Chapter 60: Chapter 55: The Prayer God Has Fallen
The Blood Knight, Necied, was a humanoid weapon. The Whistleblower had created him for the sole purpose of executing orders mechanically.
Facing the civilians of the East Sea Clan, Necied showed no mercy, faithfully following his order: eliminate the enemy.
The Blood Knight used his greatsword to slaughter every living creature within his sight.
If they weren’t one of his own, they were an enemy.
That was his understanding.
Luh Yao had no choice but to grab the Blood Knight with his mouse cursor and force him to stay put for the time being.
If he let Necied continue like this, the entire East Sea Clan would be wiped out.
This was not Luh Yao’s objective.
He still needed to observe this clan and win over its population if possible.
Luh Yao suddenly discovered that when he selected the Blood Knight, an option bar appeared above the Pixel Knight’s head.
[Manual Mode]
[Auto Mode]
Right now, [Auto Mode] was lit up, while [Manual Mode] was grayed out. Isabel, however, had no such options above her head. Luh Yao was absolutely certain of it—clearly, Isabel possessed some kind of uniqueness among the Apostles.
Luh Yao clicked on [Manual Mode].
Necied’s body froze, and he stopped moving.
The game interface was suddenly filled with new information.
Long red and blue bars for Life Value and Mana Value appeared in the bottom-left corner.
Life Value: 2814/3850
Mana Value: 937/937
In the bottom-right corner, three Active Skills slots appeared: [Corruption Creation], [Enchantment], and [Fleshly Weakness].
Luh Yao tried right-clicking, and sure enough, the Blood Knight moved accordingly. He clicked on a nearby water bird, and the Blood Knight slashed it with his sword. A Damage Value of -123 appeared over the bird’s head, and it died on the spot.
’So this is another way to use an Apostle.’
A Divine Player could directly control them manually.
A strange thought crossed Luh Yao’s mind. ’Is this what they mean in some Myths and legends by a Divine Spirit’s possession? Or a brief descent into the mortal world?’
Although Luh Yao’s micromanagement skills were pretty average, with a top-tier character in hand, he didn’t need to worry about positioning at all. He just had to A-move all the way.
In fact, he was just guiding the Blood Knight along the island’s coast. The pixelated people along the way scattered in all directions, screaming as if they had seen a ghost.
Luh Yao controlled the Blood Knight, leading him across the outer beaches and to the main encampment of the East Sea Clan.
The East Sea Clan’s settlement was built on a small hill on the island, with houses constructed from wood and palm leaves. This style of living among the trees reminded Luh Yao of the Forest Tribe’s treehouses.
The East Sea Clan numbered over a thousand people, scattered across different hilltops. In addition to their simple dwellings, they had also built many wooden statues.
These statues surrounded a magnificent blue stone sculpture.
A Divine Prayer Totem.
Luh Yao had already smashed two of them. He was very familiar with it.
Today, he had come to the East Sea Clan for one reason: to tear this thing down.
Destroying the Totem was equivalent to smashing the greenhouse that protected these pixelated people.
The entire East Sea Clan, just like the East River Tribe, would lose its resistance to natural disasters. Without the support of Divine Power, they would be forced to change once again just to survive.
Luh Yao moved the Blood Knight next to the Totem and had the character swing his greatsword at it. The surrounding people of the East Sea Clan watched from a distance in terror, but they didn’t dare to approach.
A stream of "-0" values continuously appeared over the Divine Prayer Totem.
Even with the Blood Knight’s level and combat stats, he was surprisingly unable to damage the Divine Totem.
Luh Yao recalled what Chapman, the mayor of Saniluo, had said.
"Mortal power cannot destroy a Divine Totem. It is a mark left by a God. Even if you destroy the physical statue, the mark will remain."
An Apostle could not destroy a Divine Totem on their own.
Only a God could oppose a God.
Of course, there was another way: he could expel all the people of the East Sea Clan from the island. Then, even with the Totem’s protection, the island would gradually become abandoned.
However, that method wouldn’t completely eliminate the Faith in the Prayer God left here. What Luh Yao needed was to first destroy all traces of the Prayer God, and then absorb a portion of the East Sea Clan’s population to build something new from the ruins.
Luh Yao didn’t hold back. He directly opened the [Miracle] menu and unleashed [Lightning] to bombard it!
Flashes of lightning enveloped the sky above the Totem. Streaks of blue-white electricity rained down, continuously chipping away at the Totem’s unrevealed durability.
After withstanding 50 bolts of lightning, the giant blue Totem finally crashed to the ground.
This scene plunged the people of the East Sea Clan into despair.
The female warriors who had previously dared to fight the Blood Knight to the death were now trembling all over, with Fear and Chaos emojis popping up above their heads.
They could only cry out, numb and terrified.
"The Prayer God has fallen!"
"The God’s Totem has collapsed! The God’s protection is gone!"
"God, oh God, oh God, have you abandoned the East Sea Clan?"
"Don’t leave us, oh God, great Prayer God..."
"Why is this happening? What’s wrong with the world?"
"God, oh God, take me with you, take me with you, I beg you."
...
At that moment, Luh Yao’s attention was on the wreckage of the Totem.
A large, black hole had appeared there.
A blue, long-necked Sea Monster was slowly crawling out of the hole.
It was shaped like a great serpent, its head covered in sharp horns. Its massive torso was like a small mountain, with even more of its body hidden inside the hole.
When the Giant Monster appeared, the people of the East Sea Clan, who had been crying in terror, suddenly grew excited.
"Lord Kraken has awakened!"
"The legendary great Sea Demon, Lord Kraken, a follower of the great Prayer God!"
"Lord Kraken is here! We’re saved!"
"He’ll definitely drive off this terrifying humanoid monster!"
"Go, Lord Kraken!"
"Show him what you’re made of! This Undying monster is a Blasphemer! Unleash your Divine Power, Lord Kraken!"
As soon as the monster named Kraken appeared, the East Sea Clan seemed to have found their backbone, their confidence soaring.
Luh Yao quickly clicked to open its detailed stat panel.
...
[Sea Monster Kraken LV22]
Life Value: 388/388
Mana Value: 111/111
Damage: 18
Defense: 14
Speed: 11
[Water Element]
Can continuously restore Life Value while in water. Attacks are imbued with Water Element damage.
[Heavy Strike Lv10]
Has a chance to deal extra damage when attacking.
[Range Lv5]
Can attack enemies from a distance. The range is dependent on the ability’s level.
...
’That’s it?’
The tense, cautious feeling Luh Yao had been holding onto instantly dissipated.
He thought a big boss was coming, but it turned out to be just an Elite Monster.
’Is it looking down on me?’
It seemed the Prayer God really wasn’t all that powerful, not on the same level as the Whistleblower or the Skinner. The minions sent by those two were all top-quality, giving Luh Yao a very hard time and being incredibly difficult to deal with.
Facing the Blood Knight, the Sea Monster Kraken launched an attack!
Luh Yao clicked on the [In Combat] indicator above the Blood Knight’s head to watch the battle in real time.
The ground around the Sea Monster Kraken cracked and collapsed, forming large holes. From these holes shot pillars of water shaped like Sea Demons, all rushing toward the Blood Knight.
However, these ranged attacks couldn’t even break the Blood Knight’s defense. A constant stream of "-0" damage indicators just kept popping up over his head.
Luh Yao had the Blood Knight charge forward and A-move the Sea Monster.
One slash from the Blood Knight.
A "-106" appeared over the Sea Monster Kraken’s head.
Luh Yao hit it with four slashes. The Sea Monster’s health bar emptied, it fell backward, and the word [DEATH] appeared above its head.
And just like that, after its grand entrance, the Sea Monster Kraken died in the blink of an eye, becoming a giant corpse floating on the water.
The East Sea Clan couldn’t believe their eyes.
"...Lord Kraken, get up! Keep fighting, fight!"
"Lord Kraken, come on, get up! You can definitely defeat that evil murderer! We’ll give you all our strength!"
"You’re a powerful great Sea Demon, come back to life!"
"It’s fake, it’s all fake! Lord Kraken is just playing dead! It’s a tactic to make the enemy underestimate him..."
Luh Yao didn’t do anything either. He just stood there, watching to see if the Sea Monster was actually faking its death. Maybe it would have a second-phase transformation or something.
A few minutes passed, and the Sea Monster’s corpse sank completely beneath the water.
It looked well and truly dead.
The people of the East Sea Clan finally came to their senses, once again succumbing to their earlier despair and fear.
"Lord Kraken has fallen!"
