Chapter 312: Chapter 311: The Experience of Casting
"A half-finished Enchantment."
"Very accurate. A very basic and primitive half-finished product." Langgrin smiled. "So, if you want to improve, what do you need to do?"
"Study Magic Items?" Colin frowned. "Are you telling me I have to learn Forging?"
"The most basic level of Forging and Enchantment. Human lifespans are too short. Unless you’re an absolute genius, forcing this kind of training won’t yield any good results.
So, what you’ll learn next is the simplest Forging and other crafts. This will allow you to, just like how you tamed your own Armor, affix basic Magic to other equipment," Langgrin said.
"This way, I’ll be able to create my own Magic Items?" Colin asked.
At this point in the conversation, Colin was getting a little excited.
’If I can make my own Magic Items, that would be absolutely fantastic!’
’Even the lowest-level Magic Items are extremely useful, not to mention very expensive. If I learn this, I could even retire and become a Magic Craftsman someday.’
"I know what you’re thinking. Stop dreaming."
Langgrin tried to snap his fingers in front of him, but since he couldn’t reach, he just awkwardly wiped his hands on his clothes.
"The Magic Items created through this method are only the most basic kind. They’re sustained by your Magic Power. If you kick the bucket, they’ll quickly turn into useless scrap metal with no magic left. They’re a far cry from real Magic Items."
"That’s still pretty good."
"If you’re going to come over to learn later, prepare a mending kit and a blacksmith’s kit beforehand—you can just go to the general store and tell the owner you need those two things to buy them."
"You guys aren’t going to give me a set?"
"Stay away from my stuff," Langgrin said irritably. "We’ve been blacklisted by several merchant guilds. We had to pay a fortune for this stuff on the black market."
"Alright, I won’t covet anything from your illegal little workshop." Colin shrugged and walked toward the training ground with a CLANG and a CLATTER.
Seeing this, Langgrin followed him.
After they passed through a few corridors, Langgrin said, "I have to be honest with you now, kid."
"Honest about what?"
"We really didn’t expect you to learn this fast, even though we already knew you had a knack for it. Our original plan was to just teach you a few things and let you puzzle over them for the rest of your life until you kicked the bucket in a daze."
Colin didn’t know what to say, so he just joked, "Thanks for your kind intentions."
"Don’t worry. At least Durkin will definitely keep his word." Langgrin waved his hand. "That guy Donkexes was a bit too serious last time. I don’t want you to overthink things."
The two of them arrived at the training ground as they talked.
At that moment, Kase was swinging an axe nearby. According to him, using the axe outside of his [Frenzy] state was good for building strength.
Donkexes, who also happened to be in the training ground, walked over and asked, "What are you doing here dressed like that?"
"Trying out some Magic. Don’t worry, I’m just testing [Blade Ward]," Colin said, waving his hand.
After speaking, he first drew [Burning Blood] from his waist and tried to enter his Sword Dance state.
Unlike the previous feeling of it coming to him instantly, this time Colin felt as if his arm had been chopped off. He couldn’t enter the once-familiar state no matter how he tried.
Colin took a deep breath.
He struck a pose and began Casting.
Because of the metal Arm Guards and Shoulder Guard, Colin struggled to move his arms in front of him. In other words, he knew his movements weren’t precise, but his arms just couldn’t stretch any further.
Moreover, he could clearly feel that his connection to the Magic Net had weakened significantly.
Normally, Casting felt like using his hands to guide water in a basin to where he wanted it. But now, Colin felt like he was trying to make a river flow backward with his bare hands.
As the Magic progressed, he had a vague sense of foreboding.
The moment the Magic was complete, there was a strange BUZZ. The palm of Colin’s hand, held in front of his chest, suddenly went numb, and then the Glove on it flew right off.
The eyes of the two Dwarves and Colin followed the Glove as it traced a perfect arc through the air before landing squarely on Kase’s head.
The Half-Orc froze for a moment, then snorted like a horse.
"My bad." Colin gave an embarrassed smile and waved at him.
’This should count as a spell failure, right?’ He really hadn’t expected something like this to happen.
"I really wanna punch you a couple times," Kase said, then casually threw the Glove back.
"Stop messing around. Casting while wearing this level of Armor is very difficult. Langgrin, why didn’t you stop this little guy from doing something so foolish?" Donkexes said.
Langgrin shrugged. "Great. Now it’s all Langgrin’s fault."
Colin slid the Glove back onto his hand and sighed.
If possible, he still really wanted to wear this suit of Heavy Armor.
After all, when one’s Casting Ability wasn’t particularly strong, Armor was still very useful for Defense. Looking at what happened recently, Battier and the others were completely saved by their Armor.
’It would be great if I could cast Magic in a full suit of Plate Armor in the future, but unfortunately, that’s not possible.’
Seeing his hesitation, Langgrin, who was standing beside him, spoke up. "If you insist on wearing it, I can simplify this suit of Armor for you. It should just barely allow you to cast Magic."
Colin nodded.
But Langgrin added, "It won’t be free this time. The specific optimizations will require a lot of time for careful polishing. I’ll also need to forge some other parts and give the Armor a full overhaul and maintenance."
"In that case, can I give you the Gloves and Plate Armor boots I took off? If any parts of this Armor need to be replaced, you can have those too," Colin said.
Langgrin nodded.
With Langgrin’s direction and help, Colin took off the Chest Guard, Gloves, and Leg Guards, then put on his old Centurion Breastplate.
This meant completely sacrificing any Defense for his thighs.
"Later, the metal Shoulder Guard and other components will need to be polished and cut. The Defense definitely won’t be as good as before, but it will allow you a greater range of motion."
Langgrin asked, "That should be acceptable, right?"
Colin took a moment to get used to the Armor on his body.
Dressed like this, he felt much lighter. ’Once the modifications are done, if I add [Empowerment Armor] on top of it, this might actually work.’
"Alright, take the Armor off. I’ll take it to be modified right away."
Then, the two Dwarves next to him helped him struggle out of the Armor. As Langgrin tied the pieces of Armor together, he added, "Don’t forget to come find me later to continue your lessons."
