Chapter 31: Chapter 30: [My Name is Miracle, I Am Here!]

"Excuse me, sorry to interrupt. Can our officers really not get involved in these kinds of special cases?" Director Huang interjected. He was a middle-aged man who typically steeped goji berries in his thermos, but Zhao Lei’s passionate speech had fired him up.

The three shook their heads in unison.

If they could, who would pass up the help of over a hundred armed police officers?

Ordinary people could never fight these evils; their only option was to run for their lives.

Of course, the more likely outcome was death.

"Sigh! We’re just too short-staffed. Otherwise, how could reinforcements be so slow? The new students at the academy are too weak. Sending them here would be no different from sending them to their deaths," the wealthy young man known as Brother Peng said with a sigh.

"Don’t worry. Once we’re inside the factory, I’ll immediately burn my internal energy. I can hold off the fifty-odd kappa for a while. Zhou Yun, you’ll be in charge of control; there happens to be a river nearby," Zhao Lei said, patting his chest.

As his voice fell, the three of them gradually vanished into the vast night.

Director Huang and the other police officers watched them go with solemn respect.

This was Z County, their territory.

Yet now, they had to ask others to risk their lives.

To be honest, a heavy feeling settled in some of their chests.

They wanted to risk their own lives but didn’t even have the chance.

He Xiaotian remained squatting, his eyes narrowed to slits.

Although he was young, he hadn’t been fired up by Zhao Lei’s passionate speech.

It wasn’t that he was cold-blooded, but that he knew his own situation best.

True, he hadn’t experienced the harsh realities of the world, but He Xiaotian was no reckless fool.

You only get one life.

Once it was gone, you really had to say goodbye to the world.

He was hesitating. Should he just watch from the sidelines as others risked their lives for his hometown?

Or should he follow them, analyze the pros and cons, and then decide whether to act?

’That Brother Peng with the earring sounds incredibly strong. He boasted that he could handle a Black Evil, as well as no more than twenty white evils. I don’t know what these "evils" are, but they only need to hold off about fifty kappa to rescue the victims.’

’And to me, kappa are no different from 200 mobile Experience Points each. Wait, this is a deal I can’t lose money on! Amazing, I must have inherited my dad’s business genes.’

He Xiaotian made up his mind. If everything went smoothly, he would step in and hammer the kappa.

Fifty of them would add up to 10,000 Experience Points!

Enough for his *Fire-refined Golden Body* to level up again.

This would give him greater strength to protect his family and himself in this world that had been turned upside down.

Five hundred meters from the abandoned factory, more than thirty police cars had it completely surrounded.

Every officer looked grave, gripping their guns with both hands and aiming meticulously at the factory, ready for anything.

He Xiaotian blinked, only then realizing that Z County’s police officers were so well-trained.

He stood up, hoisted a massive iron hammer weighing over three hundred pounds with both hands, and walked out.

"Who’s there?!"

Hearing the noise, a group of police officers immediately swung their guns around and aimed them in He Xiaotian’s direction.

In truth, he had no other choice.

First of all, the moonlight was bright tonight. Even at three in the morning, the darkest part of the night, an ordinary person’s vision was still relatively clear.

Secondly, the police had the abandoned factory completely sealed off. As fast as He Xiaotian was, he would still have been spotted under the watch of over a hundred pairs of eyes.

When that happened, he might have ended up getting shot.

He had no desire to test whether bullets were tougher or if his *Fire-refined Golden Body* was superior.

Of course, the reason He Xiaotian dared to walk out so brazenly was because of what Zhao Lei had said.

The case at the Zhongcheng Slaughterhouse was the work of the mysterious X, not me.

This confirmed that he was already on the nation’s radar.

He Xiaotian refused to believe that Huang, a director, would be ignorant of what had really happened there.

Besides, who ever heard of a police officer opening fire at the slightest disagreement?

National regulations clearly stated that firearms could only be used as a last resort. Before deciding to shoot at a person, a warning shot was mandatory—that was an unshakeable prerequisite.

If they made any sudden moves, all he had to do was turn and run.

The effective range of a police handgun wasn’t all that great.

Shrouded by night, even with the moonlight, their accuracy would be ridiculously low.

Otherwise, wild horses couldn’t have dragged He Xiaotian out into the open.

"X?!"

Sure enough, Director Huang cried out in surprise upon seeing the gilded ’X’ icon on his chest again.

He himself had been inside the slaughterhouse; the workshop was a complete wreck.

It looked exactly as if two rhinos in heat had been brawling, with cracks and rubble everywhere.

The other officers stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with disbelief.

’Carrying a hammer the size of a grown man in one hand... That thing has to weigh over three hundred pounds, right?’

Looking at the sharp spikes on the hammer’s head, everyone gulped.

’One swing of that hammer would turn a person, bones and all, into a pile of meat paste.’

"I heard Zhao Lei ran into some trouble, so I came to take a look," He Xiaotian said, his voice slightly hoarse.

"That’s wonderful! You’re Z County’s hero!"

"..."

Director Huang’s words left He Xiaotian speechless.

To be fair, he really didn’t deserve to be called a hero.

It wasn’t that he was being overly modest.

If he had stepped forward immediately after Zhao Lei’s fiery speech, he definitely would have deserved the title.

But he had only come out after weighing the pros and cons and assessing the danger.

He was truly ashamed.

"Make way, make way," Director Huang barked, ordering his officers to clear a path.

"Thanks."

The moment he spoke, He Xiaotian leaped powerfully, soaring five or six meters into the air, yet landing as silently as a feather.

He sped toward the abandoned factory under the moonlight.

’Holy cow!’

’So this is what that handsome young man meant by a special case that ordinary people absolutely can’t get involved in?’

’Those two massive iron hammers... together they must weigh at least six or seven hundred pounds.’

’Jumping five or six meters high while carrying them like they’re plastic models... we can accept that.’

’But you land without making a single sound?’

’Are you even human?!’

’No wonder the people who can participate in these things are truly anything but ordinary.’

He Xiaotian slipped into the abandoned factory and immediately hid himself behind a ruined wall.

He cautiously poked his head out to observe the situation inside.

In the center stood a stone statue, its form that of a lion sitting on a throne?

No, its head was human.

’A sphinx?’

’What does this represent?’

The area around the statue was piled with unconscious people.

A quick scan revealed over two hundred people, close to three hundred in total.

Almost the total number of people who had recently gone missing in Z County.

In addition, about fifty kappa and a dozen or so white, ghostly figures floating in the air were in a standoff with Zhao Lei’s group of three.

’So the white, ghostly figures are the "evils" they were talking about?’

"What is your ultimate goal?" asked Brother Peng, the one with the diamond-chip earring. He refused to believe there wasn’t someone controlling things from behind the scenes. Kappa and the white evils had intelligence no different from wild beasts; they only knew how to act on instinct.

Entering the county to abduct people was not something driven by animal instinct.
