Chapter 10: Chapter 10: A Legacy From the Lady of the House?
And this glowing white stone in his hand was the very thing that had fallen out of the little girl’s mouth.
It was an Exotic Treasure!
He had killed 37 Monkey-headed Ghosts last night just to get one Exotic Treasure. Today, he killed a mother and daughter and got another.
The mother and daughter had a much higher drop rate.
This mother-daughter pair must have been the "Pseudo-human Ghosts" the man in the green robe had mentioned. They had no real strength of their own; their main tactic was to disguise themselves as humans and try to enter a camp as night fell. As long as you saw through their disguise, they were easy to kill.
Of course, these Pseudo-human Ghosts couldn’t hold Ghost Stones, or they would be burned.
"I understand."
Lame Monkey scratched the back of his head, blaming himself. "It’s a good thing you woke up, Young Master. Otherwise, we would have missed this opportunity. I was just worried about accidentally hurting real people."
"How could there be any accidental harm?"
Chen Fan shook his head and chuckled. "Without a Ghost Stone, no camp would take them in. Even if they were real people, after being driven away by you, they would still die in the eternal night."
"Besides, even if it was a mistake, it doesn’t matter."
"That’s their fate."
"They have to accept it."
"Alright, you got enough sleep during the day, right? We might have a big fight tonight. Come eat something. A full stomach is needed for a good night’s work."
...
The moment the sun set, a tide of darkness once again rushed in from the horizon, instantly blanketing the entire world.
The eternal night had fallen!
This was already the third night that the master and servant duo had spent in this Wilderness.
But compared to the previous two nights, they felt much safer tonight.
"Young Master."
Sitting by the Campfire, Lame Monkey took a large bite of the hardtack in his hand while stroking the thick, sturdy Arrow Tower beside him, his eyes filled with excitement. "From what I know, an Architect who can build an Arrow Tower is no longer an Apprentice Architect who can only make Ghost Fire!"
"To hire an Architect to build an Arrow Tower for your camp, you need at least 150 Ghost Stones!"
"If the Old Master knew you could already build Arrow Towers, he would definitely regret his actions all these years."
There was another sentence he left unsaid.
’Who told the Young Master the details of the Arrow Tower Blueprint?’
’Could it be...’
’The foundation left to the Young Master by the Lady of the House?’
Chen Fan smiled without replying, looking down at the stone in his hands. This was a real treasure.
-
「Exotic Treasure Name」: Building Replication Stone.
「Exotic Treasure Level」: White.
「Exotic Treasure Effect」: Can be used on any building of Level 2 or lower to replicate an identical building.
-
The most valuable thing in his camp right now was, naturally, the Level 2 Arrow Tower.
Without much thought,
he pressed the stone against the Arrow Tower beside him. An Arrow Tower Illusion, composed of countless ethereal white lights, appeared in the air once more. The stone melted into a milky-white liquid that surged into the Arrow Tower Illusion, causing it to quickly solidify and settle on the other side of the Campfire.
One on the left and one on the right, they flanked the Campfire perfectly.
The Arrow Towers could only attack creatures that entered the camp’s perimeter. Placing them too close to the edge would expose them to immediate damage from Ghost Objects and risk being destroyed. It was much safer to have them inside the camp.
He took out another Ghost Stone and embedded it into the base of the brand-new Arrow Tower.
With that, he only had 3 Ghost Stones left.
His savings were nearly depleted.
Lame Monkey, who had been fantasizing about the future, was stunned speechless after witnessing this scene. After a long while, he finally mumbled, "Young Master..."
"Hm?"
"You need to hurry up and get married and have children."
"Why?"
"Young Master, even though you’re only a Level 1 Architect now, your talent is greater than any Architect I’ve ever heard of. You’re bound to become a very powerful Architect in the future. If you start a family and let it flourish soon, you can have a great family of your own."
Chen Fan laughed at his words and shook his head without comment. Lame Monkey seemed to have some obsession with family, always wanting the Chen Family to see Chen Fan in a new light, and now he even wanted him to start a family of his own.
’A Level 1 Architect...’
’That was the Cultivation system of this world.’
’The higher an Architect’s Level, the stronger their physical constitution, the fewer resources they consumed when building, and the higher the Cultivation they possessed to construct High Grade buildings.’
’But...’
’To me, all of that is meaningless.’
’Useless.’
’As long as I have the resources and Blueprints, I can create top-tier buildings right now. The Architects of this world are like nerfed versions without panels. Only with a panel can one become a true Architect.’
’In other words...’
’This world is actually a game world, but something went wrong during its transformation. As a result, the natives of this world don’t have a Player Panel and can’t see one. But I, the only one who can see a panel, have become the true player—the only player.’
’After all, my Eternal Night Lord Panel doesn’t really have any special functions.’
’It’s just the equivalent of a Player Panel.’
’Absorbing Ghost Stones to raise my Level has only one effect for me: it makes me physically stronger. I’ll definitely do it later when I have more Ghost Stones, but for now, it’s a low priority.’
Just then—
The darkness outside the camp suddenly began to churn as if it were boiling, and sharp, clear shrieks could be heard.
"They’re here!"
Chen Fan quickly stood up and hid within the support structure at the base of an Arrow Tower. He scanned his surroundings, his eyes narrowing as he whispered, "Something big is coming. It might break into the camp. Get ready."
"If it really gets in, don’t engage it. Let the Arrow Towers handle it!"
He hadn’t set any Beast Traps tonight precisely because he was worried that the large creature that escaped last night would return. He hadn’t expected it to actually show up.
*Huuu...*
His breathing quickened slightly. The main problem was that he didn’t know the enemy’s strength, nor did he know if these two Level 2 Arrow Towers could stop it...
If they couldn’t stop it...
There would be nowhere to run!
The next moment!
"SKREE SKREE SKREE!"
A piercing, sharp cry suddenly erupted from the darkness outside the camp. Immediately after, a massive Monkey-headed Ghost, nearly two meters tall, charged out of the night and plunged straight into the camp!
Its speed was incredible!
This was the first time he had seen a Ghost Object dare to charge directly into a camp protected by Ghost Fire.
The oppressive aura from the black energy surrounding its body made one instinctively hold their breath.
Humans seemed so insignificant before such a Ghost Object.
But at the same time, the Crossbow Mechanisms atop the two Arrow Towers by the Ghost Fire swiveled in unison, aiming directly at the enormous Monkey-headed Ghost. The Ghost Stones embedded in their bases flickered with a faint, fleeting white light.
And then!
"SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!"
The sound of something slicing through the air broke the night’s silence, ringing in their ears.
Several Crossbow Arrows shot out, accurately sinking into the massive Monkey-headed Ghost’s body. The firing rate wasn’t particularly fast, nor was it slow, but the shots were remarkably precise, with a hit rate of basically over 70%.
The grievously wounded Monkey-headed Ghost forgot all about revenge. Screaming and roaring in agony, it charged out of the camp at an incredible speed and vanished into the darkness.
"It ran away?"
Chen Fan peeked his head out from behind the Arrow Tower and gazed at the darkness outside the camp, which had once again returned to calm. A trace of regret and pity flashed in his eyes.
"What a pity."
"That Monkey-headed Ghost would have definitely dropped something good if it died."
