Chapter 319: The Fire Protection Suits
"How could she still be alive?"
Roxanna couldn’t even bring herself to look down into the crater because thick clouds of hot steam rose from below without stopping, making the surrounding water feel as though it were boiling.
"The leader of the Devourers has the power to create a bubble barrier," Orion explained. "That bubble is incredibly hard to break, even with heat that intense. That’s why I believe he used it to trap Her Majesty inside the crater."
[The name sounds ridiculous,] Roxanna almost laughed to herself, but her smile quickly faded. [I mean... that sounds terrifying!]
"But even if the fire can’t burn her, she must have suffered so much after being forced to stare into that crater for two whole years," Roxanna murmured. Her voice was soft, but everyone still heard her.
Azul, on the other hand, silently clenched his fists. Even though he had never been especially close to his mother, that didn’t mean he could calmly watch her trapped in such a cruel place.
"If we can’t break the bubble," Azul said firmly, "then we’ll take the bubble with us."
Orion looked at him with concern. "But, Your Highness... if we want to take the bubble, we’ll have to enter the crater first. I don’t think any of us can survive a temperature that high."
The beastkins could heal from injuries, but if their entire bodies were burned, their chances of surviving would be very small. They might turn to ashes before they even reached the Queen’s cage.
"The feather!" Roxanna suddenly exclaimed.
She quickly took the feather hanging from her waist and held it up for Azul to see. "Cyrus’s feather makes me resistant to fire! But I don’t think anyone else can use it besides me."
After all, Cyrus had personally given the feather to her, so Roxanna wasn’t sure whether it would also protect someone who hadn’t received it directly from him.
[You’re 100% right, Host!] the system said cheerfully. [The feather only works if the phoenix gives it to someone personally. In other words, you’re the only one who can resist the fire.]
"Yes, I’m the only one who can use the feather," Roxanna told her husbands. "That means I can go into the crater and help rescue your mother."
Azul and Zeir were about to object, but Roxanna continued thinking out loud. "Still... I don’t think pulling that cage out of such a hot crater is something one person can do. Can I really do it?" She slowly shook her head. "I don’t think so."
This body was much stronger than her old human body. However, the original Roxanna had rarely exercised or trained like a warrior, so her muscles still weren’t as strong as Zeir’s or even Azul’s.
[I really need to train my strength after this,] she thought. [But for now... is there anything I can buy from the system?]
[Of course there is, Host!]
[Ding! Ding!]
[Searching for items suitable for the current mission...]
[Ding!]
[Fire Protection Suit ×4]
[Effect: Protects the wearer from extreme heat and flames for one hour.
Price: 28,000 SP each.]
Roxanna frowned. [That’s pretty expensive. If I remember correctly, didn’t you only charge me 8,000 SP for the fire-resistant barrier around the Vixeria Settlement? Why does one protection suit cost 7,000 SP?]
[That’s because the fire-resistant barrier wasn’t made to protect living beings, Host.] the system explained. [The protection suit, on the other hand, is specially designed for living beings and guarantees 100% protection without letting any heat get through.]
[Wouldn’t you say that’s a good deal, Host?]
[When you put it that way... I guess it really is.] Roxanna admitted. [I’ll buy all four.]
She had more than enough Spirit Points anyway, so she didn’t need to worry too much about spending that amount.
[Ding! Ding!]
[Purchased 4× Protection Suits: 28,000 SP]
[Remaining Spirit Points (SP): 402,950]
"Your Highness, what’s wrong?" Orion waved his hand in front of Roxanna’s face after she had been standing there in silence for quite a while.
She jolted in surprise, only then realizing she had been standing there in silence for far too long. A moment later, she smiled. "I just found a way for all of us to rescue Her Majesty together."
Her husbands already knew what she meant, but the two Aquilian soldiers could only stare at her in confusion. To be honest, Roxanna didn’t look like someone who could make people immune to fire.
"I have protection suits!" Roxanna said with a bright smile. "As long as you wear them, you’ll be completely protected from the fire."
Before anyone could respond, she had already taken the protection suits out of the system’s inventory.
Instead of looking like normal suits, they looked more like oversized transparent sacks that were much too big for anyone to wear. Even Roxanna couldn’t help looking puzzled when she saw them.
[The protection suits will automatically adjust to the wearer’s body shape, Host!] the system quickly explained.
Roxanna immediately nodded in understanding before handing one suit to each of them.
"I know they look a little strange right now, but trust me. Just put them on first."
Orion and Tian exchanged uncertain glances before looking at Azul, silently asking whether they should really listen to her.
"You heard her," Azul said without hesitation. "Put those suits on now, before Mr. Kraken can no longer hold back the Devourers."
Without asking any more questions, Azul was the first to slip the transparent suit over his body. The moment the suit touched his skin, it began to shrink on its own.
Within seconds, the loose, oversized material wrapped perfectly around his body as if it had been made just for him. It remained completely transparent, almost invisible, with only a faint shimmer appearing whenever the light hit it.
"So it changes shape..." Azul murmured as he raised one arm and clenched his fist. The suit didn’t restrict his movements at all. In fact, it felt as though he wasn’t wearing anything.
