" The Battle Mage Commander called to his troops who were now lined up behind him.

"No... Wait. That bastard is quite cunning. We have to break out quickly and rush forward. I saw the entrance of the chamber and it had a high ceiling. He could have created more of those traps."

"So what do we do, Boss?" The Battle mage asked.

"We break in with force and blitz that bastard! Wield your Power and break whatever stones that fall down on us! On every row one will charge, and two will break the rocks! We break in and charge before he could trigger any more traps. Everyone... Prepare to launch an all out attack. We break through these stones and rush in! On my mark!"

Outside, Thane could see the surging Power and Mana and he dropped the Dungeon Core to the center ground. He had long noticed that the concentration of Mana was strong in that area.

Thane had the Dungeon Core tied to a rope and he had thrown it to the center of the ground!

"You want it! Come and get it!" Thane taunted with his staff glowing with energy!

And then...

BOOOM!

Boldred and his men struck the stones. The combined power blasted the stones and sent it flying all over as they raced in.

Esua roared and the three groundlings that Thane summoned all shrieked as they prepared to fight.

All the Red Chains rushed in with the Battle Mages and the barbarians channeling their Power to strike at the falling stones.

But no stones fell as they rushed in.

Finally, Thane shot the fireball. But instead of one, Thane divided the mana and shot two!

Two fireballs twice the size of the normal ones shot through the ceiling causing all to watch the fireball’s trail.

The two attacks landed on different sides of the cave and the traps were triggered.

A landslide of massive boulders all began to fall down.

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH! RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

Stone after stone, and even earthen soil flowed covering the exit!

The Red Chains had all rushed out of the cave’s entrance and none were caught from the traps.

The Red Chains saw the entrance closed, covered with rock, earth and dust.

And they all began to laugh.

"You missed!"

"Your last trap failed!"

The taunts were hurled but Boldred kept silent and frowned.

He saw Thane holding on to the rope and the Dungeon Core was on the ground near him.

Seeing the Core, Boldred sprinted and ran towards the Core, but suddenly, the Core and the rope vanished right before Boldred snatched it!

Boldred glared at Thane.

"If you hand that to me, I will spare your life! Your trap has failed!"

"Not so, my dear friend." Thane chuckled.

"What you guys didn’t know... is that the monsters in this area, aren’t just any lava beasts. They were summons of another Dungeon Core!"

"Another Dungeon Core?" Boldred frowned.

"The Lava Golems...? Are summons? What are you talking about? Hand over the Core and the dimensional storage artifact and we will let you live!" The Battle Mage Commander approached.

"You seem to misunderstand. I’m not stuck in this room with you, but you are stuck in this room... with them!"

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!

Molten eruptions occurred left to right as Molten beings emerged from the soil.

"You got greedy with the Dungeon Core. But another Dungeon Core would be more greedy if such a young and potent one was right before it. That’s why Dungeon Cores wage war against each other. And now... you guys appear to be the ones that stole it from them!" Thane chuckled as the Molten Golems emerged from the ground one after the other!
