Chapter 25: You Did Well.
Then again, he started sweeping the floor, cleaning the dead leaves of the tree. "I didn’t want any kind of appreciation for the stuff I did back there,"
"But still, he could’ve done it as a form of simple formality."
He placed the broom onto the floor for a while, his hands travelled down to his waist, and a sigh left his mouth. "What can I even expect from a man who’s only affectionate towards his son?"
Leon shook his head lightly, shrugging off a bit. But then the sound of footsteps fell inside his ears, the sound was gradually decreasing as if someone was coming towards him.
He instantly straightened his back and lifted the broom back up. His grip tightened onto the stick, as his gaze shifted towards the hall.
Kael was walking toward him, his steps slow and steady. His gaze remained fixed ahead, calm and unreadable.
"I wasn’t talking to myself, and definitely was not talking ill towards anyone." His voice sounded a bit hurried.
The slow breeze of air covered the entire area, making their clothes float effortlessly. The gentle rays of the setting sun fell across the ground, making the surroundings feel alive.
Kael stopped a few meters away from Leon and crossed his arms. "Did you prepare the dinner?"
Leon’s brows furrowed, lips twisted slightly upward. "W-what?"
"Did you not hear what I said?"
"I-uh... I didn’t prepare it yet."
Kael didn’t say anything at first. He simply stared at Leon for a few moments before finally breaking the silence.
"Did you think Sylas would come home and wait for dinner to magically appear?" he asked flatly. "How could you neglect something so important? That’s irresponsible."
He paused briefly, glancing toward the kitchen. "Go. Prepare dinner first. You can deal with everything else afterward."
Leon gulped and walked towards the tree. He placed the broom next to the tree and made his way towards the kitchen.
But while he was on the way, words that he wasn’t expecting fell into his ears.
"The act that you showed back then was goodwill towards Sylas."
"Not many usually risk their life for strangers, but you did. And I’m grateful for that."
Leon’s eyes widened as he instantly turned his head towards Kael. "Sylas, and you aren’t strangers to me anymore."
A faint smile, one that rarely ever appeared on Kael’s lips, surfaced for a brief moment. "You can think whatever you want," he said calmly.
A bright smile appeared on Leon’s face as he started walking towards the kitchen, but inside his mind, something else was cooking. ’I was thinking wrongly of him; he does actually care about me too.’
When he reached the kitchen, he grabbed a bunch of vegetables, tossed them into a utensil, and began washing them. As water flowed over his hands, he quietly hummed a tune to himself.
A smug smile slowly crept onto his face. ’Why wouldn’t he care? Of course, he would. I’m the only one around here who knows how to cook.’
Kael, who was in the garden before, had finally begun to make his way towards the bedroom where Sylas was sleeping.
He steadily walked there while the loud noise of utensils fell inside his ears. "He’ll definitely wake Sylas up if this continues any longer."
A sigh escaped through his mouth as he opened the door to the bedroom and entered. His eyes fell on Sylas, who was still sleeping, with a blanket draped over him gently.
He sat at the corner of the bed, directed his hand towards Sylas’s head as he started patting him. "I’m glad that they didn’t hurt him in any kind of way."
"But he may have seen Leon covered in blood. That could have left a psychological scar on him."
Soon, silence engulfed the entire chamber, and with nothing to distract him, countless thoughts began surfacing in Kael’s mind.
’I never wanted to indulge in the current world’s affairs because I don’t belong to this era.’
’But because of certain conditions I had to.’
His gaze shifted towards Sylas as another thought hit him. ’But for now, I have unfinished business with those who were involved in this incident.’
While he was lost in thought, Leon’s voice reached his ears.
"My lord, dinner is ready. Come and eat before it gets cold."
He directed both of his hands forward and lifted Sylas in his arms. He gently placed him next to his chest and started patting Sylas’s back.
While he was walking towards the dining room, he kept patting Sylas’s back to wake him up, but it wasn’t working, so he leaned closer and whispered into Sylas’s ear. "Wake up, the food is ready." And when he did that, he rubbed Sylas’s back gently.
Soon after Sylas woke up, he stretched his arms up in the air. As he opened his eyes and saw Kael standing in front of him, his eyes started to well up with tears.
"Wahhhh!!!"
"Misterrr!! Wahhhh!!"
A gentle smile appeared on Kael’s face as he started patting Sylas’s head and muttered in his ear. "Don’t cry, Sylas, I’m here now."
He kept walking towards the dining room, and during that, he constantly kept consoling Sylas.
