Chapter 8: Magic and Holy Power

After nearly seven minutes had passed, the excruciating pain in Dean’s body had begun to subside, albeit slowly.

The pain was still there, but that was only to be expected. After all, his muscles had literally torn themselves apart and rebuilt themselves.

In a dazed state, he was lying down on the floor right next to his computer desk.

Breathing had become easier now.

He hadn’t read anything about this on the forum.

"What the fuck is happening?" Dean muttered to himself. He was practically screaming inside his head.

He could feel the warmth around him more clearly.

There was blood everywhere.

Even so, Dean was preoccupied with breathing. He really wasn’t in a state to worry about the blood.

[Congratulations, Host!

You have gained the Magic/Holy Power Energies.

Since your body is special, your soul is incredibly strong, and your fate is bright, the Beginning Liquid has deemed you worthy of those two energies.

The system hopes that your path will be open and free.

With the power of money, of course.]

Dean smiled as he struggled to read the text on this system window that had suddenly appeared before him.

"I thought we could only get one energy type," the young man muttered.

Indeed, that was the case.

These types of power, regarded as energies, were rather complex matters. To put it plainly, it would certainly be correct to view them as a person’s soul.

The soul’s level of power, function, sanctity and many other factors determined which energy a person could harbour within their body.

Magic represented mana, Holy Power represented sacred powers, and Yin and Yang represented the dead and other forces, each having their own specific manifestations.

Magic and Holy Power, in turn, represented a person’s purity.

In this instance, the Beginning Liquid, that semi-living fluid, had scrutinised Dean’s very soul.

That meant his soul was bright as the sun, pure as light itself. Therefore, he got the magic, which is the power around the galaxy, and Holy Power, which is literally the power sacred beings use.

As a result, it had become possible for an event known as ’Double Quality’ to occur, an occurrence that, whilst not entirely unprecedented, was incredibly rare.

Dean possessed both Magic and Holy Power.

That was precisely why he had been in pain.

That was why his blood had flowed, and why his muscles and veins had changed.

Everyone derived their powers from their souls, and this applied to Dean as well. Yet there was a difference between him and ordinary people:

As Dean had acquired both powers simultaneously, his body would be unable to withstand it.

Beginning Liquid had done all this to bring his body up to the required level of power.

The young man stood up, and the moment he did, another small system message appeared before him:

[The host can access his ’Profile’ from now until the end of time.]

When the young man read this, he furrowed his brow, trying to understand exactly what it meant.

"Profile?" the young man asked, but just as he did so, the system message in front of him vanished, and instead a large system window opened before him:

[Dean #####

Age: 22

Race: Human

Magic Energy: First-Class

Holy Power Energy: First-Class

Summons: -

Skills: -]

As the young man looked carefully at the system profile, he learnt two things he hadn’t known before.

The first was that it actually had a section labelled ’skills’.

Another, of course, was the section called ’summons’.

The young man had a contract in his hand. It had been given to him as a reward for clearing the dungeon.

He had already learnt what summons were, but he hadn’t expected them to appear on his profile.

To be honest... he hadn’t even thought they’d have a profile.

Although his body was still aching quite badly, the young man knew it was time to get up.

He stood up.

He was covered in blood.

Within a short time, he’d mopped up the blood on the floor and then rushed into the shower to clean himself up as best he could.

Afterwards, he’d looked into this ’profile’ business, the concept of possessing two types of energy, and what skills were all about.

He hadn’t found a single thing about the profile.

He’d scoured the forum from top to bottom, right back to the very first post, but hadn’t reached any conclusions.

As for the energy, he’d learnt that those possessing two or more energies were generally High Demon Lords or Sacred Beings from the Sacred Realm.

Naturally, their spirits and souls were powerful.

It was only natural for them to possess these.

Finally, he’d looked into what skills actually were.

Just as with the profile, he’d found nothing.

Although two out of three searches had come to nothing, there was nothing he could do about it.

To put it plainly, Dean had already accessed a great deal of information and managed to make progress through research as best he could.

Still, everything had its time.

He’d waited a full eleven years for the system to unlock, and spent a full three days carrying out his first task.

He was certain he could spend a little more time before these things came to light.

Exactly four days would pass.

During this time, Dean simply ordered takeaway and continued his research.

Information on Aether was limited. It seemed humanity had only just begun to venture into Aether.

Information on the Nether, on the other hand, was quite extensive.

Dean had learnt about many Demon Lords and had even managed to gather a great deal of information on the Nether’s boundless expanse.

The Nether... was immense.

Dean had clearly read that it was tens of thousands of times larger than the Earth Realm, where humanity resided.

Well, of course, that was to be expected.

After all, the Nether was the very realm where the dead went.

Although it was extremely rare, someone might ascend to heaven- that is, to the Aether- but the vast majority of humanity were sent only to the Nether.

After these four days, the young man had spent three days resting, and a full week had passed since he had emerged from the dungeon.

This, in turn, would trigger the emergence of the next dungeon.
