Chapter 28: It Skipped My Mind.

Time slipped by in silence, yet no reply left Kael’s lips. He remained still, his gaze fixed upon the endless sky above.

Leon simply stood there and scratched the back of his head lightly. "So, do I really have to do that, mansion lord?"

Kael turned his head towards him and muttered. "If you’ll not do it, then who will?"

The sudden question lingered in the air for a few seconds before Leon finally answered it.

"Uh... you?"

The air around Kael suddenly started to change; the density in the air increased. A vein popped through his forehead, but he tried to remain calm.

Leon noticed the expression on Kael’s face, and a sudden thought appeared inside his mind. "He’s about to kill me, isn’t he?"

Without saying anything else, he took a few steps backwards as he tried to leave silently.

A thought popped into his mind. "Leon, get away from here this instant if you want a peaceful morning tomorrow."

He kept walking, each step cautious, pace steady but hushed. The soles of his feet barely touched the ground; every movement felt measured.

But out of nowhere, a faint smile appeared on Kael’s lips as he muttered. "If you do it, then I’ll teach you martial arts."

Leon suddenly froze, his back straightened as he turned toward Kael.

A fraction of greed flickered across his face as he walked forward with purpose. "Yes, sir," he said, voice eager yet submissive. "Tell me, what task does this lowly servant of yours have to fulfill?"

"Good, that’s the kind of response I was expecting from you." He took a small pause and walked towards Sylas.

When he reached there, he leaned in and picked him up gently.

He patted Sylas’s head politely. "It’s time for bed, Sylas."

Sylas was completely covered in mud, some of it even covering the area around his mouth.

"Hehehe!!" He chuckled as he pointed towards the castle, which he made by using mud.

Both Kael and Leon’s gazes followed where he had pointed. They soon noticed a small, sloppy mansion built of mud, its crude structure mimicking the design of their own castle.

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Kael’s lips. "That’s beautiful."

Another voice came from behind, loud yet cheerful. "Sylas, that definitely looks like our mansion."

He walked toward Kael, leaning in just enough to meet Sylas at eye level. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he murmured, "Such vivid imagery you have, Sylas."

A bright, yet soothing smile appeared on Sylas’s face. "Hehe, thank you, mister." He looked at Kael and said.

Then his gaze turned towards Leon as he repeated the same thing. "Thank you, mister, white."

In the next instant, Kael began walking toward the bedroom. His steps slowed, hesitation slipping into his stride as he muttered under his breath, "Go to the city the moment the sun rises."

With those words spoken, his pace steadied once more, and he continued on his way.

Leon remained standing there, simply watching Kael’s back.

A sigh escaped his mouth as a thought appeared inside his head. "I’m running errands and doing house chores suddenly."

He tucked his arms behind his head and started walking towards his room. "At least better than getting myself beaten to a pulp by people."

Kael was sleeping inside his room patiently, as the breeze of morning air entered through the open windows.

Alongside that, rays of the sun slipped through, casting their glow inside and making the room slightly brighter.

Because of that, Kael’s eyes twitched before slowly opening. Without uttering a word, he rose and sat upright on the bed.

A sound of someone mopping the floor fell inside his ears. "I woke up quite late today."

He silently sighed and continued. "I don’t know why, but I’ve gotten used to this kind of life."

Without wasting any other second, he got down from the bed and made his way outside.

When he reached the garden, he noticed that Leon was sweeping the floor.

His steps stopped as he crossed his arms. "You didn’t fulfill what I told you to?"

Out of nowhere, Leon stopped sweeping the ground. Sweat started to cover his face as his head slightly turned towards Kael.

"U-Uh." "Fuck!! That clearly skipped through my mind."

"I have to think about something real quick."

Then, an idea flickered in his mind as he spoke. "I thought sweeping the floor and handling the rest of the house chores would be better. I was planning to head to the city after finishing the sweeping, mansion lord."

Kael’s gaze swept across the entire garden, then shifted towards every room. He noticed that each room was cleaned, and the garden was almost clean too.

"I’ll give you ten more minutes." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"After that, if I spot you inside the mansion, then I’ll cut your salary." His voice was blunt.

Leon’s eyes widened entirely, jaw dropped as a thought lingered inside his mind. "Wait, what?! He’ll not give me my salary?"

"I’d rather die than see all my efforts until now go to waste," he muttered, tightening his grip on the broom as he began sweeping once again.

Kael watched over him for a while, and then his gaze fell on the castle that Sylas had made yesterday. The castle didn’t budge even a single inch; it remained static the entire night.

While looking at it, a faint smile tugged at Kael’s lips as a thought crossed his mind. "It shows that, because of Sylas, happiness will always remain constant here."
