Chapter 482: The Nanyuan Aquatic Products Theme 2
After spending some time with him, she had come to see some of his good qualities.
"I want to do something too. I don’t want you to look down on me," Zhan Chi said in a low voice. Even though she didn’t acknowledge him, she was still his daughter. No father wanted to be despised by his own child.
Ye Qianning stared at his bowed head, her expression shifting slightly.
It had nothing to do with blood, and yet, blood was a strange thing. When she slept near him, she found herself, against her will, falling into a deeper sleep than usual.
The body only enters a deep sleep when it’s completely relaxed.
She couldn’t deny her own body’s reaction.
"You know a lot about porcelain," she said softly after a long pause.
Zhan Chi looked up slightly.
"I heard you like to collect porcelain and other antiques."
"I do." Zhan Chi nodded.
"You can tell if they’re real or fake, their age, and their origin with just a glance. Even Gu Shuo can’t do that." ’To turn a hobby into that level of expertise is a real skill in itself.’
Surprise flashed in Zhan Chi’s eyes. "How do you know that?"
"I also know that you’ve sourced many of those antiques from black markets all over. If you sold them today, you could make a fortune."
A classic case of scoring hidden treasures.
Zhan Chi’s surprise turned to delight. "You... you know that much about me?"
’The little girl knows me like the back of her hand. Has she been secretly looking into me for a while now? All in all, my daughter really does care about me!’
Ye Qianning didn’t respond. ’Still,’ she thought, ’if Zhan Chi were to open an antique shop, he’d surely make a killing.’
’It’s not like scoring those finds is easy; it takes a good deal of luck, too.’
"Didn’t you want to transport seafood from Nanyuan? I’ll go make the arrangements tomorrow." Zhan Chi’s gloomy mood vanished. Realizing the girl cared about him made him so happy that nothing else mattered.
"Not just yet," Ye Qianning said.
"Hmm? It’s early spring now, so it’s still a bit cold in Nanyuan. But by the time our people get there, the frost will have passed, and transport won’t be an issue. The round trip from Beili to Nanyuan takes a few months. If we delay until winter, travel will become difficult."
"We’ll send the trade caravan after Gu Shuo signs the agreement with Nanyuan." ’Moving too early would make Nanyuan feel that Beili is being presumptuous.’
’No ruler likes a partner who acts overly eager, as if success is already guaranteed.’
’Besides, acting too soon will make them think they hold all the cards and drive up the price.’
’That’s just how business works. Sometimes, with goods that won’t sell at all, the moment you show interest, the sellers get cocky and feel they have the leverage to hike the price.’
Zhan Chi thought for a moment and understood her reasoning.
"Alright, we won’t rush then. I’ll go talk to Gu Shuo." With that, he stood up.
Ye Qianning was confused. "What are you going to talk to him about?"
"A deal as big as monopolizing trade with Nanyuan is too much for Gu Shuo alone. Besides, his financial resources won’t hold out for long. I’m investing in this venture." After saying his piece, Zhan Chi turned, lifted the carriage curtain, and jumped out before Ye Qianning could respond.
Ye Qianning scrambled up, pushing aside the window curtain to look behind them.
Zhan Chi landed steadily on the side of the road. When he saw her head poke out, he grinned and waved.
Ye Qianning stared at his retreating figure. His smile was as warm as the early spring sun. Bathed in the daylight, it was as if he were a being sculpted from light itself.
Suddenly, a spring breeze swept past, brushing against her cheeks and sending strands of her hair dancing freely.
It felt as if that breeze had blown straight into her heart, causing a gentle, stirring flutter...
In just two short months, Zhan Chi had changed so much. And it seemed she had, too...
The people around her all seemed to be changing.
And she was gradually starting to enjoy this feeling... of being surrounded and cared for by family.
