Chapter 58: Aura of a Rich Man...(⌐■_■)

Suddenly, his mindset broadened as he felt like he had to look at things differently...

Looking at Sara, he spoke calmly. "It seems I won’t be needing SC for quite some time."

Night:

(⌐■_■) 💰

Sara looked at him; he looked like someone who had just hit the lottery. You could practically sense the aura of a Rich Man emanating from him.

After putting two and two together, she looked at Lucy and realized something obvious.

The Fenrir was already Level 60 before bonding with Night, and from what Sara knew, she had eaten a Divine Treasure in a special dungeon.

Meaning her actual strength might have been equivalent to a Level 100 beast, practically making her a demigod.

Someone like her, even if she didn’t actively care to collect SC, must easily have millions lying around.

With her overwhelming strength, nothing sold in the System Shop could interest her, so she likely had no reason to spend the cash either.

Sara asked, "So, Lucy... that card held your personal funds?"

Getting caught so quickly, Lucy heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that Night had already redeemed the card, effectively making it worthless for anyone else to snatch.

Lucy explained, "Before roaming the world, I sold all the loot I had anonymously in the Shop. Whenever I encountered interesting things, I would sell them in the Shop from time to time just to kill my boredom."

"I transferred the balance to a card today," she added casually.

Sara teased, "Now, now, look at our little rich man... won’t you treat this poor Headmaster to a proper dinner?"

Sara:

(ΦωΦ)

Looking at her, Night felt embarrassed. He thought it was only right to treat her to dinner after all the help she had given them. He looked at Lucy, seeing her nod in agreement.

He navigated his System interface to the [Food] section and saw various dishes, some of them costing millions of SC.

Ignoring those, he looked for dishes with a more reasonable price. He picked one costing 12,000 SC.

It was sold by someone named [Picky Eater].

[Fruit Bombs: Made with care by a Lvl 50 Cook. This dish is made with rare fruits that merge together to create an exquisite taste. It will cause an explosion of flavors in your mouth, making you come back for more...

Cost: 12,000 SC

Note: It directly converts to mana upon consumption, nourishing you in seconds.]

Looking around, he counted out 8 dishes for everyone. Then he scrolled to the [Drinks] tab, where he immediately spotted Apple Juice; his favorite back in the facility.

This one looked like a enhanced version.

[Seller: Juicy Luicy]

[Apple Juice: Made from the juiciest, mana-rich apples grown in a secret realm. Crafted by a Lvl 40 Refiner.

Cost: 2,000 SC per cup

Note: Only available here.]

He was about to purchase it, wondering how they would deliver it to him. No delivery service or extra charges were mentioned.

Sara interrupted his thoughts, "Don’t buy anything just yet. Let’s look into the Professions first."

He paused, realizing it was only 4:00 PM right now. If they were going to have a proper dinner later, then these snacks might not cut it.

Let’s think about it later...

Night asked, "What is a Refiner?" This profession looked interesting to him. Of course, them being able to make premium Apple Juice was absolutely not the primary reason... really...

Sara explained, "Refiner is a Profession. It’s a common one. You get skills and knowledge that allow you to refine things like raw materials, natural treasures, metals, and so on."

Night sensed a ’but’ coming.

"But..." Sara continued.

There it is.

"It’s a good Profession, but a lot of commoners pick this one as it doesn’t require any great innate combat capabilities. As long as their flame control and perception are good, they can easily refine things," Sara said.

"A flame?" Night asked.

"The System will awaken a Spirit Flame in you if you pick this Profession, but it’s not unique to this profession. Many other Professions have them and their flames are often more powerful and effective for their specific purposes."

"For instance, a Refiner could never refine a medicinal plant better than an Alchemist, unless they get a specific skill that focuses entirely on plants; in which case, the Refiner’s product might be better."

"But doing so will cut you off from earning a broad income by refining other types of materials."

"The main specialty of being a Refiner is that they can easily earn a living and spend peaceful lives in the safety of a city," she concluded.

Night held his chin thoughtfully. For some reason, he really liked this Profession. It might even synergize with the [Body Modification] skill he had recently acquired.

Also, he had learned today in class that a summon will unlock their own Class when the Summoner reaches Level 50. It was a guaranteed reward from the System.

Teacher Mike had offhandedly mentioned this to him during the duels while watching a particularly boring fight.

Apparently, this was one of the main reasons some people chose the Summoner Class.

What is better than one person? Two.

If the summons could eventually do what the summoner could do, it was basically cheating, if you asked him.

Of course, Mike also made sure to mention that it was incredibly tough for a Summoner to ever reach Level 50.

"Hellooo..." Sara called out, waving a hand in front of him.

Sara:

( 。•ᴗ•。)👋( _ _)

Night blinked, realizing he had zoned out again.

"Sorry... I was just thinking about something Teacher Mike said," Night apologized.

Sara tilted her head, waiting for him to elaborate.

"He said it would be difficult for me to reach Level 50 and unlock Classes for my friends?" Night asked.

Hearing this, Lucy, Death, Eve and Lilith all looked at him in excitement. They had assumed they wouldn’t get a Class simply because they possessed ’Summon’ status.

Sage just looked confused, having no idea what a Class even was.

Sage:

@(・_・?)@

Sara realized she had forgotten to tell him about this mechanic. "Now that you’ve reached Level 20, the System should have changed the EXP needed for leveling, right?"

Night nodded grimly.

Sara continued, "The System is fair. Since a Summoner is basically more than one being, the EXP needed for them to level up is significantly higher."

"Up until Level 20, everyone follows the exact same experience curve for leveling. But after that, it becomes unique to each person."

"It depends on what type of Class they have, what type of Profession they choose and their overall potential."

"From this level onward, you actually cannot judge a person purely by their level."

"Take Lucy here, for example. Before bonding with you, while she might have just been Level 60, she was as strong as a Level 100 beast because of the Divine Treasure she had eaten."

Blade looked at Lucy in surprise upon hearing this.

Then, Sara pointed at Blade.

"Same for Blade here. Her actual strength is a lot higher than others at her level. It must be because of her status as a Unique Being."

"The same applies to you, Night. You are strong for your level compared to normal people, so the experience you will need to level up will just keep on increasing."

"Not to mention, you already have five Summons, and one of them is Lucy! So, how much experience do you think you would need to reach Level 60?"

Hearing this, Night’s lips twitched violently. So basically, I will be needing more than six times the experience a normal person needs to level up... And that multiplier will only increase if I get more summons!

There goes my dream of having an army of friends...

Looking at his devastated expression, Sara consoled him, "Don’t worry, it’s not too bad... Once you finally reach Level 50 and they awaken their own Classes, the boost you will all receive will make a lot of established powerhouses green with envy."

"Also, I have heard that after they reach Level 100, they will unlock their own Professions as well!"

Night’s mood immediately brightened upon hearing this. The rewards would undoubtedly be proportional to the amount of effort he put in.

Then, he asked thoughtfully, "Do you know of any other versatile Profession like Refiner?"

Sara thought for some time and asked, "Are you thinking in terms of being able to help your friends when they eventually unlock their own Professions?"

Night nodded.

It was much better than limiting himself by focusing on just one narrow field of expertise.

It was Blade who chimed in, "There are some Professions actually - like Doctor, Strategist, Enhancer, Leader, Sailor... that will probably be much more effective in the short term. But I feel you should go with Refiner as well."

"Unlike normally, your destiny seems to shine slightly brighter whenever you say that Profession’s name. I feel it is suitable for you."

Sara pondered and said, "You should listen to her. I don’t fully understand all her destiny mumbo-jumbo, but from what I know, it has a lot to do with a person’s Records."

He looked at his friends, and seeing their encouraging nods, he focused on his status screen and tapped on the new [Profession] tab.

But sensing no response, he tapped it again.

And again.

He kept tapping frantically until he looked up and saw Sara, Blade and Lucy laughing at him realising what he might be doing.

He realized he had missed something obvious.

Sara giggled, "You need a Profession Scroll to actually unlock it."

She pulled a glowing scroll from her spatial ring and handed it to Night.

As soon as he touched it, he received a System notification.

[Ding!]

[Profession Scroll Detected]

[Profession: Refiner]

[Refiner: A Refiner enhances the quality of anything by purifying it, thus bringing it closer to its original source.

Note: You will awaken a Spirit Fire upon choosing this Profession. This choice cannot be undone.

Holding a Beauty in his arms, _______ said, "What can I say? I am a very refined man."]

A refined what?!
