Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Buying a Tricycle to Go Fishing at the Bridge Pier
Gu Nan then took the fish over to be weighed. The large croaker weighed 13.2 jin. At eighty-one yuan per jin, the total came to 1,056 yuan. He rounded it down and took 1,050.
After getting the fish, Wang Junhe left happily. Before he went, he told Gu Nan to be sure to let him know first if he got any more good catches in the future.
Gu Nan quickly agreed. ’Of course, I have to satisfy such a generous customer!’
Now his evening’s earnings were finally looking a little better. Satisfied, he pushed his electric scooter into the shop to charge.
He locked up and then walked to a nearby street.
There were several shops on the street that sold electric scooters and electric tricycles.
He would have a lot of time to fish during the day from now on. With a tricycle, he could carry more boxes. He wouldn’t have to worry about running out of space if he caught a lot of fish, and he wouldn’t have to return early like before.
It would also be more convenient for fishing at the bridge piers, since they were a bit far away.
After shopping around at three different stores, Gu Nan spent 5,500 yuan on a relatively large electric tricycle with a cargo bed two meters long and 1.2 meters wide. It had a range of up to ninety kilometers.
Since he was already buying one, he figured another thousand yuan or so wouldn’t make a difference. He decided to get the best one available.
This way, he could stack and fit eight 50x60 cm foam boxes, as well as two water tanks for keeping fish alive. Anyway, the space was huge, so he could arrange it however he liked.
It was just that his savings, which were about to break ten thousand yuan, were now more than halved in an instant.
Yangjiang Port was a fishing port, so electric tricycles were allowed on the roads. As long as he didn’t drive into Bazhou City, he wouldn’t get in trouble.
Of course, that was on the condition that he followed traffic rules, like wearing a helmet.
After getting the tricycle, Gu Nan checked the battery level when he started it up. New vehicles usually don’t come with a full charge. It was fine, though. The battery was two-thirds full, which was more than enough to get to the bridge.
Next, he went to buy two blue plastic boxes with lids and also picked up the apron and gloves for Yi Chen.
The boxes were 80x50x40 cm. Two would be plenty. These plastic boxes were much cheaper than proper fish containers. He already had an aerator, so that saved him some money.
He didn’t need to buy foam boxes. He had saved the ones from his previous stock purchases, so he just had to go back and get them.
Back at the shop, Gu Nan picked out two 50x60 cm foam boxes and a long 100x50 cm box specifically for large fish.
The chances of catching a big fish weren’t high, but a man has to have a dream!
He had caught a large croaker just last night, so the dream wasn’t entirely impossible.
He shoveled crushed ice into the foam boxes, packed his tackle box and fishing rods, and set off with a bucket for fetching water.
He hadn’t used up all the Antarctic krill last night, so there was no need to buy more.
He drove all the way to the bridge, arriving a little after 7:10 PM. As expected, the bald man was there.
After Gu Nan transferred the money, the bald man became even more enthusiastic, even offering to help move everything from the tricycle onto his small wooden boat.
Once everything was loaded, Gu Nan boarded the boat. The bald man then used a bamboo pole to push against the mudflat where the bow was resting, shoving the small wooden boat into the water.
After they were a few meters from the shore, he put away the bamboo pole, went to the stern, and started the motor to set off.
"Buddy, which pier do you want to go to?"
"Oh, I can choose? Just pick any empty spot. But not the one in the middle."
The two piers in the middle had the widest gap between them. This was the shipping lane, allowing large vessels to pass through. Frequent boat traffic would really interfere with fishing.
Following the principle of saving fuel by staying close, the boatman took him to one of the piers relatively nearer to the shore.
From a distance, the platform looked small, but as you got closer, you realized it was actually huge. It could hold more than just one angler per pier; seven or eight would fit just fine.
It’s just that not many anglers were willing to spend fifty yuan to be a sucker fishing at the piers.
The wealthy ones would just get their own boats and go out to sea, while those without money usually couldn’t bear to spend it.
Gu Nan was willing to spend the money mainly because he liked the environment here.
No matter if the sun was in the east or the west, there was always a shady spot by the pier to block the sun.
Also, the temperature was lower, and the sea breeze was incredibly refreshing—much more comfortable than staying in an air-conditioned room. It was indeed a great place for fishing.
Fifty yuan was actually quite expensive. But in the future, Gu Nan could come in the morning and fish straight through until 5:00 PM before heading back.
He wouldn’t need to come at night. Since there was no sun, any spot would do.
This was just for the near future. Once he earned enough money, he could get a small boat and come here by himself.
A boat was a necessity. He had only unlocked the Fengqi Coast map for now. The next map might require him to go out to sea to activate a different location. He couldn’t do that without a boat.
The small wooden boat wasn’t fast, but since the distance was only a few hundred meters, they quickly arrived at a pier.
Gu Nan moved all his things onto it and then began to prepare for fishing.
After dropping him off, the boatman immediately headed back to wait for the next sucker. Business was good on the weekend; he had already made 750 yuan during the day.
After tying his line, Gu Nan moved to the inner side of the pier. ’There should be more fish under the bridge.’
Then he discovered something useful: there were thick steel rebars sticking out from the edge of the platform.
Originally, Gu Nan would have had to fill his containers with water from the bucket and turn on the aerator to keep the fish alive. Now, that wasn’t necessary. He could just tie his fish basket directly to a rebar and lower it into the water.
With all his preparations done, he scooped up some Antarctic krill and tossed it into the water in front of him. Then he picked up his rod and started fishing, using his guaranteed catch chance first.
While waiting for a fish to bite, Gu Nan quickly opened the game to check today’s daily quests.
[Daily Quest 1: Catch ten fish weighing over three jin each (not limited to the Fengqi Coast). Reward: 10 EXP, 200 Gold Coins.]
[Daily Quest 2: Catch five ornamental fish of any kind. Reward: 10 EXP, 300 Gold Coins.]
[Daily Quest 3: Catch five 3-star fish. Reward: 15 EXP, 300 Gold Coins.]
[Daily Quest 4: Unlock a new fish in the Fish-o-pedia. Reward: 15 EXP, 300 Gold Coins.]
’The quest difficulty seems to be increasing.’ Catching five 3-star fish and unlocking a new fish in the Fish-o-pedia didn’t seem so easy to complete; they were full of randomness.
’Ten fish over three jin each...’ Gu Nan thought back to yesterday’s haul. ’I don’t think I even met that requirement, did I?’
As for the Gold Coin and EXP rewards, they were exactly the same as yesterday. It seemed the rewards had temporarily hit a cap.
’Looks like I’ll probably need to buy the green Fengqi Fishing Rod set to see any further improvement.’
Just as he finished reading and closed the game, he felt a tug on his fishing rod.
Gu Nan deftly lifted the rod to set the hook in one fluid motion.
However, the feather-light weight on the line gave him a strange feeling. ’Don’t tell me it’s an ornamental fish right off the bat?’
He reeled it in and saw that it was indeed an ornamental fish. And it was a new variety of Stab-tailed Fish called a "Seven-colored Tang," with the exact same price as a "Five-colored Tang."
Its color was primarily brown instead of black. ’It’s six of one, half a dozen of the other compared to the Five-colored Tang,’ he thought. No wonder the price was similar.
He put it in the fish basket and cast his line a second time.
A dozen or so seconds later, he got another bite. But when he reeled it in, it felt just as light. He pulled it up and was surprised to see it was a Pink and Blue Tang.
Gu Nan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Was his luck today good or bad? He had already caught two 3-star fish so easily, and both were ornamental. He had already completed two-fifths of two different quests at once.
He put the fish in the basket and checked his Fish-o-pedia.
"Huh? They’re all unlocked?"
