Chapter 326: Chapter 325: The Returning Companion
The array for Tier Two Magic wasn’t complicated. At least, according to the thick book, you only needed to carve a circle and then, inside the circle, an eye with three diagonal lines across its pupil.
After completing all this, Colin took out a dried radish to use as the Casting Material.
After placing the dried radish on the Crystal Plate, he closed his eyes and began chanting the Spell.
As the final syllable faded, Colin opened his eyes and looked down.
He could clearly see a faint, iridescent light seeping from between his fingers. It slowly dimmed until it vanished completely.
Colin felt a strange sensation in a part of his brain, similar to the feeling of Casting Magic.
It was as if the mental energy for Tier One and Tier Two Magic was drawn from different parts of his brain, and the energy for crafting equipment came from yet another, separate area.
This meant there was likely a limit to how much equipment he could create. Based on his experience with Casting, Colin estimated he could probably make two such Magic Items.
’Either way, I should check the finished product first.’
Colin opened his hands and carefully examined the Crystal Plate resting in his palm.
The Array carved on the Crystal Plate had vanished without a trace, as if it had never been there.
"Did it work?"
Langgrin’s voice came from beside him. Colin suppressed his excitement and said with feigned nonchalance, "I’m going to go test it."
He walked out of the room into the dark corridor and placed the Crystal Plate before his eyes.
Through the lens, the pitch-black scene slowly resolved into shades of white and gray, which formed the rough outline of the corridor.
He could make out the scene before him from the textures, contours, and varying shades of these colors, much like watching a black and white movie.
’So this is what Kase’s vision is like in the dark?’ Colin wondered.
"No need to keep looking. It worked, but the quality is a bit poor," Langgrin said from beside him. "I didn’t expect you to succeed on your first try. Now, go stick it onto that Dog-faced Helmet. I’ll help you make adjustments if there are any issues."
The two of them worked on it a bit more, using glue to attach the two Crystal Plates behind the Helmet’s vision slits.
[Night Vision Dog-faced Helmet/Inferior Magical Item]
[Darkvision: While this item is equipped, you gain Darkvision with a range of fifteen meters.]
Colin held the Dog-faced Helmet, looking it up and down.
’This is the first time I’ve seen an ’Inferior’ quality Magic Item.’
’Still, it’s not bad. At least I made it myself.’
"Alright, that’s enough for today. It’s getting late." Langgrin stretched, and a series of CRACKS and POPS echoed from the dwarf’s bones.
"Alright, see you tomorrow." After speaking, Colin put the Helmet on, pulled down the Face Mask, and turned to head out.
As he reached Donkexes’s herb shop, he suddenly saw a small figure by the counter. Ale was sitting there quietly, one hand propping up her cheek and the other turning the pages of a book. She looked particularly languid, like a little cat taking a nap.
"You haven’t gone home yet, Ale?" Colin asked.
"Let’s go together." Ale rose gracefully from her chair.
Colin said, a bit awkwardly, "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"I didn’t mind waiting."
The two of them walked together down the moonlit street, making small talk about all sorts of things. They eventually returned to their apartment in the Dock District, washed up, and went to bed.
「Time passed.」
Early the next morning, just as Colin was using his Armor Technique to don his gear, there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Coming!"
He called out in response, then grabbed the Wrist Guard floating in mid-air and fastened it to his forearm himself.
When he opened the door, Orelia and Edwin were standing on his doorstep, with Ale right behind them.
"You finished your training?" Colin said, pleasantly surprised. "Congratulations, Orelia."
The Tiefling lowered her head bashfully, only daring to peek at him from under her lashes.
Colin looked down.
Unfortunately, her feet hadn’t changed back. They were still hooves.
"It’s over, but there are a few key points I’d like to discuss. I’m a bit pressed for time, so I’ll need you to pass the message along to Mr. Kase," Edwin said.
Colin quickly ushered him into the room.
Just as he was about to offer the man his only chair, Edwin smiled, waved it away, and stood silently by the window.
"This is a bit more troublesome than we’d imagined. Orelia’s bloodline originates from the Desire Demon Queen of the Nine Jails. It could be that one of Orelia’s ancestors made a deal with this Duke of the Devil, or perhaps there’s another reason. In any case, the Purgatory Energy that seeped from the Array has purified her bloodline."
"How will this affect her life?" Colin asked.
"The downside is that her mind and soul will be gradually twisted until she becomes a truly evil creature. My necklace should help suppress that to some extent—but it doesn’t mean the problem is completely solved. We’ll just have to wait and see."
Edwin continued, "On the other hand, because of the bloodline purification, Orelia’s physical coordination is much better than before, and she has also gained some ability to cast Magic."
Orelia uttered a word in the language of Purgatory.
She tapped her foot lightly on the ground, and in the next moment, her small hooves slowly transformed into a pair of Leather Boots.
"The Disguise Technique? That’s quite useful."
"I also learned the Cantrip, Secondary Illusion. But I can only use the Disguise Technique once per day," Orelia said.
"Furthermore, with her training, Orelia is now a Priest capable of using Tier Two Divine Skill."
Edwin continued, "As for a creature of the Lower Realm using Divine Art, a friend of mine is quite experienced. The key is that the Morninglord is more inclined to grant Divine Power to individuals with greater resolve.
If a creature who has already become infernal maintains a devout attitude and prays for Divine Art, the effect they receive might be even stronger."
Colin suddenly recalled the scene of Orelia casting a Divine Art right after she woke up.
’She gets burned by Divine Art. If the Power of her Divine Art increases without limit...’
"If the Divine Art becomes too strong, will Orelia get hurt from it?" Colin asked.
"Yes. And she would be severely injured. In the most extreme cases, she could even lose her life," Edwin said gravely. "So, I know it may be pointless for me to say this, but I hope you won’t push yourselves too hard."
Hearing this, Colin nodded gravely.
"Well, that’s all I have to say. I should be going. The last time I rode a Griffin in the city, I was caught red-handed by the Griffin Knights. It was terribly embarrassing." Edwin added with a smile, making a lighthearted joke before heading for the door.
After taking just a couple of steps, he turned back. "Oh, right, I almost forgot. Your promotion ceremony might be delayed by a little over half a month. The other team that was up for promotion has been held up. Is that alright?"
"We’re planning a trip to the Undercity soon. That shouldn’t be a problem, should it?" Colin asked.
"It won’t be. Worst case, they’ll just have to wait for you to get back," Edwin said, then quickly headed downstairs.
Colin and the others hurried to follow, intending to see him off.
