Chapter 50: White Monkey

Night’s POV

Looking at the tiny monkey, he already knew it was willing to bond with him.

Monkey:

@( ◕ ᴥ ◕ )@

Now the question was, was he willing?

Night:

(⇀_⇀)

He looked into his Nightmare Domain and realized that all his friends were fully focused on the monkey in his arms.

Death was staring at the monkey with so much intensity that it made him wonder if she was secretly hoping he would accept it.

Death:

(🔥_🔥)

Eve, Lilith, and Lucy were looking at it curiously, trying to understand it. After all, if it became a summon, they would become family.

Aside from it looking incredibly weak, they couldn’t glean anything special from it or maybe there simply was nothing to glean.

It was just a pitiful, weak monkey.

They all communicated through their bond that they were perfectly fine with whatever he chose; they didn’t have a problem with it joining them.

Meanwhile, seeing that it was being held but hadn’t yet felt the magical connection it was promised, the tiny monkey looked at Night like it was about to cry, thinking how cruel fate was.

But before tears could even form, it felt a terrifying black fog erupt from Night. The fog enveloped her, not even giving her a moment to react.

But instead of feeling pain, she only felt pure bliss as she felt herself growing stronger and stronger.

(˘⌣˘ )

She had never felt so powerful in her entire life.

From the Nightmare Domain, an invisible line was released, connecting directly to the monkey’s soul and cementing the bond.

Night felt it instantly. Their bond was so much stronger than his connection with Lucy. He almost felt like this small monkey was an extension of his own arm.

Feeling the creature’s immense happiness, he thought it was too weird to just call it "White Monkey."

It was like someone calling him "Human" or "Homunculus"... After thinking for a moment, he decided that despite her looking so weak right now, he hoped she would one day become the strongest.

Looking down at the monkey, he smiled. "Let’s call you Sage. I hope you one day become as strong as the heavens."

The monkey nodded happily in acceptance.

Seeing such a heartwarming scene, Sara who was watching from her office quickly opened a tome, cast a stealth spell on herself and teleported directly into the classroom, hiding in plain sight to watch closely.

Sara:

The teacher finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. "If you are done with the dramatic build-up, can we start the duel?"

Night looked up at Alex, noting the calm but confident look on the boy’s face. He then looked at the sharp, double-edged sword in his hand and finally looked down at the tiny Sage in his arms.

Hell nah.

He said, "I quit," without a single ounce of shame.

He would much rather get bullied verbally by a grumpy teacher than send the pitiful Sage to fight an armed kid; especially one giving off MC vibes.

Seeing this, the teacher finally lost it. "If you don’t fight now, I will ban you from entering the Inheritance Ground trip next month as punishment!"

"If you are fine with that, then go on. Quit."

Hearing this, the other kids wore expressions of genuine pity.

Night knew it must be something important, but he still didn’t give a damn.

For one, he didn’t even know what the trip implied. As the name suggested, it must be an Inheritance Ground and it sounded valuable, but he could just go and ask Sara to let him enter anyway.

If she didn’t agree, he would simply ask Blade to smuggle him in. Problem solved.

By now, the monkey had snapped back to reality. She quickly got a hold of herself, not letting the blissful leveling energy control her mind.

The energy phase wasn’t entirely over, but she was surprisingly able to distance herself from it and escape its dizzying influence.

Seeing the tense situation, she raised her tiny hand, causing Night to look down at her.

Eek-eek-eek!

(Let me fight! I want to fight!)

@(ง •̀ ᴥ •́)@ง

Night didn’t know what to say, but seeing her fierce determination, he decided to let her do her thing.

If it got dangerous, he would immediately interfere. It wouldn’t even be cheating, since it would technically just be him fighting alongside his summon.

Before the teacher could say anything else, Sage jumped out of Night’s arms as it stood in front of Alex, clenched her tiny fists and got into a fighting posture.

Sage:

୧@(`・ω・´)@୨

The teacher’s anger dissipated upon seeing that the summon was clearly not as lazy as its summoner.

If all the kids were this enthusiastic to fight, teaching would be wonderful, he thought with a sigh.

Seeing Night not leave the circle, the teacher gave him a stern look, then waved his hand, signaling that the fight had officially begun.

Many students especially the girls tried to cover their eyes.

If it was anyone else fighting, the monkey...no, Sage could at least put up some sort of fight. But Alex was an absolute beast with a sword.

From what their parents had gossiped about, his father was a renowned Sword Master, indicating that some of his overwhelming talent had to do with genetics.

Alex stepped forward and was upon Sage in an instant. He executed a simple vertical slash. Although surprised by his speed, Sage quickly reacted by dodging to the left.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp spike of danger and immediately jumped backward, even using her tail to tap the ground like an extra leg for leverage. As soon as she dodged, the vertical slash twisted mid-swing, seamlessly turning into a horizontal sweep.

Seeing the small creature dodge his attacks so effortlessly, Alex increased his pace. His sword glowed slightly, and he took another step forward. He was upon Sage again, but this time, the slash was faster.

Having just narrowly dodged a deadly attack, Sage dropped low to the ground on all fours and narrowed her eyes. Seeing the hairless monkey coming at her again; faster and looking much more dangerous this time, she prepared herself.

Suddenly, her tiny body glowed with a faint green light and her eyes gained a sharp green hue. Surprising even herself, she quickly dodged the incoming attack. This time, she was unbelievably fast, putting a massive distance between them in the blink of an eye.

Seeing this, even Night was surprised. He quickly checked his status to confirm his theory.

[Nightmare Domain]

[Bond]

Lucy – 45%

Death – 30%

Eve – 26%

Lilith – 26%

Sage - 90%

This must be why she is able to use my [Wind Dash] skill so effortlessly. No wonder she felt like she was a part of me, Night realized.

Alex, upon seeing his opponent escape again, decided to stop playing around.

He paused and closed his eyes for a second. When he opened them, he felt like an entirely different person. A faint white sword intent spread around him, covering him like a razor-sharp aura.

Immediately Sage felt the danger spike to terrifying levels. She immediately used [Wind Dash] again, blurring to the absolute furthest edge of the circle.

As soon as she dashed, a small crater formed precisely on the spot she had just been standing on. A deep, fine line was carved right through the middle of it, making it look like two perfect semi-circles. On top of that crater stood Alex.

The cut had been made by his sword and the crater was formed not by his intention, but purely because of the force he carried with him during that attack.

This attack was strong enough to kill a Level 30 beast, much less a Level 16 baby monkey.

Before he could launch another attack, he was abruptly stopped by the teacher.

The old man looked at him with a dark, thunderous face and roared with a terrifying scowl: (╬ Ò﹏Ó)

"DIDN’T I SAY NO LETHAL ATTACKSSSSS?!!"

Alex looked at him without a change in expression; at least, he tried to keep a straight face. But the next words from the teacher surely cracked his calm facade.

"FOR THE NEXT GUIDANCE LECTURE, YOU WILL BE MY PERSONAL TRAINING PARTNER!"

Alex still miraculously managed to keep a straight face in front of the students, but the teacher’s next sentence did him in completely.

"AND WE WILL DO MAGIC FREE-FORM TRAINING! AND YOU WILL BE DOING ALL THE DEMONSTRATIONS!"

The calm and mature Alex now looked like he was about to burst into tears. He felt like a great injustice was being done to him.

He was a sword user! How the heck was he supposed to do demonstrations for magic spells?!

To even perform basic magic, he would have to practice day and night without sleep, and even then he might barely manage a few pitiful demonstrations.

Just when he thought the teacher was done shouting, the old man continued:

"YOU ARE LUCKY SHE DODGED! IF I HAD TO STEP IN TO BLOCK IT, I MIGHT HAVE REALLY SKINNED YOUR BUTTOCKS SO THAT YOU DON’T FORGET THIS LESSON FOR A LIFETIME!"

Alex’s face turned as red as a tomato after hearing that.

Why would you say that out loud?!

Sneaking a quick glance at a girl in the corner who was currently hiding behind her older sister, he fell into pure despair.

Lily:|д・)

Noo... not in front of Lily... no...

With what face am I supposed to ask her out on a date now?

Seeing her hiding behind her sister with a red face after catching him sneaking a look at her, he clutched his chest in agony.

No...

I better just kill myself...

Lily... I promise to find you in the next life...

we will marry and make a lot of babies...
