Chapter 804: Chapter 760: Oblique Conversation
The windowless room was filled with the sound of a single breath, with a mattress directly laid on the floor, and the small cartoon quilt on top slowly rising and falling with each breath.
A man was sleeping on the mattress, and judging by the rhythm of his breathing, he was sleeping deeply.
The door suddenly opened a crack, and a slender silhouette slipped inside. The brief light illuminated the spider web behind the door, making the eight-legged little animal shuffle a few steps before everything returned to darkness.
The faint sound of footsteps echoed in the room, mostly the sound of metal being touched by the clutter on the ground.
The silhouette stood quietly in front of the mattress, seemingly wanting to see the person lying there, but the atmosphere was very eerie, like an assassin in a horror movie.
Minutes passed by, and the silhouette remained motionless, just like a wooden statue, leaving a darker patch in the darkness.
"Diana, don’t look at me with those eyes."
The person on the mattress suddenly sat up, covering his forehead, looking utterly exhausted, speaking with a tone of helplessness.
"Awake now?"
Diana removed her hood and wrapped her arms around her chest, speaking softly.
Su Ming moved his neck a bit. His request to stay here was sudden, and Harley didn’t have an extra pillow for him. He tugged at the quilt and fell back down: "No."
"Are you sleepwalking?" Diana tilted her head, looking at him disdainfully.
"Yeah." Su Ming turned over, facing away from Diana.
Diana sat down cross-legged, pulled out her Fire God Sword, and began to slowly sharpen it with a whetstone: "Then I’ll wait for you."
Szz... Szz... Szz...
It’s not just the sound of sword sharpening, but the sparks almost splattered onto Su Ming’s back. How could he sleep? Especially when Diana brought with her terrible resentment, like a resentful spirit, waking Su Ming the instant she entered the room.
He initially thought it was Harley or Ivy coming to raid him at night, but it turned out to be Diana with a frosty expression.
Su Ming wasn’t sure if Diana was unaware of what had happened before, and naturally, he wasn’t going to say anything voluntarily, but her gaze was like Heat Sight, making his skin burn. He had to speak first eventually.
"Alright, why are you here? The flood has just receded, don’t you plan to rest?" Su Ming turned back, lying down and staring at the ceiling helplessly.
"I have some questions for you."
Diana paused her actions and put her Fire God Sword away.
"...What questions?"
A glimpse of brilliance flashed in Su Ming’s lone eye, and Godslayer suddenly appeared under the cartoon quilt, changing into the shape of a frying pan.
Diana sighed and gazed deeply into Su Ming’s eye: "You know what I want to ask."
"No, I don’t know."
Su Ming gently shook his head and closed his eyes with a slight smile. He secretly moved his fingers a bit, needing to adapt his muscles after just retrieving his body.
"Someone has to speak first." Diana took off her Shield from her back, which still bore some scratches from the Inverted Man.
"At this point, who speaks first doesn’t matter." Su Ming’s gaze was melancholy and deep. If worse comes to worst, he could only use Hypnosis (physical)...
Unknown when it started, the conversation between the two had turned into a Royal Guard style, which wasn’t a good sign.
Diana didn’t notice Su Ming’s small movements, she stroked the surface of the Shield, the glow of the Divine Metal covered in darkness: "If you had a secret, would you tell someone? Or whisper it to a Tree Hole?"
Su Ming feigned dead, blankly staring at the ceiling, as if some Little Worm flew past his eyes.
"Maybe, I’d place it on a train heading towards 2046..."
.....................
Diana tilted her head, showing a perplexed expression, what was all this about?
She had indeed obtained Su Ming’s movements from the Hall of Justice’s main host, learning he had temporarily stayed at Harley’s apartment. Although she found it strange why Deathstroke did so, she knew he always had his reasons.
She flew directly from Washington to New York and then snuck in through the third-floor window.
At this time, Harley and Ivy were already asleep, snuggled together on the big bed in the living room. Even though Ivy didn’t need much sleep most of the time, perhaps exhausted from the day, her head rested quietly on Harley’s arm.
Harley, on the other hand, was sleeping very restlessly, sprawled out in a large star shape, occupying a vast area.
Not seeing Su Ming on the big bed, Diana felt a strange relief. Then she head towards the storage room, because there was the sound of someone’s breath.
Indeed, after pushing the door open, she saw Deathstroke lying on a shabby mattress like a corpse, with a ridiculous circus quilt over him.
But for some reason, seeing this scene made a wave of resentment surge in her heart, as if Deathstroke owed her something, she instantly exuded murderous intent.
She found that Deathstroke had keenly awakened, and entering the room was inappropriate since sneaking into a man’s room at midnight is hard to explain; but leaving was also not suitable, Deathstroke might know the secret of Totality, and time was precious now.
She bit her teeth impulsively and walked to the side of the mattress, waiting for him to speak first. But Deathstroke, for some reason, just played dead, leading to a standoff between the two.
Amazon never shies away from a confrontation!
Though unaware of the rules of the contest, nor the reason for it, it seemed that whoever moves first or speaks first loses!
Deathstroke’s posture clearly conserved effort, so Diana began exerting pressure with her gaze, and sure enough, sweat appeared on the pretending-to-sleep Deathstroke’s forehead.
He lost.
With Deathstroke’s intelligence, he can surely guess what she came to inquire about at midnight. She wasn’t wealthy enough, but was too shy to ask Deathstroke to help her for free, thus she intended for him to guess.
Sharpening her sword, repairing her Shield, was to let him see that even her weaponry was worn and couldn’t afford repairs, plain poverty.
But today, Deathstroke was inexplicably different, appearing much gloomier and constantly speaking in circles.
After uttering the train sentence, Diana finally realized they weren’t talking about the same thing!
She placed the Shield on the floor, reaching up to ruffle her long hair: "I came to ask about the matter of Totality."
"Huh? Just this?"
"Hmm?" Diana picked up the Shield, stood up, and patted the dust off her boots: "What did you think it was about?"
"Nothing... I thought you came to invite me to dinner together." Su Ming withdrew Godslayer, discreetly exhaling a breath of relief: "The flood’s receded, everyone’s mostly back to normal, doesn’t the Justice League plan to hold a celebration?"
Diana pulled her hood up, gesturing for Deathstroke to speak outside. There was Harley, that Little Madman outside, not suitable for some things to be overheard by her.
"Even if the cook is a Minotaur, eating at three in the morning is too late, how about flying together for a bit in the sky?"
