Chapter 387: Chapter 321: Underground City: Here I Come
In the small courtyard stood a wintersweet tree, while the other flowerpots were covered up.
It was clear that someone came by often to tidy up and take care of the place.
The house itself had two bedrooms and two living areas. It wasn’t very large, but the interior design was exquisite, and it was fully stocked with all sorts of daily necessities.
"If you’re not satisfied, I can make other arrangements..."
"No need. This is very nice." Xu Zilan didn’t say much more, nor did she try to refuse. She walked straight inside and began to arrange her things.
"Auntie, I’ll help you!" Hua Quanquan naturally followed right after her.
Guan San, however, stood motionless at the door. His gaze remained fixed on Xu Zilan’s back, only retracting slowly after she had entered the bedroom.
"If Elder Guan has nothing else..." Gao Neng began, looking at Guan San. A sliver of doubt crept into his mind. ’After all, from what I remember, Guan San was never like this.’
"I’m fine. However, Chairman Fang is waiting for you in his office. He said that if you have time after you’re finished here, you should go see him," Guan San said, snapping back to his senses.
"Alright. Should I go now?" Gao Neng nodded.
"Yes, you can." Guan San thought for a moment, then looked at Hua Quanquan, who was helping out. "Hua Quanquan, take Mr. Gao to the chairman’s office. I’ll take care of things here."
"Oh, okay!" Hua Quanquan put a piece of clothing in the wardrobe and quickly ran out. Xu Zilan hadn’t brought many things with her.
Besides, there was one package that Xu Zilan wouldn’t let her touch.
So, there really wasn’t much she could do to help by staying there.
"I’ll be going then." Gao Neng glanced at Guan San. He had wanted to say he didn’t need Hua Quanquan to show him the way, but since Guan San had already called her out, he didn’t refuse.
With Hua Quanquan leading the way, Gao Neng soon left the residential area and headed toward Fang Yuan’s office.
Meanwhile, back in a room in the small courtyard, Xu Zilan was carefully placing a package into a box at the bottom of the wardrobe. Only after she had done all this did she let out a slight sigh of relief.
But when she turned around, she found Guan San already standing in the middle of the living room.
Xu Zilan glanced toward the door.
BANG!
As if stirred by a gust of wind, the door slammed shut.
Guan San’s body trembled slightly. He glanced at the closed door, then dropped directly to his knees.
THUD!
He was kneeling on the floor.
And in Xu Zilan’s eyes, all of this was met with her usual calm. She showed no surprise, nor did she have any intention of stopping Guan San.
Xu Zilan simply walked out slowly and sat down on the living room sofa.
Watching this, Guan San’s vision blurred once again. He collapsed forward, prostrating himself on the floor, tears streaming down his face uncontrollably.
"I should have realized sooner! I deserve to die, I really do! He came from the Forgotten Land... and his surname is Gao. Why didn’t I think of it?!" Guan San’s hands splayed open, his fingers clawing at the floor, tearing several gashes into the carpet.
Xu Zilan said nothing, just watching him quietly.
"After that great battle eighteen years ago, I spent two whole years searching for you in the Forgotten Land, but I just couldn’t find you. I really couldn’t! I turned the entire Forgotten Land upside down. In the end... in the end, I guessed... that you might have gone down into the Underground City again. So... so I..."
"So, you sought out the Celestial King Group, hoping to use them to get access to the Underground City, is that right?" Xu Zilan said at last, looking at Guan San kneeling on the floor.
"Yes. I obtained the resources to enter the Underground City. For the past ten-plus years, I’ve gone in once every six months, but I never found you or..."
"I understand," Xu Zilan said, waving her hand dismissively.
"Aren’t you going to tell Gao Neng about this? He’s about to enter the Underground City as well, and he has a higher access level than I do. As a genius in the top 300 of the Dragon List and with an S-rank evaluation, the Alliance will definitely allow him to enter those specific zones. If he could..."
"His power is still insufficient. Knowing some things too early will do him no good. As for those zones, he might not be able to go deep into them right now!" Xu Zilan said again.
"With Gao Neng’s current strength alone, it would be impossible, of course. But Tangtang once mentioned that Gao Neng’s master is Li Tiannan!" Guan San lifted his head.
"Li Tiannan from the Military Department?" Xu Zilan tilted her head back slightly, looking thoughtful.
"Yes. Although Li Tiannan is no longer the commander-in-chief of the Military Department, he is still its god of war. If I’m not mistaken, once Gao Neng and the others enter the Underground City this time, the twenty Strongest will definitely make a move. Li Tiannan will most likely..."
"You could never guess what he will do," Xu Zilan interrupted Guan San. Then, she glanced at the coffee table in front of her. "Get up and make me a cup of tea."
"Yes... Yes! Chairman Fang specifically left a brick of high-quality Pu’er tea. I’ll brew it for you right now!" Guan San immediately scrambled up from the floor. He then quickly added, "I heard a piece of news. It seems the Military Department is planning to build a military academy in the Forgotten Land. I heard Li Tiannan himself proposed it. Gao Neng also mentioned it to me a while ago. I’m guessing this was Gao Neng’s request!"
"Mm, Little Neng mentioned it to me," Xu Zilan nodded.
"If it’s inconvenient for you, I can do it. Besides, when Chairman Fang heard about this, he was extremely supportive!" Guan San said again.
"Alright," Xu Zilan said nothing more.
...
「Celestial King Group, Chairman’s Office.」
Hua Quanquan was not qualified to enter, so she could only wait quietly outside the door. Inside the office were only three people: Fang Yuan, Gao Neng, and Uncle Bai.
The first thing Fang Yuan discussed with Gao Neng was the matter of establishing a military academy in the Forgotten Land.
This came as a surprise to Gao Neng.
Fang Yuan’s reasoning was that since the Military Department was heading the project, he, as a partner of the Military Department, should naturally contribute.
Gao Neng didn’t object.
After all, having the support of the Celestial King Group, both financially and materially, was an excellent development. The construction of the military academy should proceed much more smoothly.
After they finished discussing the military academy, Fang Yuan started talking to Gao Neng about precautions for the Underground City.
From their conversation, it was clear that Fang Yuan had some knowledge of the Underground City, but it wasn’t very deep. Apparently, there were some things within that even he couldn’t get involved in.
Gao Neng was surprised once again.
’If even someone like Fang Yuan can’t get involved, then what on earth is in the Underground City?!’
’Is it just the source of human... evolution?’
Gao Neng wasn’t sure.
He had originally intended to ask about the "human-shaped nuclear weapon" project, but after some thought, for some reason, he decided against asking for the time being.
Time passed quickly.
By the time he came out of Fang Yuan’s office, it was already noon.
Gao Neng made no other plans. He intended to spend the afternoon and evening with Xu Zilan, just talking with her.
After all, he was to officially enter the Underground City tomorrow.
According to Fang Yuan and the others, the Underground City was dangerous, but it was also filled with opportunities.
Of course, that was what Fang Yuan and the others said. In his own mind, Gao Neng had a bold idea. He remembered Li Tiannan once mentioning that the Underground City was built inside a pile of ore.
’So, based on my second attribute’s setting of being able to "see ore at a glance," will there be any surprises?’
Gao Neng tried looking down at his feet, then stared hard, but he couldn’t see anything. It wasn’t like in the Dark Night Elf Royal City, where he could see a white glow.
’How strange. Is there a problem with the setting? Or is the Underground City just buried too deep to be seen at a glance?’
