Chapter 62: Chapter 57: It Actually Dropped Gear?
Luh Yao scooped up a spoonful of rice soaked in sauce.
Among the many dishes that went well with rice, shredded pork with green peppers was one of the most reliable choices.
Since it didn’t use many strong seasonings, the taste was pretty much the same no matter which kitchen made it.
However, the Blood Knight’s battles always brought something new to the table, making them the exact opposite of the predictable shredded pork dish.
This time was no exception.
Faced with a group attack from the Ghouls, the Blood Knight chose to make a tactical retreat, fighting as he fell back.
Luh Yao had no idea what he was up to.
’Is the pressure really that intense?’
He clicked on a Ghoul to check the monster’s details.
...
[Ghoul LV40]
Life Value: 1201/1201
Mana Value: 443/443
Damage: 39
Defense: 36
Speed: 12
[Decaying Food]
Can slowly recover Life Value and Mana Value by devouring corpses or rotting matter.
[Poisoned LV10]
Attacks cause the enemy to become poisoned, dealing continuous damage.
[Self-Destruction LV1]
Upon death, its corpse will detonate, dealing area-of-effect damage. The damage is related to the ability’s level.
...
’They’re not that strong.’
Luh Yao was completely baffled.
The Ghouls were level 40, but their stats were unremarkable. They were a melee type, which the Blood Knight feared the least. At most, their Self-Destruction dealt considerable damage. In terms of sheer intimidation, they couldn’t even compare to the level 30 Mad Skinners he had seen before.
As the Blood Knight continued to maneuver, he attracted more and more Ghouls from all directions.
’Is he trying to pull them all? To deal with them all at once?’
Luh Yao noticed that the Blood Knight was relentlessly attacking a single Ghoul. He ignored the bites and scratches from the surrounding Ghouls, focusing only on swinging his greatsword to slash at that one target.
The targeted Ghoul was pitch-black with four arms and was dragging a heavy iron hook.
It had no facial features, only a gaping, whirlpool-like maw on its head. Golden chains were bound around its pitch-black body, dragging on the ground with their other ends buried in the earth.
...
[Corpse Hunter LV51] Guer
Life Value: 2974/2974
Mana Value: 843/843
Damage: 81
Defense: 45
Speed: 16
[Decaying Food]
Can slowly recover Life Value and Mana Value by devouring corpses or rotting matter.
[Blood and Flesh Refining]
Possesses special resistance to poison damage.
[Sewn Corpse]
Splits off and sews its own flesh and power into corpses to create Ghouls.
[Poisoned LV20]
Attacks cause the enemy to become poisoned, dealing continuous damage.
[Mad Taunt LV5]
When this ability is activated, enemies must attack it for a short time; otherwise, their Attack, Defense, and Speed will be reduced. The taunt duration and the degree of reduction depend on the ability’s level.
[Corpse Hunter Mark Lv1]
Places a mark on prey for tracking. When attacking the prey, the mark is triggered, dealing extra damage.
...
Only then did Luh Yao realize there was a small [Taunt] icon above the Blood Knight’s head.
Guer the Corpse Hunter had activated [Mad Taunt], forcing the Blood Knight to attack him.
Swarmed by the mob, the Blood Knight ignored them completely, his greatsword aimed only at Guer the Corpse Hunter.
Damage numbers continuously appeared above the Corpse Hunter’s head.
-79
-79
-79
The Corpse Hunter swung the iron hook in its hands and moved continuously, trying to lock the Blood Knight in place. However, since the Blood Knight was already in close range, they couldn’t create any distance.
The Corpse Hunter couldn’t break free from the melee.
Meanwhile, the horde of Ghouls desperately attacked the Blood Knight’s back. Their attacks couldn’t break through his defense, but their Poisoned trait took effect, causing a -1 damage number to slowly appear above the Blood Knight’s head.
The whole scene looked more like Guer the Corpse Hunter was leading a party of underlings, skillfully trying to challenge the Blood Knight, who seemed to be the real boss.
Soon, the Blood Knight recovered from the taunt.
The greatsword in his hand changed from blood-red to azure, and an [Enchantment] status appeared above his head.
The Blood Knight struck the Corpse Hunter with his sword.
-104
Luh Yao took a mouthful of rice from his spoon, chewing it with the green peppers.
This was the effect of activating [Enchantment LV25].
It consumed 25 Mana per second, but each attack also gained 25 damage—a very high bonus.
After Necied the Blood Knight entered his [Enchantment] mode, Guer the Corpse Hunter also used [Corpse Hunter Mark], causing a red Cross Star to appear beneath the Blood Knight’s feet.
However, the Corpse Hunter’s damage against the Blood Knight was very limited, with each attack only dealing -33.
Luh Yao pulled up a calculator to do the math. Purely in terms of stats, after the Blood Knight’s 68 Defense was subtracted, the Corpse Hunter should have only dealt 13 damage.
The [Corpse Hunter Mark] must have triggered some kind of damage bonus.
What reassured Luh Yao was that the Corpse Hunter wasn’t fast.
This stat affected both movement speed and attack interval, which was the Blood Knight’s weakest area, yet the Corpse Hunter held no advantage.
The entire battle devolved into a contest of raw stats and health pools—the Blood Knight’s specialty.
The Corpse Hunter’s health steadily dropped. His earlier confidence completely vanished, and he finally shouted at the Blood Knight.
"We don’t need to fight to the death."
"This is all a misunderstanding! We have no reason to fight for our lives here! It’s meaningless, there’s no benefit to it!"
"I get it! You were dragged in here too! How about I give you the territory around here?"
"Stop, stop!"
"Dammit! Are you an idiot made of scrap metal?!"
"I told you to stop! You damned, stupid tin can!"
The Corpse Hunter was desperate.
But Luh Yao noticed that Guer had actually activated [Mad Taunt] again.
It was all a feint, a Disguise.
More Ghouls clawed their way out of the ground, throwing themselves at the Blood Knight wave after wave.
The instant they made contact with Necied, the Ghouls’ bodies suddenly exploded!
Their Self-Destruction ability had activated.
A large number of Ghouls burst into pieces, causing several -20 damage indicators to pop up over the Blood Knight’s head.
Luh Yao wasn’t worried.
The Blood Knight still had over a thousand Life Value, while Guer the Corpse Hunter opposite him was down to just 200.
Necied struck twice with his sword, taking down Guer the Corpse Hunter.
As its health bar emptied, the word [DEAD] appeared above the Corpse Hunter’s head. The Corpse Hunter’s body shattered into pieces on the ground, and black smoke billowed from within it, sucked into the deeper parts of the Abyss by some unknown force.
The Blood Knight rummaged through the corpse fragments for a moment and actually found a piece of loot.
"Lord God, the enemy has been eliminated."
Necied knelt on one knee as a scissor-shaped Artifact floated up from the ground into the air.
Luh Yao double-clicked the scissors, and a description appeared beneath the Artifact.
...
[Taunting Scissors LV5]: Damage +1, Defense +4. Can activate [Mad Taunt LV5].
...
’The monster bosses here actually drop equipment?’
Luh Yao was stunned.
In many games, it was standard for monsters to drop equipment and Gold Coins. But God Simulator itself was so unusual that it didn’t fall within the realm of common sense.
Compared to the Golden Field, the Black Abyss seemed a bit more straightforward.
He glanced out of the corner of his eye at the potted plant on his computer desk.
’This little guy might know something.’
"Xiaohuo."
"I am listening to your teachings, Great God." The Cactus Ball Attendant’s tone was as humble as ever.
"Do you know about the Black Abyss?"
"Lord God, your servant knows little."
Upon hearing the name, the Cactus Ball’s voice became cautious.
"The Black Abyss is where the Forest God sealed away some of the most ferocious and frenzied monsters. Even the Forest God couldn’t pacify the creatures within, so He sealed them away to prevent them from causing disasters in the outside world."
A phrase flashed through Luh Yao’s mind: ’A Main God’s prison?’
’Is that really it?’
[These are the roots of the Silvanus Tree, where I have also left my most precious legacy and my greatest regrets...]
The hint left by the Forest God seemed to hold a deeper meaning.
For now, Luh Yao remained cautiously skeptical.
