Chapter 45: You have slain a lvl 62....
As Night and his gang tried to devour the unborn Devil again, they felt an intense energy feedback. For some reason, the Devil was being devoured incredibly quickly.
A massive amount of energy rushed into Night, making him feel like he was floating.
Ahhh... So blissful.
Night:
(-‿-)
And it wasn’t just him; from the looks of it, his friends felt the exact same way.
Others:
( ◡‿◡ )
He almost wanted to scream:
This Devil is delicious!
(๑´ڡ`๑)
Checking his EV, the numbers were climbing like crazy.
[Energy Value (EV): 700]
The energy generation speed was ridiculous. Previously, after their hours-long meditation session he only had about 576 EV.
But the EV just kept climbing.
[Energy Value (EV): 900]
It kept increasing ->1000, 1200 and there was still so much of the Devil left.
It had only shrunk by a little bit...
He almost wanted to thank Blade for bringing them here...
(≧◡≦)
Almost.
...
After its transformation the man looked like a giant. The cane in his hand had somehow transformed alongside him, now looking more like a massive pillar.
As the man swung his weapon it grew in length to reach her. He swung it in such a calculated way that if Blade attempted to dodge, the pillar would end up hitting Night.
It was highly doubtful if Night would survive even a single glancing blow from that weapon.
Because the attack was much slower than their previous exchanges.
Night’s [Beast Instinct] finally activated as sent alarms about his impending doom. He turned his head to look only to see the black giant-like creature swinging that massive pillar like it was a chopstick.
It was pretty obvious that this black giant was an incredibly strong Devil.
But before Night could even think of diving out of the way, Blade responded. The two swords in her hands vanished, replaced by a huge single-edged blade that looked more like a greatsword. It had glowing yellow runic marks etched across its flat side.
Lifting it up she slashed in a smooth downward motion. Immediately the garden lit up, bathing everything in a yellow hue for a split second as her sword clashed with the pillar in the Devil’s hands.
BOOM...
A small crater formed directly beneath where their weapons clashed.
The pillar and the huge blade were locked in place. Blade and the Devil were evenly matched in raw physical strength.
Suddenly, the pillar in the Devil’s hand flashed with a green light. It quickly spread into the surrounding air, transforming into a faint green smoke. Immediately, Blade staggered a bit acting as if she had inhaled something highly poisonous.
From afar, Night saw this and immediately held his breath while commanding the others to seal any kind of olfactory senses they had.
But this failed to stop the smoke from affecting them. Night and Lucy started to feel dizzy while Eve, Lilith, and Death were faring a bit better. It seemed this smoke had a way to affect even those who didn’t rely on air to survive.
The Devil used this momentary lapse to shrink his pillar. Then, he closed the distance to Blade as if he had teleported, swinging the pillar at her in a brutal downward motion.
On pure reflex, Blade used the flat side of her greatsword to block the attack, but it looked like she was finally being overpowered.
Whatever that green smoke was, it seemed to possess the ability to severely weaken its target.
The Devil used the opportunity to launch a heavy kick, but Blade’s white tail whipped out and intercepted it.
Realizing that this was all the Devil was capable of in close combat, she activated a skill.
All of a sudden, many small white blades materialized behind her and shot directly at him. The Devil’s aura blazed as thousands of ghosts erupted from his body, intercepting the sneak attack while simultaneously swarming Blade.
Because her hands were locked in combat, she failed to dodge. Thousands of ghosts phased directly into her body.
Once a ghost enters a person, there is no physical escape. It becomes a brutal battle of souls. Much less now that thousands of them had invaded her, the Devil thought.
As the two fighters separated...
Blade now just stood completely still, without any movement, her entire focus shifted to the spiritual battlefield inside her.
The Devil used this golden opportunity to close in on Night and finish the weaklings off.
The earlier move had severely drained him and he was in a weakened state after using such a deadly attack so he wanted to finish the fight quickly.
The cane grew in size again as a massive pillar was swung toward Night and the boy could literally smell the scent of death approaching.
From the corner of his eye he saw the others abruptly stop devouring the unborn Devil, rushing toward him to do whatever they could to stop the strike.
He could only hope Blade would save him. Just when the huge pillar was about to crush his head, the Devil froze.
Black blood started to pour from its mouth as a white, spear-like object pierced straight through, leaving a huge gaping hole in his chest. As life started to leave the Devil’s body,
Night finally realized what it was: it was Blade’s tail.
Despite his huge size, most of the Devil’s chest was simply gone. The white tail seemed to have enlarged itself during the strike and the wound was filled with sharp blade intent, preventing the Devil from regenerating.
Seeing the Devil stopped in its tracks, Night was furious. It hadn’t even been a week and this was already the third time he was up against an enemy that had the strength to snap him like a twig.
Fueled by pure anger, he activated [Wind Dash] and [Wind Overdrive] to cross the distance to the Devil. He thrust his palm forward, tightly gripping the small black knife with [Over-Sharpen] activated.
His fragile body radiated a faint green light and his eyes turned a piercing greenish-blue. While he still didn’t know how to coat the knife completely with his black fog, he used every ounce of his focus and managed to gather a small, highly condensed dot of black fog right at the tip of the blade.
As Blade saw Night charging toward the Devil instead of running away and she didn’t know what to say.
The Devil, on its final leg, saw Night reach him. It decided to use this opportunity to take the boy down with it.
I’m on death’s door anyway; I might as well take one with me, it thought. Even if it is a weakling. I will just be reborn again in the Great Hell regardless.
When Night’s attack reached its skull, the Devil smirked.
A weak, transparent ghost slipped out of its body charging straight at Night.
The Devil even purposely weakened its facial muscles and reduced its bone density so that when Night’s knife pierced it, it could then harden the bone to trap the weapon. This would leave Night stuck, giving the ghost ample time to deliver a painful death.
Night, high on rage and the massive energy generated from the unborn Devil failed to notice the Devil’s smirk or the tiny ghost heading his way.
Even Blade failed to notice its expression since she was behind the Devil and the tiny ghost was too weak and stealthy to stand out.
But one being did notice.
It was Lucy.
Not wanting to take any chances, she used a trick with a massive energy cost: she entered her own shadow and erupted directly out of Night’s shadow, snapping her jaws shut and eating the tiny ghost before Night’s knife even touched the huge Devil’s skull.
Immediately, Lucy felt intense pain threatening to crush her spirit, but before the ghost could do any real damage, the [Nightmare Domain] connected to her soul shifted. It crushed the ghost like a bug, annihilating it instantly.
Night also sensed what Lucy did after feeling the sudden reaction from the Nightmare Domain. He was further enraged and the black fog at the tip of the knife responded by condensing even further.
Seeing the tiny ghost attack fail, the Devil was not disappointed. It had already expected something like this to happen, so it had prepared a lethal backup attack; one that could have seriously wounded even Blade if used on her.
The black holes serving as the Devil’s eyes began to intensely gather dark energy just as the knife made contact with its skull.
The knife passed through effortlessly, sinking inside its head hilt-deep. But before the Devil could unleash its final attack, the small highly focused dot of black fog at the tip of the knife exploded.
The Devil felt intense, unimaginable pain as its brain was completely devoured by the black fog in a fraction of a second, not giving a damn if it was a strong or weak entity.
To the black fog, Night and the strong Devil were exactly the same... weak.
The Devil didn’t get to scream or even react; it simply died. But before the black fog could touch its soul to devour its records, the Devil forcefully dispersed its own soul, terrified that the black fog might permanently erase it from existence.
[Ding!]

Lucy fell at his side with a soft plop, but Night wasn’t doing much better either. Night collapsed to the ground and he heard three more thuds as Eve, Lilith, and Death fell flat as well.
The blissful feeling this time was so intense that Night was genuinely worried he might become an addict.
All the pain Lucy had felt after eating the ghost was instantly overwhelmed by a new, blissful feeling of evolution.
Even he hadn’t expected that his stupid, suicidal attack would result in this.
He also heard a massive ring of notifications from the System but he was far too stoned on leveling energy to check them right now.
