"Doctor, how is it? Is there a baby?"

Fang Ye sat on the chair, nervously awaiting the verdict!

Lin Ying looked at the ultrasound image on the screen, slowly nodded her head, turned around and revealed a smile, "Congratulations, you’re expecting!"

Fang Ye laughed out loud with glee and turned to Red Bean, who was sitting on the bed undergoing the examination, and said with a smile, "Red Bean, well done! I knew you could do it!"

Red Bean might not have understood the purpose of the device moving around on her stomach, but ever since mating with Chestnut, she had been undergoing ultrasound training and was very familiar with the procedure. During the checkup, she was endearingly docile and munched on an apple, very cooperative.

She took the apple and began eating it contentedly.

Guan Shan stroked Red Bean’s head and rewarded her with another apple, while teasing from the side, "Director, your conversation could easily be misunderstood!"

The gestation period for a red panda is generally about 120 days, or 4 months.

They enter estrus around early March and give birth between May and July.

Red Bean and Chestnut mated at the end of March, meaning the cubs are expected to be born in July.

Recently, the zoo has introduced quite a few new animals. With the completion of Waterfowl Lake and the plateau animal exhibit, along with the festival rewards from World Blue Planet Day, the green leaf coin balance has increased a bit.

Just for the Pallas’s cat, a rare plateau animal, they were awarded a direct 60,000 green leaf coins.

Fang Ye plans to construct the Crane Pavilion next and introduce some red-crowned cranes, crested ibises, and others.

The construction of the Crane Pavilion requires fewer green leaf coins, similar to Waterfowl Lake. After all, these birds can be managed with clipped wings, so there’s no need for large enclosures to confine them.

Next, they’ll bring in giraffes and hippos, which are also iconic animals of the zoo!

The towering stature of giraffes, their long necks, and graceful demeanour are highly captivating to visitors, much like elephants, making them very appealing animals to watch.

The exhibit area will be set at 5,000 square meters.

Part of the ground will be dry sand and gigantic rocks, with another part covered in grassland, to mimic the landscape of tropical savannas.

As large herbivores from tropical regions, giraffes can withstand high temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius for short periods, but they must have shade, either from tall plants or shade structures, to avoid direct sunlight.

Therefore, they will plant some tall sweet acacia trees in the exhibit.

In the system construction interface, these natural materials like trees and rocks are the cheapest.

Compared to elephants, giraffes are less dangerous and allow for closer contact.

So Fang Ye placed two elevated platforms on the edge of the exhibit area, allowing visitors to observe at the same height as the giraffes’ heads and put feeding baskets next to the platforms.

When the giraffes come to eat, visitors will be able to see their big eyes and long eyelashes up close, as the animals curiously gaze back while nibbling on treats—this experience is definitely going to be fun.

Above the observation decks, as well as near the front visitor viewpoints, they can plant some tall cacti and such to create a tropical atmosphere and enhance the immersive experience.

For the outdoor visiting area, there will be a moat, serving as a barrier and also offering a view of giraffes bending down to drink.

The way giraffes drink is quite amusing!

Since their legs are so long, they cannot reach the ground even when they bend their necks.

They have to do the splits, spreading their legs to lower themselves enough to drink water, and then they stagger a bit as they stand back up.

Some zoos provide elevated water sources to let giraffes drink easily without having to bend and split.

However, Fang Ye felt that this method of drinking was a natural exercise for their cardiovascular system, maintaining their health and showcasing this interesting natural behavior to visitors.

If there were older giraffes or those in poor health, then he would specifically create an elevated drinking spot for them.

Building the giraffe exhibit cost 200,000 green leaf coins.

And then there were the hippos, the hippopotamus exhibit was set at 3,000 square meters.

Hippos are semi-aquatic, living in grasslands or shrub habitats, often active in rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. They need water to regulate their body temperature and protect their skin, so water is essential.

The highlight of the hippo display is watching their underwater activities. Fang Ye designed it similarly to the crocodile exhibit where visitors can enjoy watching them swim underwater through the glass curtain wall.

In front of the glass curtain wall, the visitor’s pathway is shaped into an uneven "⊃," with an irregular wall surface resembling the eroded banks of the Nile River, enhancing the immersion experience.

It cost 200 thousand green leaf coins.

Hippos are not very particular about where they defecate, which makes the water extremely dirty, making the water treatment system very important and also the most expensive part.

So even though the area is smaller than the giraffe exhibit, the green leaf coins needed for construction are a bit more.

Fang Ye was designing the exhibits in his house, stretched his arms, and took a sip of water!

Hearing the continuous "cicada cicada cicada" chorus outside, he felt somewhat moved and exclaimed, "Summer has already arrived, huh!"

There aren’t many cicadas now, but by June it’ll be a cacophony, the loud sounds are unbearably noisy.

He planned to go out for a stroll, to see the lovely animals and clear his mind a bit.

...

The tiger exhibit!

Now that it’s summer, the tigers have started to use the pool more frequently.

Jiaojiao lay by the poolside, took a couple of sips of water, and splashed the water with her paws, as if testing the temperature.

Ice Cake couldn’t wait and had already jumped into the water!

When Ice Cake was smaller, Jiaojiao was afraid it would drown, so she would pick it up with her mouth whenever it went near the pool. However, as Ice Cake grew, she no longer restricted it.

Tigers have the innate ability to swim encoded in their genes, no teaching required; they just jump in the water and figure it out themselves after a few splashes.

Ice Cake did the doggy paddle in the water, having a great time.

In this kind of weather, sitting in the cool water is unbelievably refreshing.

Seeing this, Jiaojiao also entered the water.

Her massive paws clung to the edge of the bank, her upper body emerged above the water, her mouth slightly open, eyes squinted, she looked as comfortable as if she was soaking in a hot spring.

Ice Cake stealthily swam up to Jiaojiao and suddenly slapped her from the side with a paw, a sneak attack!

Jiaojiao turned her head abruptly, and Ice Cake immediately leaped onto the bank, happy as a lively little colt, shaking its tail and darting away.

You can’t catch me~

Jiaojiao glanced at Ice Cake’s retreating figure, shook her head, seemingly speechless.

Fang Ye arrived just in time to see this scene.

He couldn’t help but laugh, Ice Cake was still as mischievous as ever.

Thinking that it had been a while since he swam with the tigers, he felt an itch to join in and went back to change into swimming trunks.

He changed clothes in the back house, entered the activity field in his swimming trunks.

He greeted them with a smile, "Jiaojiao! Ice Cake!"

Upon seeing Fang Ye, Jiaojiao immediately got excited and leapt out of the water onto the bank!

She shook the water droplets from her body and took a few big steps running up to him.
