Chapter 493: Why Don’t We Three Share a Family Tree
"Gu Shuo, don’t walk so fast..."
"Gu Shuo..."
"Ptooey!"
"..."
Ye Qianning listened to the voices fading into the distance. The corner of her mouth twitched, and she sighed softly.
’Zhan Chi has never been properly tempered. He’s impetuous and hot-headed, easily provoked when handling matters. People like him are easy to lure into traps.’
’If he wants to learn business, he first needs to work on his temperament and patience.’
Once the two had left, Ye Qianning yawned. She was indeed exhausted. After a quick wash-up, she lay down on her bed and fell into a deep sleep.
「The next day.」
Zhan Yi and his wife had heard from Luo Wen the day before that the Crown Prince of Xi Yan and Prime Minister Gao were coming to visit. They had been so worried they hadn’t slept all night, and they rose at the crack of dawn to prepare. The concubines were also keeping a close eye on Xi Fengying, not letting her out of their sight.
After breakfast, the carriage from Xi Yan had just turned onto the street of the General’s estate when the carriage from Prime Minister Gao’s residence entered the same street from behind.
The carriage stopped at the entrance of the General’s estate, and Xiliu Yuan alighted.

"Crown Prince, what a coincidence." Prime Minister Gao strode over from behind.
Behind him, four attendants were carrying two large chests, causing passersby to steal a few extra glances.
Prime Minister Gao was notoriously stingy. The fact that he was having two large chests carried in was enough to show how seriously he was taking this formal apology.
"Prime Minister Gao," Xiliu Yuan called out coldly.
"Crown Prince, after you," Prime Minister Gao said with a smile, gesturing with his hand.
Xiliu Yuan walked up the steps.
The steward had been assigned to watch the main gate by Old Master Zhan since early that morning. Seeing the distinguished guests arrive, he immediately sent an attendant to report back.
"This way, distinguished guests," the steward said, stepping forward to greet them.
Xiliu Yuan stepped through the doors.
Prime Minister Gao followed him through the doors with his four attendants. Walking behind, he sized up the Shadow Guard beside Xiliu Yuan, a flicker of doubt in his heart.
’The Crown Prince of Xi Yan came to visit without bringing any gifts?’

’Is he really here to make amends?’
In the main hall, Old Master Zhan and his wife were startled to hear that the Crown Prince of Xi Yan had arrived, and they quickly rose to their feet.
"My lady, control your emotions." Old Master Zhan’s hand clenched inside his sleeve as he turned and reminded her.
"Yes."
"Don’t be nervous. No matter how noble he is, he is still a guest, and we are the hosts."
"Yes."
Madame Zhan calmed her nerves. She absolutely could not show any sign of panic in front of outsiders.
Xiliu Yuan’s figure appeared at the doorway. Zhan Yi and his wife went out to welcome him.
"Crown Prince, your visit truly brings honor to our humble home." Zhan Yi smiled and bowed.
Madame Zhan curtsied slightly.
"Old Master Zhan, Madame Zhan, there is no need for such formalities," Xiliu Yuan said faintly.
"This way, Crown Prince."

Xiliu Yuan nodded and walked into the main hall.
"I heard Old Master Zhan is staying at the General’s estate. To see you both here today is quite a surprise to me." Prime Minister Gao said with a smile, speaking with the practiced pleasantries of officialdom.
Zhan Yi looked back. "The Zhan family and the Xiang family are as close as one family. What is there to be surprised about?"
"But everyone saw your past disagreements," Prime Minister Gao said with a chuckle.
"Whether we get along or not is none of Prime Minister Gao’s business. It would be best for the Prime Minister to speak less." Zhan Yi held a grudge.
Prime Minister Gao wasn’t angered by the sarcastic remark. He entered the main hall and sat down beside Xiliu Yuan.
Zhan Yi and his wife naturally took the hosts’ seats, which made Prime Minister Gao raise an eyebrow. ’Have relations between the Zhan family and Xiang Minghou really become this good?’
"Pangtuan told us everything that happened yesterday when they returned. It was all Madame Gao’s fault. The Crown Prince was merely unobservant for a moment. It’s no big deal; the Crown Prince needn’t take it to heart." Zhan Yi was the first to speak.
’Unobservant?’
’He really dares to say that.’
But his cheerful attitude made it impossible for anyone to find fault.
Prime Minister Gao’s expression stiffened. Zhan Yi clearly had no regard for the Gao family whatsoever.
