Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Kill the Chicken! Take the Base

The Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps’s base immediately grew lively as news spread that Gray Wolf, the corps leader, had returned with his men.

The gate to Zhuangyuan District was quickly opened, and Lu Feng and the others were let in.

Although the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps hadn’t developed the district in order to remain inconspicuous, the district’s gate was still controlled by the base, and the area was full of hidden guards and surveillance.

So, people in the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps base quickly realized something was wrong.

In the base’s surveillance room, a few members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps immediately spotted Lu Feng’s group on the hover truck.

Because none of them were wearing electronic shackles.

If they were captives, they should have been put in electronic shackles long ago.

’If they’re not captives, why are they being brought to the base?’

They wouldn’t have been surprised if the corps leader had brought them back personally, but the crucial thing was that the corps leader wasn’t there, and neither had the other members of their Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps returned.

Therefore, when the hover trucks reached the base entrance, the gate didn’t open.

On the hover truck Lu Feng was riding in, the driver immediately used the vehicle’s communicator and said, "Open the gate, quickly!"

But a response immediately came over the communicator: "Report your situation and please exit the vehicle to be questioned. Until the corps leader returns, you will be temporarily detained."

Hearing this, the driver subconsciously glanced at Lu Feng.

Lu Feng frowned slightly. ’Looks like the people of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps are quite vigilant.’

A moment later, the gate to the base opened, and a squad of armed guards poured out, surrounding Lu Feng and the others.

A man with a crew cut at the head of the group stepped forward coldly and barked, "Someone tell me what the hell is going on!"

Seeing this, Lu Feng, right in front of all the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps members, took out a holographic virtual computer and opened the control software.

This stunned the crew-cut man and the surrounding members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps.

They naturally recognized it as their corps leader Gray Wolf’s controller.

It was the device that held the power of life and death over them.

In an instant, the atmosphere changed. These men, who had originally been pointing their guns at Lu Feng and his group, subconsciously lowered their weapons slightly.

It was an uncontrollable, instinctual reaction.

Lu Feng opened the control software, looked at the red dots on the screen, and asked in confusion, "How do you tell which red dot is which person?"

These words made the driver’s body tense up, and he grew inexplicably nervous.

’This new boss clearly doesn’t know how to use the controller yet. If he makes a mistake and detonates my Pulse-Fission Chip, I’ll have died for nothing.’

"I see." Lu Feng quickly figured it out. He clicked a function in the software, and a list of names immediately popped up.

The software allowed one to edit personal information—specifically, the names associated with each Pulse-Fission Chip and electronic shackle.

Many of the names on the list were grayed out, indicating they were dead. These were all people who had gone to the bank outpost.

The names that were still lit up represented those who were still alive.

Just then, a gunshot rang out.

It was the crew-cut man. He had fired directly at Lu Feng.

It was an impulsive act, as if he were possessed. The moment he saw the controller, a single thought had consumed him: with that device, he could control the entire Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps.

Perhaps it was because Lu Feng lacked Gray Wolf’s prestige, or perhaps he was blinded by greed, but he chose to fire without even considering how the controller had ended up in Lu Feng’s hands in the first place.

The next moment, he was dumbfounded.

The bullet didn’t harm Lu Feng at all; it was stopped by an energy shield that had materialized around him.

At this, the crew-cut man’s face turned impossibly grim. He stared in disbelief at the scene, taking two uncontrollable steps backward.

The surrounding members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps also shuddered, immediately realizing this man was an ability user.

"What’s this guy’s name?" Lu Feng asked, looking at the crew-cut man.

’If I want to take over this Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps base perfectly and make everyone else fall in line, the best way, naturally, is to make an example of someone.’

’I was just wondering who to make an example of, and this crew-cut fellow served himself up on a platter. Isn’t that perfect?’

The driver heard Lu Feng’s question and immediately answered, "Boss, his name is Zhao Kui. He’s the head of the base Guard and was Gray Wolf’s most trusted man."

He had been watching the new boss’s every move, knowing that if he found someone’s name in that software and pressed a button, that person would be a goner.

"Zhao Kui," Lu Feng muttered, typing in the search bar. The moment he typed "Zhao," a list of names populated, with Zhao Kui’s at the very top.

Hearing Lu Feng mutter his name, Zhao Kui’s gun hand trembled. He was just about to cry out for mercy, but in the next instant, his head exploded. Amidst the gore, his corpse slowly crumpled to the ground.

[Congratulations! You have killed a Fallen Murderer and earned 300 EXP!]

Lu Feng received the notification as well. ’Apparently, this Zhao Kui committed quite a few evil deeds, otherwise he wouldn’t have been worth 300 EXP.’

The driver immediately shouted, "Gray Wolf has been killed, and all the men with him are dead! The new boss is taking over the base now. If you don’t want to die, you’d better cooperate!"

His words finally made the situation clear to the members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps, and they subconsciously lowered their weapons.

It made sense. If the corps leader wasn’t dead, how could the controller have fallen into the hands of this ability user?

Most importantly, the man was an ability user who couldn’t even be harmed by bullets. How could they dare to fight back?

Now that he held the power of life and death over them, submission was their only choice.

Seeing their compliance, the driver quickly shouted to them, "Follow the new boss inside to take over the base!"

With that, he started the hover truck and drove into the base.

Seeing this, the members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps exchanged glances and immediately followed them into the base.

Lu Feng, however, gave the driver a subconscious glance. This was the man whose companion had been killed, who had been captured by the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps, implanted with a Pulse-Fission Chip, and forced to become a member.

Clearly, he had performed well from the very beginning.

And to take over this Gray Wolf base, he would need someone who was very familiar with it. Therefore, this man could be useful.

Lu Feng entered the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps’s base. It was a massive, converted air-raid shelter, so large that he couldn’t see the end of it from the entrance.

Although he didn’t know the circumstances under which this air-raid shelter was built, its area was definitely several times larger than the Zhuangyuan District above ground.

The members of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps inside were in a commotion, all assuming Gray Wolf had returned with his men.

But when they saw Lu Feng get out of the vehicle holding the holographic virtual computer, everyone froze.

They were all controlled by that holographic virtual computer, so of course they knew what it was.

Gray Wolf had brandished that device often enough.

At that moment, the driver once again shouted, "The new boss is taking over the base! He has already killed Gray Wolf and all the men who went out! The controller is in his hands now!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Just then, the Guard squad that had gone out earlier also entered and fell in line behind Lu Feng.

This sight made everyone else in the base immediately lower their heads in a display of submission.

Gray Wolf was dead, the controller was in the other man’s hands, and so many of their comrades had already submitted. As long as they weren’t idiots, they knew what choice to make.
