Chapter 149: Chapter 117: Why Are the People from World Pavilion Here Too?
"What a lively scene."
The Young Master of Jiangnan’s Furnace Fire Sect ordered a large table of braised meat and fine wine. He sat by the teahouse window, eagerly scanning the street for any sign of Chen Fan.
He had been sleeping in his room just moments before.
But when he heard there was a show to watch, he rushed over immediately.
He didn’t like tea or sweets; braised meat and wine were more his style—hearty and satisfying. A burly man with a full beard, he had a particularly rugged appearance.
...
"Is this really okay?"
By the teahouse window, Gongyang Yue cautiously leaned in and whispered to the Jiangbei Old Demon, "Isn’t Chen Fan our friend? Is it disrespectful for us to be here just to watch the drama?"
"Ahem."
The Jiangbei Old Demon stared at the Jiangbei Chen Family estate with eyes full of anticipation. "We’re here to back him up. I’ve been through this sort of scene myself, but it’s still exciting. As long as Chen Fan can bring himself to do it, he’ll be my one and only true confidant!"
Why had he gone soft when he passed by the Jiangbei Chen Family’s Station 37 a month ago?
It was because his own past was just like Chen Fan’s.
Ostracized by his family since childhood.
After completing his training and returning, he slaughtered his entire family.
He spared no one, young or old.
And now, Chen Fan had also returned after completing his training. If he could bring himself to do the same, it would mean the Old Demon had found someone whose thoughts resonated with his own—that Chen Fan was the same kind of person he was.
"Oh..."
Gongyang Yue glanced at the Jiangbei Old Demon, a little bewildered. She had never seen such an expression on his face before. Though she didn’t know the specifics, she found herself feeling a little happy and expectant as well.
If the Jiangbei Old Demon was looking forward to it, then so was she.
...
"Why are people from the World Pavilion here too?"
Inside the teahouse, Qi Feng glanced at the table of white-robed people in the corner and whispered, "I didn’t see them when we went to the Mortal Realm to offer congratulations the other day, did I?"
His words carried a hint of apprehension.
The World Pavilion.
A faction from Jiangnan with deep roots. The faction boasted twelve Architects, the highest of whom was a Level 9 Architect. Everyone suspected the World Pavilion might have the ability to mass-produce Architects.
Every faction had different strengths.
The World Pavilion’s advantage was its incredibly fortified headquarters; almost no faction could breach it.
"..."
Elder Xu glanced over and said calmly, "Rumor has it that Chen Fan is an extremely high-level Architect, yet before the rainy season, he was just an Ordinary Cultivator. Perhaps they’ve caught wind of something and sent people to investigate."
"Could there really be a method to turn an Ordinary Cultivator into an Architect?" Qi Feng frowned, hesitating.
"Hard to say."
"But the Eternal Night Continent is so vast. We’re tucked away in a small corner, unable to see the whole picture. It wouldn’t be surprising if such a method existed. Ever since I returned from Nameless Mountain, I can’t shake the feeling that the Celestial Pit and the gorge there look like they were smashed into existence by some powerful expert with a hammer."
"That’s absolutely impossible."
Qi Feng shook his head firmly. "What Level would a Cultivator have to be to have that kind of power? Level 99?"
"Unlikely. Their lifespan wouldn’t be long enough."
"What if they had a top-tier Training Room, an endless supply of Ghost Stones, and a way to extend their lifespan?"
"Still not enough."
Qi Feng gave Elder Xu a strange look. "Elder Xu, why do you keep bringing up methods to extend one’s lifespan lately? Such a thing doesn’t exist. Besides, even if all three of your conditions were met, the Eternal Night has only been upon us for 378 years. Even if someone started their Cultivation the moment it began, it would be impossible for them to reach Level 99 by now, right?"
"..."
Elder Xu fell silent and simply gazed out the window.
He was getting old.
He didn’t want to die.
That was why he had been paying so much attention to the Mortal Realm recently. If any faction in all of Jiangnan and Jiangbei possessed a way to extend life, it had to be them. The Mortal Realm’s overall ranking wasn’t particularly high, but its rise had been extraordinarily fast. No faction had ever risen so quickly.
He wanted to live a little longer. At the very least, he wanted to see why the Eternal Night had descended in the first place.
Just then—
"Well, well."
A surprised voice suddenly rang out in the teahouse.
"Look at everyone, all gathered here. What important matters are you all discussing?"
Everyone subconsciously turned to look.
A young man in a blue robe was standing at the top of the stairs to the second floor. He was leaning on a Jade Staff as he looked at them, a limping man standing behind him. It was the Lord of the Mortal Realm!
"..."
"..."
The groups of people who had been whispering among themselves all froze. They scrambled to their feet, bowing respectfully with clasped fists. "Greetings, Domain Lord Chen!"
In terms of status and position,
Domain Lord Chen was the most senior person present.
They were all paragons or heirs of the younger generation from their respective factions, but Chen Fan was the Lord of the Mortal Realm. They were not of the same generation or standing.
But their expressions were stiff, and they didn’t know how to answer him.
Could they really admit they were here for the show?
To watch the spectacle surrounding Chen Fan?
...
"Sit, sit, everyone."
Chen Fan chuckled, leaning on his staff. He scanned the room, his gaze finally landing on the group in white robes in the corner. "You all look unfamiliar. Which faction are you from?"
There were five people in the group.
Three men and two women.
All of them were young, looking as if they had only recently shed their youthful immaturity.
"Greetings, Domain Lord Chen."
A young man stepped forward, clasped his fists, and spoke in a pompous, self-important tone. "We are from Jiangnan’s World Pavilion. My name is Tian Qi. I am a Direct Disciple of the World Pavilion and the leader of this expedition."
"Tian Qi."
Chen Fan nodded, repeating the name to himself. ’What a fucking arrogant name.’
"When did you all arrive in Jiangbei?"
"We arrived in Jiangbei after the rainy season ended."
"Oh? I don’t believe I saw you in the Mortal Realm the other day."
