Chapter 469: Chapter 173: Annihilating Feige Building (3)

As for the previous client...

They weren’t some legitimate power, anyway. I’ll just find an excuse to brush them off later.

With this in mind, Ma San prepared to agree.

But just then, a question suddenly occurred to him.

"Why didn’t you bring the token?" Ma San asked.

Shen Bai frowned. "This trip was rather urgent, so I didn’t bring a token."

A token?

He didn’t know what the token was, so he just tried to bluff his way through.

A sharp glint flashed in Ma San’s eyes. "I see. In that case..."

Before he could finish, he saw Shen Bai suddenly smile.

"There’s no token at all, is there?" Shen Bai said.

A flicker of panic showed on Ma San’s face, but it vanished quickly. "What nonsense are you spouting, client? How could there not be a token?"

Shen Bai drew the Cold Moon from his waist and shook his head. "As expected of the Feige Building. Truly cautious. You used something that doesn’t exist to sound me out. Never mind..."

Just now, the more Shen Bai thought about it, the more something felt wrong.

The other party mentioned a token, but he didn’t know what it was.

After his casual bluff, the other party didn’t ask again.

Then there could only be one answer—the man was testing him.

If there was no token, all he had to do was say so.

But his casual bluff showed that he knew nothing about the Feige Building’s affairs, thus exposing himself.

Fortunately... it wasn’t a big deal.

’Since I’ve found my destination, and this man seems to be a high-ranking member of the Feige Building, I’ll just capture him.’

Seeing Shen Bai draw his Longsword, Ma San bellowed, "Run!"

Without another word, the Shopkeeper had already turned and fled.

But before he could take more than a few steps, a streak of Blood Red Sword Qi pierced through him.

Ma San saw the Shopkeeper fall dead and prepared to escape through the window.

But a moment later, he felt a sharp pain in his back.

The Blood Red Sword Qi had pierced through his back, pinning him firmly to the ground.

"Blood Red Sword Qi!"

Ma San said in horror, "You’re Prefecture Chief Shen Bai!"

Shen Bai slowly approached. "It seems the Feige Building’s intelligence is quite good. I’ll give you a choice now. Tell me the Feige Building’s location, and I’ll spare your life."

Ma San sneered. "It’s just my life, one way or another. When you live on a knife’s edge, you already know how it ends. You’ll never find out where the Feige Building is."

As he spoke, he wore an expression of someone ready to die, as if he would never utter a single word.

Shen Bai chuckled. "You might be mistaken."

Ma San faltered for a moment. "Mistaken about what?"

Shen Bai said flatly, "Death is merely the mildest of outcomes. There are many things more unbearable than death. Just now, you seemed to be trying to circulate your Qi to commit suicide. You’ve already tried five times. Isn’t it clear to you that it’s useless?"

Ma San gritted his teeth. "For the great Lord Shen to resort to poison... how laughable."

Shen Bai said coolly, "In a moment, you’ll be begging me to kill you."

With a surge of Qi, Shen Bai activated the poison in Ma San’s body.

The next moment, Ma San’s entire body felt like it was being scorched by fire. He began to struggle frantically on the ground, letting out agonized wails.

"That’s just one of the poisons."

Shen Bai said slowly, "I will keep you conscious at all times. Before you talk, you have at least ten thousand more poisons to experience."

A trace of fear appeared in Ma San’s eyes.

He seemed to understand what Shen Bai had meant.

Death... was perhaps truly the mildest outcome.

...

「Inside an Unnamed Cave.」

The Leader rubbed the wine jar in his hands, looking down at the several female corpses below. He spat. "They don’t last at all. I’ll have to go abduct some more beauties another day."

Below, a few Feige Building members picked up the corpses and, as per the old rules, took them outside to feed the dogs.

"Ma San went to the stronghold. Why isn’t he back yet?" the Leader asked.

A Feige Building member quickly replied, "I don’t know. Master Ma San should be on his way."

The Leader grunted in acknowledgment and then took another sip of wine.

He had just swallowed the wine when the sound of footsteps reached him.

"Reporting!"

A Feige Building member hurried over. "Master Ma San has returned! He says he has something important to discuss with you."

The Leader set down his wine jar. "Let him in."

Before long, Ma San was led into the cave by several members.

The Leader asked, "Ma San, you said you had something important. What is it?"

Ma San quickly said, "It’s like this. Someone is willing to pay triple the price to take Fan Kai."

When these words were spoken, the Leader froze on the spot.

After a few breaths, the Leader returned to normal.

"Is it reliable?" the Leader asked.

Ma San replied, "Very reliable. I’ve already investigated. It seems they’re also after the mine."

"This is a job we can take."

The Leader asked, "When will they come to pick him up?"

The Ma San before him was his top general and the Feige Building’s strategist.

More than half of the Feige Building’s current power was thanks to Ma San’s contributions.

Now that Ma San said they could do it, the Leader naturally believed him.

Ma San nodded. "Now."

The Leader asked in confusion, "Now? I don’t see you with anyone."

Ma San raised his hand, swiped it through the air to open a rift, and pulled out a Longsword that glinted with a cold light, along with the corpse of a second Ma San.

"I said now, and I meant now."

Seeing this, the Leader’s eyes went wide. "You’re not Ma San! Who are you!"

All around, a crowd of Feige Building agents came forward, surrounding "Ma San."

"Ma San" swiped a hand across his face, and a mask fell away. "Now, do you recognize me?"

"Shen Bai!"

The Leader shot to his feet. "I never thought you’d find the Feige Building! Men, take him down! Otherwise, we all die today!"

In that instant, everything became clear.
