Chapter 8: Work For Your Stay.

A disrupting smirk tugged Kael’s lips, eyes trailed down the spot on the outcast’s thigh where a huge lump inside his pants was.

"The pouch inside of your pocket, that’s what I’m talking about."

The outcast took a step back, his hands traveled down towards the pouch as he grabbed it in his firm grip. "S-sir... did you bring me here to snatch my stuff?"

Kael didn’t say anything and only studied him for a while. But then he finally spoke. "I’m not trying to take your belongings, I’m just telling you to give them to me for your stay here."

He turned back towards the door and started walking, but before he entered through the door, he said. "But think about it carefully, there’s only one place you can stay in this city with peace, and that’s here."

After saying that, he entered the mansion. Sylas slightly peeked from behind Kael’s shoulder, looking at the outcast who had fallen into a long daze, his body trembling lightly.

"Mister, are we going to let that white-eyed mister there alone?"

The words of Sylas fell inside of Kael’s ears clearly, but he didn’t react to them even the slightest bit.

When they reached inside the mansion, Kael let Sylas down. "Go play, kid." He patted his head gently.

An adorable smile appeared on Sylas’s face. "Okay, mister." The moment he said that, he started running towards the garden.

Kael looked at Sylas’s back, and a bunch of thoughts rushed through his mind. "Is this what it feels like to be living with a kid?" He closed his eyes as a sigh escaped through his mouth.

The time passed a little too fast, the rays of the sun had started to turn orange, and the shadows had finally begun to thicken up.

Kael was sitting on the chair in the garden, which was full of flowers, and a few fruit trees were planted around him.

Sylas remained seated comfortably in his lap, his eyes gently shut as he had already drifted into the world of sleep. After playing around so much, he seemed completely exhausted.

A strange creaking noise rang inside Kael’s ears; his gaze shifted towards the main door. He noticed that the outcast had finally decided to show himself in front of him.

The outcast didn’t say anything and just walked towards them; his steps remained unhurried, but they felt heavy.

He stopped a few meters away from Kael, eyes fixed on the ground. He didn’t say anything for a while, but then muttered a bit of courage to speak. "Mister, is the offer you made me still valid?"

Kael studied the outcast for a while before replying. "You changed your mind?"

"Well, if that’s what you want, then yes, the offer is still valid."

"But you have two options."

The outcast’s eyes frowned slightly. "What do you mean by that, mister?"

Kael continued. "The first option is that you pay 10 silver coins for your stay per day here, or rather work for your stay."

"If you’ll work for it, the price would be reduced to 2 silver coins per day."

"So, what do you say?" Kael looked right into the eyes of the outcast, as a smirk appeared on his lips.

The outcast’s eyes widened, mouth opened a bit as a bunch of thoughts popped into his mind. "10 silver coins per day? 10 silvers are enough to spend a whole month at an inn."

He muttered a sliver of his strength and spoke. "But, sir, isn’t it a little too expensive?"

"I’m not forcing you to choose right away; the choice is yours."

"But it’s better to take my offer than getting beaten to death by the city people, right?"

"With this, I’ll not have any kind of problem regarding money, and I will also get a worker who’ll manage the house."

The outcast’s head turned towards the ground as he clenched his hands. "I only have a limited amount of money... just 20 gold coins, which I got after doing that..."

"I can’t spend it mindlessly, but I also can’t go anywhere in this city, nor can I travel to the next city without facing major risks."

He took a deep sigh as he lowered his torso. "Mister, I’ll accept your offer."

"That’s the kind of answer I anticipated," Kael said with a stoic tone.

He got up from the chair and started walking towards Sylas’s room. Before leaving entirely, he paused as he turned his head. "Do you know how to cook food?"

The outcast’s gaze shifted towards Kael’s back, and instinctively, he answered. "Yes, I know."

"You’ll be cooking food from now on, then." After saying that, Kael started moving once again.

When Kael entered Sylas’s room, he gently placed him onto the bed and carefully pulled the blanket over him. After softly patting his head once, he remained standing there in silence as a thought suddenly crossed his mind.

"He looks adorable when he’s sleeping."

He turned towards the door and walked out through it. "It’s feeling a little too peaceful now."

Before he could think about doing anything, a loud noise came through outside. It sounded like a scream.

"Hey, is anyone there?"

"Open up, the count’s soldiers are here."
