Chapter 44: Chapter 43: Grandpa, I Was Wrong
BOOM!
The car’s owner watched He Xiaotian gradually catch up, his forehead on the verge of breaking out in a sweat.
’This guy is a fucking monster!’
’If he really catches me, there’s no telling how I’ll die.’
’I haven’t been a ghost for long. Who knows if I’ll get another chance if I die again?’
"Well, well!"
Seeing this, He Xiaotian couldn’t help but speed up.
"WAHHHH..."
The owner started crying out loud. ’Are you some kind of beast?’
’This is a car my son burned for me! It’s definitely not slow. In fact, it’s even a bit faster than a real car.’
’After all, one runs on gas, and the other runs on yin qi.’
’The two energy sources are in completely different leagues.’
But this very ghost car was being run down by a mere human.
And on his shoulder, he was carrying a wooden box that was just a bit shorter than him.
Anyone with eyes could tell it wasn’t light.
"Here you go!"
He Xiaotian, now running neck and neck with the ghost car, flung the box containing the iron hammer into the Bentley’s back seat with his left hand.
BOOM!
The paper-mâché door didn’t stand a chance.
Then again, even a metal one probably wouldn’t have held up.
With several tons of strength, how much power was behind that throw?
CLANG!
The owner was instantly screwed. It was too heavy.
He had figured out over the past few days that carrying things in the car consumed his own yin qi.
The heavier the object, the greater the consumption.
His yin qi had just plummeted, and flooring the gas to escape had already used up most of what was left.
Now, with the sudden addition of a three-hundred-plus-pound iron hammer, the owner could only watch helplessly as his car slowed down more and more.
"Run! Go on, keep running! You’ve got some nerve, daring to mess with me."
He Xiaotian said with a grin, tapping on the car window.
"Boss! I’ll call you Big Boss, isn’t that enough? I swear to the heavens, I never had any intention of harming you," the owner begged with a miserable look on his face. ’This guy is way out of my league; I have to back down.’
"Come on, open the door and let me hammer you to death. Otherwise, I’ll smash you into a pancake, car and all." Would He Xiaotian believe him? He reached in, pulled the wooden box out of the back seat, and, to the owner’s dumbfounded astonishment, took out a giant iron hammer.
"Holy shit?!"
The owner was stunned, staring at the massive hammerhead and the chillingly sharp spikes covering it.
The car door opened. He immediately got out and fell to his knees with a THUD.
He raised his right hand, holding up three fingers to swear an oath. "Boss, I’ve never harmed anyone. I’ve only been doing this for three days and have only had two customers. At most, I take a sip of their yang qi, not enough to shorten their lives."
"At worst, they might catch a cold and run a fever when they get home. They’d just need some regular supplements. I’m really an honest man. Ah, no! I mean, an honest ghost. Look at me, still driving even after I’m dead. How’s that for professional dedication?"
He Xiaotian held the iron hammer, a speechless expression on his face.
’What does your professional dedication have to do with me?’
Seeing the man before him remained unmoved, the owner gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and said, "Boss, from now on, I’m at your beck and call. Free rides, anytime."
"Now that’s not a bad offer."
He Xiaotian frowned, muttering to himself.
For someone like him, who was currently being extremely frugal and saving up to buy a villa, any money saved was a good thing.
"Tuanjie Community on Haining Road. You have twenty minutes. If you’re one second late, I’ll smash you into a pancake."
The owner’s eyes lit up, and he puffed out his chest.
"Don’t worry, I was a seasoned driver in my past life!"
Before getting back in the car, the ghost driver was on pins and needles.
He was afraid He Xiaotian would continue to evaporate his meager remaining yin qi like before.
But it turned out his worries were needless.
And so, a paper-mâché Bentley began to tear through the streets.
Twenty minutes. There was no time to delay.
Just thinking about that spike-covered iron hammer made his asshole pucker instinctively.
The culprit behind the sudden drop in the owner’s yin qi was, without a doubt, Inner Strength.
However, He Xiaotian was keeping it under tight control at the moment, not letting it vent.
In front of Tuanjie Community on Haining Road, seven or eight luxury cars were parked.
A group of young people in their twenties had been waiting for nearly half an hour, but their faces showed no signs of impatience.
"Sister Nan, you think that fearless newbie you mentioned might’ve changed his mind?" one of them, a young man with dyed-yellow hair, asked a woman cautiously. He seemed afraid he’d get thrashed for saying the wrong thing.
"We’ll wait another ten minutes. If he’s still not here, we’ll just consider this a joyride."
"Okay."
The group of grown men nodded obediently. None of them dared to even fart.
VROOM!!
Another five minutes passed. Just as they were thinking the guy with the punchable nickname wasn’t going to show, a Bentley sped past Tuanjie Community.
"Wait, are my eyes playing tricks on me? That car just now... it looked like it was made of paper-mâché," one of the young men said, blinking as he asked the others.
GULP!
The whole group swallowed hard in unison. It wasn’t that they were ignorant of the secrets surrounding special cases.
But hearing is one thing, and seeing is another.
That was precisely why the ten-million-dollar bet existed in the first place.
The result? Three people in a row had all gone missing.
If just one person had chickened out first, the whole thing would have been over.
But young people are all obsessed with saving face.
Who wanted to be the first to back down and let everyone else mock them relentlessly forever?
So, one by one, they all steeled themselves and carried on.
With three people missing in a row, any normal person would have given up on the ten-million-dollar reward—money you could earn but wouldn’t live to spend.
It would have been fine to just let things stay at a stalemate.
But then some reckless hothead suddenly popped up today, so they had no choice but to come.
You can lose anything but face!
’Besides, it’s not like I’m the only one toughing it out.’
"You must be seeing things. What paper-mâché?" The others shook their heads repeatedly. Never mind whether they had seen it clearly or not; even if it really was a paper-mâché Bentley, they had to pretend they didn’t see it and lie through their teeth.
But then, something unexpected happened, perhaps because of what they’d just said.
That paper-mâché car actually turned around and drove back.
Everyone’s eyes went wide. A few of them even had their legs start to tremble.
’Oh my god!’
’We’ve walked too many dark roads and finally met a real ghost!’
Just as they were about to jump in their cars and flee for their lives, the passenger door of the paper car opened. A tall, incredibly sturdy man wearing a hoodie and a mask stepped out.
The gilded X on his chest was unforgettable.
He walked to the back seat, pulled out a box that was a little shorter than him, and hoisted it onto his shoulder.
Then he waved at the paper car, and its horn honked twice.
The Bentley that had terrified them all vanished into the night.
"Who’s the real man? I’m your grandpa."
If He Xiaotian had arrived in a taxi, those words would definitely have earned him eye-rolls and curses from these young people.
But after such a badass entrance, no one had any objection to what he said.
’Forget "grandpa." Even if you said you were our ancestor, we wouldn’t dare to argue!!’
